CLESOTT obituary for Christian Clesott on Wednesday, July 22, 1886

Died - CLESOTT - In this village, on the night of Tuesday, July 20, 1886, Christian Clesott, aged 78 years.

Mr. Clesott was born in Germany in the year 1808, and came to America in his 45th year, locating in Buffalo, N. Y. He stayed there but a short time, when he went to Tonawanda, N. Y. where he lived until 1869, when he moved to East Tawas. Here he made his home until death removed him from earth.

He leaves a wife, and two children -- John Clesott and Mrs. Gus. Zimmedt, to mourn his loss. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. His death was caused by gradual decay, having been feeble for the past three years. The funeral was held this Thursday p.m., and the remains were interred in the East Tawas cemetery.

CLEASOTT obituary for Minnie Cleasott on Monday, May 12, 1894

Mrs. Minnie Cleasott, the aged and invalid mother of John Cleasott, died at the home in this village on Sunday last, at the age of 72 years. About 11 years ago, the deceased had a stroke of paralysis, which left her helpless and a cripple the remainder of her life. Old age was the immediate cause of death. She was born in Germany, and had lived in East Tawas about 22 years.

The funeral took place from the house and was conducted by Rev. A. C. Kay.

Under The Wheels

A shocking fatality occurred on the D&M RR Saturday afternoon last. The accomodation train from the Rose City division had arrived in Tawas City, and was switching some logs for the Union Cooperage Co. on the old Hale dock. The brakeman was Florance Micho of this city. He had got off the train to turn the switch, and fell in a swoon or faint in front of the loaded cars, and five of these passed over his body. He was horrible mangled, and killed instantly. The unfortunate man had been employed as a brakeman on this train for some time, but he was subject to spells of this kind, and on several previous occassions we understand, had barely escaped death; and realizing the hazardous position to one thus afflicted, he concluded to quit the work, a day or two more would have terminated his labor in this capacity.

The remains were brought to the home in this city, where the wife and five children had learned of the awful calamity, and were frantic with grief.

Ther was no coroner's inquest; the facts of the case being too well authenticated to demand it.

The funeral service, a very short one, was conducted at the house, and on Wednesday the remains were taken to Harrisville for interment.

The deceased was a hard working and industrious man, a kind husband, and an indulgent father. He was a member of the K.O.T.M. in which he held a policy of insurance for $2,000. His age was about 38 years.

TOTTEN obituary for Laura Totten on Thursday, December 28, 1899

Mrs. Laura Totten, daughter of Mrs. Anthony Ocha of Wilber and wife fo George Totten, died of consumption at her Mother's home in Wilbur on Monday last. The Funeral Services were held from the Wilbur Church yesterday and the remains were buried in the churchyard nearby. The age of  the deceased was 38 years.

BURCH obituary for Nathaniel Burch on Friday, December 5, 1902

Tawas Herald - Page 5 Column 3

Nathaniel Burch, a pioneer resident of East Tawas, died last Saturday. He was 65 years of age and leaves a wife and ten children. The funeral was held Monday, from the Baptist church in this city, Rev. Thompson officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Tawas City cemetary. The funeral was under the auspices of the I.O.F., of which he was a member.

OCHA obituary for Mrs. Ocha on Saturday, June 4, 1904

The following item appeared in the last issue of the Grand Marais Herald, and the person referred to formerly resided in this county, and will remembered by many friends, particularly in Wilbur Township. "Just as we go to press, we learned of the death of Mrs. Ocha, Mother to Captain Ocha of the Two Hearted Lifesaving Station, which occurred suddenly at the home of the latter Thursday night. The remains will be brought here for burial. Captain Ocha has the sympathy of his many Grand Marais friends in his hour of sorrow."

YOUNGS obituary for Christine Fifer Youngs on Saturday, February 27, 1909

Our community was shocked last Saturday evening by the announcement the Mrs. William E. Youngs had been found dead on the street. Mrs. Youngs started from the home of her son Edgar to go to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Grise, a distance of about five blocks. When near the home of F. W. Schlecte she suffered an attack of heart failure and fell to the sidewalk where she was found a few minutes later and carried to James Hamilton's store, but died before medical aid could be secured.

Christine Elizabeth Fifer (Youngs) was born Oct. 16, 1859 at Lennox Basin, Oneida County, N.Y. (now Madison Co.) She came to Michigan with her parents when 16 years of age, when the family located on a homestead in Tawas township. She was united in marriage to William Youngs at Lapeer, about 40 years ago. They resided in Lapeer until about 25 years ago when they moved to the family home, on Meadow Road in Tawas township, where she resided until her death on Feb. 27, 1909, at the age of 58 years, four months and nine days.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Will of Cedar, Wis., and Edgar and George of this place, and four daughters, Mrs. Florence Blust, Mrs. Lon Cox, and Mrs. Wilfred Grise, of this place, and Mrs. William Lybarger of Woodmond, Okla., and three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Smeader of Kinde, Mich., Mrs Herman Wurstenburg of New Baltimore, Mich., and Mrs. Anna Miller [my great-grandmother] of Shelby, Ohio. There are also fourteen grandchildren.

The deceased was a member of the M.E. Church of this city for many years, was a faithful Christian, a kind and loving wife and mother and a true friend. The funeral was held from the M.E. Church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. G.W. Gilroy, officiating, and was attended b a large concourse of sorrowing friends.

ECKER obituary for Mary Ecker on Friday, October 22, 1909

Tawas Newspaper

Mrs. Allen Ecker died Friday last and the funeral was held Monday, Rev. J. H. Davis officiating. Mary Gerow was born at Carsonville, August 23, 1855, and was married to Jeriiimiah Van Meer, October 27, 1871. She was the mother of thirteen children, eight of whom survive her. After the death of her first husband she was married to Mr. Edker in 1907.

Mrs. Charles Peterson, of Chicago, died at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Deyo, of Ellake, Tuesday, December 20, 1910. The funeral was held at the home last Sunday, Rev. J.B. Brown, officiating. The sympathy of all is extended to the bereaved young husband and parents.
