John M. Mazure ok checked against huron obits

Mr. John M. Mazure, 61, of Ubly passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe of an apparent heart attack.  John was born on April 15, 1947 in Bad Axe.  Son of the late John R. and Emma (Maurer) Mazure.  He married his loving wife, Joyce Taylor, on December 15, 1979 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly.  John was a 1966 graduate of Ubly High School.  He farmed with his family until 1986.  He worked for Halfway Siding and Halfway Tavern, where he achieved bartender of the year.  John has worked for ADM Edible Bean Specialties, Inc. (Wruble Elevator) since 1986 and for Crop Production Services part-time each spring.  He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners, where he served on the parish council and was an usher.  He enjoyed baseball, pool, bowling, euchre, pinochle - cards of all kinds, hunting, golfing and dancing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. His laugh was contagious.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Mazure of Ubly; six children, Cassandra Mazure and her fiancé, Michael Swenson, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christina Mazure of Mount Pleasant, Michael Mazure of Ubly, Theresa Mazure and special friend, Ken Baynton, of Mount Pleasant, James Mazure of Mount Pleasant and Danielle Mazure at home; one granddaughter, Emma Rose Baynton; one sister, Patricia Geiger and her husband, Raymond, of Bad Axe; six brothers, Edward Mazure and his wife, Betty, of New Baltimore, Eugene Mazure and his wife, Elaine, of Ubly, Robert Mazure and his wife, Phyllis, of Ubly, Fred Mazure and his wife, Mary Ann, of Bad Axe, Donald Mazure of Ubly, Richard Mazure and his wife, Alicia, of Ubly; mother-in-law, Theresa Taylor of Ubly; brothers-in-law, Robert Taylor and his wife, Kathleen, of Fort Gratiot, George Taylor and his wife, Tammy, of Bad Axe, Phillip Taylor and his wife, Debbie, of Bad Axe, Jeff Taylor and his special friend, Beth Vincent, of Ubly; sisters-in-law, Diane Weltin and her husband, Phillip, of Crestview, Florida, Kathy Stomack and her husband, Randy, of Minden City, Barbara Taylor of Chicago, Diana Taylor of Bad Axe; and many nieces and nephews.  John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Emma Mazure; two brothers-in-law, David and James Taylor; and sister-in-law, Elaine Mazure.

 

Funeral Mass for John Mazure will be at noon on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Smith Corners. The Rev. Robert Howe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 11 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at noon Tuesday. There will be a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family discretionary fund.

 

 

Melvin M. Mazure

May 3, 1925 – October 18, 2007

Mr. Melvin Martin Mazure, 82, of Marysville, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at home after a lengthy illness.   He was born May 3, 1925, in Harbor Beach, to the late Frank and Alice Mazure. He married Virginia A. Dropeske on August 21, 1948 in Helena.   Mr. Mazure co-owned Pete's Camping Service after retiring from St. Clair Rubber Company. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II on the island of Iwo Jima. He was a life member of American Legion Marysville Post #449, a life member of Marysville VFW Post #2340, a member of the Marysville Special Police and a member of the Ushers Club at St. Christopher Catholic Church.   Melvin was such a gift to his family and friends and they will joyously carry him in their hearts. He was always a gentle man and his gentle ways will be his legacy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; two sons, Randal Lee (Mary Rose) Mazure of North Liberty, Iowa, and Joel Dee Mazure of Antioch, Illinois; three daughters, Gail Marie (Ian) Farquhar of Port Huron, Marybeth (Steve) Schneider of Marysville and Saundra Kaye (Steve) Warsinske of Marysville; three sisters, Gertrude Wolschleger and Rose Marie (Gordon) Cooper, of Harbor Beach, and Lorraine (Harry) Ganze of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Raymond Mazure and James (Carol) Mazure, both of Harbor Beach; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2007 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Arthur Baranowski will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Lucy Mazure

February 9, 1899 – February 23, 2006

Miss Lucy Mazure, 107, of the Parisville area passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006 at her residence after a short illness.  Lucy was born on February 9, 1899 in Paris Township to the late Rufus and Martha (Skrzypinski) Mazure.  She never married.  Lucy attended a country school.  She worked on the family farm.  She was a lifelong member of St.  Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville.  She loved gardening, cooking for family and visiting with friends. 

 

She is survived by 13 nieces and nephews, Jerome Mazure, Yvonne Kula, Loretta Boggia, Dolores Roberts, Margaret Schamborn, Adeline Ruby, Archie Wrubel, Alice Wrubel, Virgil Mazure, LaVern Mazure, Diane Leppek, Joyce Lamke, Willard Mazure; and many more great- and great-great nieces and nephews. 

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m.  Monday, February  27, 2006 at St.  Mary’s Catholic Church in Parisville.  The Rev.  Andrzej Boroch, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Barbara M. (Booms) Mazure

June 23, 1933 – August 20, 2005

Barbara M. Mazure, 72, of Harbor Beach, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2005, in her home following a courageous battle from cancer.   She had hospice care and her family by her side.  She was born on June 23, 1933 in Harbor Beach to the late Clarence and Laura (Scholtz) Booms.   Barb and Ray Mazure were united in marriage on February 20, 1954 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena.   She was an active member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. Her involvement included serving as a religious education teacher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and participating in the scripture group. Barb also served as recovery group leader for Recovery, Inc.   

Barb is survived by her husband, Ray, after a beautiful marriage of 51 years; six children, Jeffrey Mazure and his wife, Mary Lee (Mixter), of Traverse City, Lori Romzek and her husband, James, of Harbor Beach, Michael Mazure and his wife, Dianne (Balk), of Jenison, Morris "Jay" Mazure, of Gardnerville, Nevada, and his fiancé Mary Legaspina, of Tagudin, Philippines, Ellen Rapson and her husband, David, of Traverse City, Brenda Levaine and her husband, John, of Kinde; and 19 grandchildren; five brothers, James Booms, Robert Booms, Gene Booms and his wife, Emily, all of Harbor Beach, Albert Booms and his wife, Nenita, of Georgia, and Warren Booms and his wife, Anna, of Saginaw; five sisters, Marilyn Essenmacher and her husband, Lloyd, Charlotte Kranz and her husband, Lawrence, Matilda Messing and her husband, Dan, Clarice Siemen and her husband, Ron, all of Harbor Beach, Ramona Bell, of Texas; and sister-in-law, Delphine Booms, of Harbor Beach.   She was preceded by her father, Clarence Booms; her mother, Laura Booms; brothers, Kenneth and Stephen; sister, Judy; brother-in-laws, Robert Talaski and Mack Bell; and sister-in-laws, Shirley Booms and Mary Louise Booms.   

Funeral services will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2005, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. The Rev. T.J. Flemming, pastor, will preside. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Emma Cecelia (Maurer) Mazure

July 23, 1917 – October 18, 2004

Mrs. Emma Cecilia Mazure, 87, of Smith Corners, passed away Monday night, October 18, 2004, at Courtney Manor of Bad Axe.   Emma was born July 23, 1917 in Ubly to the late John and Emma (Heilig) Maurer. She was united in marriage to John R. Mazure on October 6, 1937 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1986.   Emma resided in Paris Township all her life.  She was a graduate of a country school.  She was employed as a waitress at the Huron Inn and as a meat packer at Maurer Meat Processors.  She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners and was a member and former president of the Most Holy Trinity Altar Society.  She also sang in the choir, did sacristy work and flower arranging for the church.  She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608 and the League of Catholic Women.  Emma loved her animals, especially her kittens.  She also loved playing cards, cooking, baking, flowers, and gardening.  

 

Emma is survived by her children, Edward Mazure and his wife, Betty, of Tennessee, Eugene Mazure and his wife, Elaine, of Ubly, Robert Mazure and his wife, Phyllis, of Ubly, Fred Mazure and his wife, Mary Ann, of Bad Axe, Donald Mazure, of Ubly, Richard Mazure and his wife, Alicia, of Ubly, Patricia Geiger and her husband, Raymond, of Bad Axe, John Mazure and his wife, Joyce, of Ubly; 29 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Maurer and his wife, Joan, of Ubly, Fred Maurer and his wife, Grace, of Ubly; two sisters-in-law, Betty Maurer, of Ubly, Margaret Maurer, of Harbor Beach.   Emma was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Elaine (Wehner) Mazure; one grandson, Jeffrey Mazure; five brothers, Raymond, Edward, Anthony, Neil, and Elmer Maurer; three sisters, Kate True, Helen Oberski, and Clara Polk.  

 

A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2004, at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Smith Corners. The Rev. James Carlson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Albert J. Mazure

June 16, 1916 – September 28, 2001

Mr. Albert J. Mazure, 85, of Bad Axe died Friday morning, September 28, 2001 at his residence under hospice care after an extended illness.  He was born June 16, 1916 in Bad Axe, son of the late August and Anna (Richard) Mazure. He married Judy Collings on October 25, 1975 at Sacred Heart Parish of Bad Axe.  He was a graduate of Bad Axe High School.  He farmed until 1995. He was the former treasurer and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #1546 of Bad Axe and a Third Degree Member.  He was a member of the Farm Bureau.  He enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing.  He was a very active worker at the K of C bingos and fish frys. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Bad Axe; two sons, Michael of Belleville and Joshua at home; two daughters, Jody and Rosalie at home; many brother and sister-in-laws; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by three sisters, Theresa Mazure, Eleanor Thiel, and Agnes Maedel, and three brothers, Henry, John, and Joseph Mazure. 

 

Funeral mass will be Monday, October 1, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson. The Rev. John Weis, pastor, of St. Joseph will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

 

 

 

Matthew E. Mazure

February 1, 1907 – April 11, 2001

Mr. Matthew E. Mazure, 94, of Ubly died on Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe.  He was born on February 1, 1907, in Ubly, son of the late Rufus and Martha (Skrzyanski) Mazure.  He married Constance Zurek on October 13, 1934, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville.  She preceded him in death on February 10, 2000.  He attended McMillan Country School.  He farmed and worked at the Bad Axe grain elevator for many years, retiring in 1965.  He was a bartender in Ubly for many years, a security guard at Hamill Industries and a caretaker at Sheldon Campground.  Mr. Mazure was a lifelong parishioner at St. Mary's Church in Parisville.  He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. 

 

He is survived by three sons, Virgil Mazure and his wife, Nancy, of Bad Axe, Willard Mazure and his wife, Louise, of Livonia and LaVern Mazure and his wife, Judy, of Hale; two daughters, Diane Leppek and her husband, Ronald, of Bad Axe and Joyce Lamke and her husband, Myron, of Ubly; 13 grandchildren, Lisa Polega and her husband, Martin, of Bad Axe, Rodney Mazure and his wife, Lori, of Cass City, Erin Mazure of Bad Axe, Willard Mazure and his wife, Linda, of Jackson, Kevin Mazure and his wife, Cindy, of Westland, Radene Kumaus and her husband, Mark, of Ubly, Rhonda Leppek of Ubly, Rene Kluger and her husband, Keith, of Bad Axe, Ryan Leppek and his wife, Janet, of Bad Axe, Kristy Hallock of Kinde, Elliot Lamke of Ubly, Michele Olechnowicz and her husband, Scott, of South Lyon, Matthew H. Mazure of Milford; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy Mazure of Minden City; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha Gwisdalla and Nettie Schumacher; one brother, Henry Mazure. 

 

Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2001, at St. Mary Catholic Church in

Parisville. The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Catholic Cemetery in Ubly. There will be a parish wake service at 8 p.m. tonight at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  Visitation is from 12:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

 

 

 

Frank J. Mazure

September 6, 1899 – January 11, 2000

Frank J.  Mazure, 100, of Harbor Beach passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2000, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following an extended illness.   

Frank is survived by six children and their spouses: Gertrude Wolschleger and her husband, Leonard, of Harbor Beach; Melvin Mazure and his wife, Virginia (Dropeske), of Marysville; Rose Marie Cooper and her husband, Gordon, of Harbor Beach; Raymond Mazure and his wife, Barbara (Booms), of Harbor Beach; Lorraine Ganse and her husband, Harry, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and James Mazure and his wife, Carol (Geiger), of Harbor Beach; 34 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.   

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:30 a.m.  Thursday, January 13, 2000, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, Harbor Beach, with the Rev.  Edward Konieczka, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Constance A. (Zurek) Mazure

May 9, 1915 – February 10, 2000

Mrs. Constance A. Mazure, 84, of Ubly died Thursday, February 10, 2000, at Huron Memorial Hospital in Bad Axe.  She was born May 9, 1915, in Tyre, daughter of the late Peter and Frances (Grimski) Zurek.  She married Matthew Mazure on October 13, 1934, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.  She was a graduate of Tyre Country School.  She was a bartender at Verona and Ubly Taverns for many years.  She was a salesperson for Glass Ben Franklin and Glass Fashions for 25 years.  She worked at Mazure Orchards for many years.  She was a parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville, a life member of St. Mary Rosary Sodality, a life member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No. 608 of Bad Axe, a member of the Parisville Senior Citizens and a Eucharistic minister at St. Mary for many years.  She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, gardening and tending her flower garden, cooking and family visiting.  

She is survived by her husband, Matthew Mazure of Ubly; three sons, Virgil Mazure and his wife, Nancy, of Bad Axe, Willard Mazure and his wife, Louise, of Livonia and Lavern Mazure and his wife, Judy, of Milford; two daughters, Diane Leppek and her husband, Ronald, of Bad Axe and Joyce Lamke and her husband, Myron, of Ubly; 13 grandchildren, Lisa Polega and her husband, Martin, of Bad Axe, Rodney Mazure and his wife, Lori, of Cass City, Erin Mazure of Bad Axe, Willard Mazure and his wife, Linda, of Jackson, Kevin Mazure and his wife, Cindy, of Westland, Radene Leppek and her fiancé, Mark Kumaus, of Ubly, Rhonda Leppek of Ubly, Rene Leppek and her fiancé, Keith Kluger, of Bad Axe, Ryan Leppek and his wife, Janet, of Bad Axe, Kristy Hallock and her husband, Jim, of Bad Axe, Elliot Lamke of Ubly, Michele Olechnowicz and her husband, Scott, of South Lyon and Matthew H. Mazure of Massachusetts; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Raymond Zurek and his wife, Mary, of Ubly, Chester Zurek and his wife, Virginia, of Livonia, Sylvester Zurek and his wife, Marie, of Walled Lake, Leo Zurek and his wife, Maryanne, of Centerline and Marvin Zurek and his wife, Grace, of Sand Point; two sisters, Irene Lemke and her husband, Ervin, of Tyre and Bernice Burkhard and her husband, Edwin, of Harbor Beach; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Zurek of Harbor Beach; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Elmer Zurek; and one sister, Martha Zurek. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2000, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville. The Rev. Stanley Surman will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in Ubly.  There will be a rosary by the St. Mary Rosary Sodality at 7 p.m. and a rosary by the Daughters of Isabella at 8:30 p.m., both tonight at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  Visitation is 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
