Looking for documentation about Jemima HATT (born ca 1842), who married John F. JACKSON (born 1842 England), of Jackson Co., MI 1861-1864. In 1870 census, they lived in Napoleon Twp., Jackson Co (pg 319, 161/164) with children, Clara, 6; Elizabeth, 3; George, 1. Jemima was also enumerated in 1870 census in home of her brother, Nathan HATT of Waterloo Twp. (231/231) with a 9 month old son, George JACKSON. In 1880, while living as housekeeper of Noah KEELER family of Liberty Twp., Jackson Co. (102107), Jemima had a 3 year old daughter, Anna B. No further information found about her after 1880. Also in 1880 census, John F. JACKSON is enumerated in Jonesville, Hillsdale Co., MI, with wife Lucy and two stepchildren, also a daughter, Lettie or Lillie JACKSON, 6. Trying to sort out family of Levi B. HATT (born ca 1812, died before 1870), son of James Hatt & Elizabeth Mead, pioneers of Waterloo Twp., Jackson Co., MI. DeLand's History of Jackson Co., MI, says Levi married Mary and they settled in Napoleon Twp. They had 5 children, Cinderella, Angeline, Elizabeth, Levi, and one whose name is unknown. The 1850 Michigan Mortality Census shows a Levi Hatt, 38, farmer, who drowned in June. Mary Hatt appeared with children Charlotte, 10, Levi, 4, & Sarah, 3, in Leoni Twp. in 1850 census. Their daughter, Angeline, 12, lived with aunt/uncle, Jeremiah & Hannah (Hatt) Smith in Waterloo in 1850 census. However, the 1860 census shows a Levi Hatt, 44, with wife Amelia and children, Eliza, 12; Orson, 10; Abigail, 8; Lenora, 6; Addison, 4; Nathan, 2. Are these two Levi Hatts related? Did our Levi die in 1849? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Debra Eddy

My 3rd great-grandparents, James HATT and Elizabeth MEAD, were first landowners of Waterloo, Jackson Co., MI. It is believed that Elizabeth died before 1850. James was enumerated in the 1850 census of Scio Twp., Sylvan Twp., with a wife, Sarah. James died 3 Dec 1855 in Saline, Washtenaw Co., and in his probate file. His widow refused to relinquish her dower rights (which seems to indicate she was not the mother of his children) and her travel expenses to Buffalo were paid by the estate. Buried in Griswold Cem., Hartland, Livingston Co., MI, next to her husband, Simeon KITTLE, is Sarah SALMON (died 1 Aug 1864) widow of James HATT. Since no marriage record has been found for James and Sarah, it has been speculated that Elizabeth and Sarah were one and the same person. Can anyone prove or disprove this? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
