DAVISON obituary for Maggie Davison on Sunday, November 12, 1911

Death of an Estimable Lady.

Mrs. David Davison died at the family home in Grant Township, Sunday, November 12, 1911, after several months of patient suffering, aged 43 years, 7 months, and 28 days.

Maggie Watson was born in County Bruce, Province of Ontario, Canada, and was united in marriage to David Davison December 23, 1885. Of that union seven children were born, six of whom, with the bereaved husband, are left to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and loving mother. The surviving children are Lorne, Harcourt, Annie, Orville, Irene, and Albert. The family have been residents of this county for about fifteen years, and Mrs. Davison was universally respected and beloved by a large circle of acquaintances, who sincerely mourn her death.

The funeral was held from the Hemlock road Baptist church, Wednesday afternoon; Rev. G. W. Gilroy, of AuGres, officiating. A large concourse of sorrowing friends followed the remains. to the last resting place in the Tawas Cemetery.

DIED--Nov. 12, 1911, Margaret Watson Davison, aged 43 years, seven months, and 28 days. Margaret Watson was born in the county of Bruce, Ontario, where she lived to young womanhood and was united in marriage with David Davison of the same place, on Dec. 23, 1885. In the year 1892 Mr. and Mrs. Davison removed to the states, to try their fortunes in the then wilds of Northern Michigan, locating at Prescott, afterward removing to Tawas township, and thence to Grant, where they have been prominent citizens for several years. To this union were born seven children, six of whom are living: Lorin, aged 24; Hartcourt, 21; Annie, 17; Orville, 14; Mabel, 6; and Albert 4 years, who, with the husband, are left to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held from the Hemlock Road church. Rev. G.W. Gilroy, of the M. E. church of AuGres, spoke consoling words to the bereaved relatives and a large concourse of sorrowing friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Tawas City cemetery, beside those the little one who was called before. And is this all? Ah, no. The Christian deeds and helpful advice of a loving mother will live on and on with those who are left behind.

DOREY obituary for Harry Dorey on Saturday, November 17, 1917

East Tawas Gazette

Harry Dorey of Wilber township died early Monday morning at the home of his sister-in-law, Miss Edna Otis, in this city. Death was due to anaemia and an affection of the spine, and terminated an illness that extended over a year. He was taken to Chicago six weeks ago for treatment, but recovery was impossible, and he was brought home a week ago.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. Howarth and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery.

The deceased was born June 25, 1862, in Phillipsburg, PA. The family moved west to Wisconsin in 1870, setteling at Dallas, Barron county.

October 15, 1903, Mr. Dorey was married to Miss Clara Otis at Duluth Minn., and they made their home at Scanlon, Minn. In the fall of 1907 they came to Michigan and took up their residence in Wilber township, this country. To the union four children were born. Lauea, Clarence, and Francis and Henry little twin sons. The widow and children survive, also two sisters and one borther. Mrs. Stewart Shannon, Mrs. Henry Drummer and Owen Dorey, all of Chicago. Relatives and friends from out of town who were here to attend the funeral were Mrs. Drummer and Mr. Dorey, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Johnson of Chaumont, N.Y. (uncle and aunt to Mrs. Dorey) and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Latter of Reno Township.

Mr. Dorey lived a life of quiet and faithful service to his family and unremitting industry. His interests and affections centered in his home and family and daily pursuits. He was a genial man of likeable nature, and his passing will be a genuine sorrow to many friends.

DAVISON obituary for Matthew Lorne Davison on Saturday, January 7, 1922

Matthew Lorne Davison died on Thursday, January 7th, at his home in Grant township after an illness of four years. He contracted a severe case of influenza in 1918 from which he never recovered. Tuberculosis was the cause of death.

The funeral services were held at the Hemlock Road church on Sunday, January 10th.  Rev. S. S. Cross of St. Charles officiated, with burial rites by the L. O. L. of which he had been a member for a number of years. Interment was made in the Tawas City cemetery [Memory Gardens].

Matthew Lorne Davison was born December 12th, 1886, in the county of Bruce, Ontario, Canada. He was the oldest son of Judge David Davison of this city. He came to Michigan April 29, 1893, with his parents and the family settled on the Hemlock road in 1895. March 4th, 1913 he was united in marriage to Olive Smith.

The surviving relatives are Mrs. Olive Davison, the widow, one daughter, Dorothy Margaret, his father, Judge David Davison of Tawas City, three brothers, James H. Davison and Orvill Davison of Flint, and William A. Davison of Tawas City, and two sisters, Mrs. George Smith and Mabel Irene Davison of Tawas City.

Mr. Davison was well liked by his neighbors and had many friends throughout the county who are deeply grieved at his death.

BUCK obituary for Louisa Buck on Sunday, January 15, 1922

Mrs. Isaac Buck died at her home near Hale on Sunday, Jan. 15, 1922, aged 78 years, 10 months and 23 days. Mrs. Buck was stricken with paralysis two years ago last September and since that time had been unable to walk. Her last illness was of short duration. She was taken sick Wednesday and passed peacefully away Sunday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, sweetly trusting in a just God and in a loving Heavenly Father.

Louisa Rosetta Barber was born at McGee's corners. New York, Feb 23, 1843, and came to Genesee County Michigan with her parents when 8 years old. She was married to Isaac Buck of Linden, Genesee County on Nov. 7, 1861 and they resided there until they came to losco County in 1885.

She was baptized into the Baptist Church at Linden when she was 14 years old and united with the Baptist church of Plainfield when it was organized in 1889, of which she has always been a consistent member. Until disease made it impossible she was a very active in all departments of the church work.

Mrs. Buck was the mother of three children, Henry. Frank and Ida. Henry, having died ten years ago, the other two children, Frank and Ida are left to mourn her loss, together with one sister, Mrs. G.W. Teed, fourteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren, besides a host of friends will greatly miss her.

She was buried Wednesday from the Hale Baptist church, Rev Joshua Roberts officiating. Burial was made in the Plainfield cemetery. The beautiful flowers, the large number of sorrowing friends all testified to the esteem in which she was held in the neighborhood. Relatives present from a distance were: Mrs. Edgar Peterson and little daughter, Lucille of Clare Mich., and Mrs. H. Fisher of Ogemaw County.

ULMAN obituary for Richard Ulman on Friday, January 11, 1924

Richard Ulman, 84 years of age, died Tuesday, January 1, 1924, at his home on the town line. He had been suffering for some time from the flu.

Mr. Ulman was born July 1, 1839 at Niagara, Canada. At 22 years of age, he married Mary Ann Webb. They had nine children: William, Mrs. Samuel Proper, Walter, Joseph, Frederick, Mrs. Levi Frank, Mrs. Harrison Frank, David and Edward. All were present at the funeral, the six sons acting as pall bearers.

He had three surviving brothers: Joseph, age 82, Clinton, age 77, and Nelson, age 71. He has 58 grandchildren, 44 of whom are living, and 20 great grand-children.

Mr. Ulman came to Iosco county 46 years ago last October, making the trip in a covered wagon.

He became a member of the L. D. S. church in 1884 and in the same year was ordained to the Aaronic priesthood. He was one of the first to take his Bible and try to do good on the Townline.

The funeral was Friday, January 4, 1924, Elder M. A. Sommefield officiating, assisted by Elder Geo. A. Pringle. The remains were laid to rest in the Tawas City Cemetery.

ULMAN obituary for Mary Ann Ulman on Friday, May 16, 1924

Mary Ann Ulman, age 74, passed away Monday, May 8th, 1924 at her home on the Townline after a 12 day illness.

Mrs. Ulman was born November 13, 1848 in Canada. She was united in marriage to Richard Ulman on November 26, 1866. They had 9 children. William, Mrs. Samuel Proper, Walter, Joseph, Fredrick, Mrs. Levi Frank, Mrs. Harrison Frank, David and Richard. They all were present at the funeral except Mrs. Samuel Proper. The six sons acted as pall bearers. Mrs. Ulman has three brothers and one sister that survive her. George, Arthur and Ephram Webb and one sister in California. She has 58 grandchildren, 44 of whom are living, and 20 great grand children.

The funeral was held Sunday, May 11th, 1924. Elder M. A. Sommerfield, officiating. Burial in the Tawas City Cemetery.

ZIMMETH obituary for August Zimmeth on Friday, July 17, 1925

August Zimmeth of East Tawas died Friday, Jul 10, cause of death being due to old age and asthma. He was 86 years old at the time of death.

August Zimmeth was born at Lancaster, NY, and has been a resident in Iosco County for 60 years. Mr and Mrs Zimmeth had eleven children, but only five survive him. They are Joseph Zimmeth, Mrs G Whiteside of Grand Rapids, Mrs S Whiteside of Detroit and Mrs John Ochenfeld of Detroit, besides his aged wife. The funeral services were held on Monday from St Joseph Church, Rev E A Brogger officiated, and the remains were laid to rest in the St Joseph Cemetery.

HILL obituary for Henry Richard Hill on Monday, June 21, 1926

Efforts were being made here today to communicate with the relatives of a man believed to be Harry (Henry) Hill, 86 years old, of Detroit, who was found dead in a ditch at Home Avenue and North Saginaw Street.

The coroner decided death was due to natural causes and that no inquest would be necessary.

A record card from the Detroit Receiving Hospital was found in the man's clothing. Local authorities communicated with the Detroit hospital attaches and an address on Clay avenue in Detroit was found in the Detroit hospital records of the man's case. It was later learned that there was no such number as the Clay Avenue Address.

(Tawas Newspaper) Henry Hill, another of the old residents of the township, died in Flint one day this week and the body was brought here for burial. Accompanying it were Mrs. Hill and sons, Vernon, Albert, Herbert and Harold, and daughters, Alice and Elsie, all of Flint.

Henry Richard Hill was born in Poland, March 15, 1843. He was married October 17, 1893, to Bertha Holzheuer. Besides his wife he leaves seven children and two grandchildren, all of Flint. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, conducted by Rev. John J. Strike. Burial was made in the Wilber Cemetery.
