Bobby & Sue Bates
I am trying to locate a branch of our family who apparently left the
immediate area of the rest of the clan. Stephen Vanrennsaeler Bates and
his wife Julia Ann (Call) had been residents of Jackson Co. prior to 1836
when they purchased land in Branch Co. I don't believe that they were
there very long, because except for their daughter marrying a second
cousin, there is no evidence of the rest of the family in the area. In
1872 Stephen is mentioned in connection with being one of the heirs of his
deceased father. He died in 1892, so I guess the time frame that I am
interested in would be prior to 1836 (he was b. 1814) and between 1872-92.
I need to find out where this group disappeared to!!

I am trying to find information about Albert Ambrose Smell. He is my mother's
father
and she never heard from him after about 1926. His mother died in 1918 in
Brooklyn Mich. and his father died 1928 in Muncie, Indiana. However I
understand that when his father died the family estate was settled by a banker
in Brooklyn, Mich. and I wondered if Albert was notified from that area or
perhaps went back to the family home at all. Mother is now 92 yrs. old and
would like to know where her father died and when. I wondered if posting the
name Smell might get some information for us.

Sawyer and went West ultimately settling in California. Judson is
believed to have drowned in Jepp Lake (Calhoun Co.?) about 1873 around
