Florence C.  (Hessling) Booms   

October 9, 1921 - November 11, 2009

Florence C.  Booms, 88, of Bad Axe, formerly of Harbor Beach, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at Courtney Manor Nursing Center of Bad Axe.   She was born October 9, 1921 in Helena to the late Henry and Adeline (Terbrack) Hessling.   Florence and Bernard Booms were united in marriage May 28, 1941 in St.  Anthony’s Church in Helena.   Together, they farmed for many years and raised their family, until they retired in the 1980s.   He preceded her in death August 26, 1989.    Florence was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bad Axe.   She enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, playing cards, visiting with family and friends.   She loved to bake and care for her family while teaching her children about life.   

 

She is survived by her children: David Booms and his wife, Mary Ann, of Port Hope; Thomas Booms and his wife, Diana, of Port Hope; Mary Jane Horner and her husband, Thomas, of Ypsilanti; Pauline Kubacki and her husband, Bernard, of Bad Axe; Bernadette Lubeski and her husband, Wayne, of Bad Axe; Patricia King and her husband, Ron, of Montgomery, Texas; Leslie Booms and his wife, Deborah, of Bad Axe; Patrick Booms and his wife, Kay, of Houston, Texas; Nicholas Booms and his wife, Paula, of New Berlin, Wisconsin; Gary Booms and his wife, Julie, of Harbor Beach; Karen Booms and Heidi Still of Bad Axe; Douglas Booms and his wife, Kristin, of Harbor Beach; and Joann Jezewski and her husband, James, of Burtchville; 39 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Peruski and her husband, Alvin, of Parisville; and a sister-in-law, Rita Booms of Harbor Beach.   Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Booms, in 1989; son, Timothy Booms, in 1958; daughter, Elizabeth Lawrence, in 1978, granddaughter, Karla Booms, in 1989; and step-grandson, Jason Jezewski, in 2008; brother, Elmer Hessling, and a sister, Lucille Learman.   

 

Funeral Mass for Florence will be at 11 a.m.  Monday, November  16, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with her grandson, Fr.  Andy Booms officiating.  Burial will follow in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church Cemetery.   Visitation for Florence will be from 7 to 9 p.m.  Saturday in the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach, and from 1 to 9 p.m.  Sunday in the funeral home.  Visitation on Monday will begin at 10 am until time of services at 11 a.m.  in the church.  A parish vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m.  Sunday in the funeral home.   Memorials may be made to OLLH School and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Greg James Booms

September 18, 1961July 5, 2009

Greg James Booms, 47, Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2009 at Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas.  He was born on September 18, 1961 in Harbor Beach to Marvin and the late Virginia (Wrubel) Booms. Greg and Cindy Weiss were married on November 5, 1994 in Harbor Beach.  Greg was a mechanic for Harbor Beach Community Schools since 1992.  He enjoyed modified tractor pulling, drag racing and especially being with his family. Greg was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

 

He is survived by his wife, Cindy, Harbor Beach; daughter, Courtney Booms, Peck; sons, Zackery and Jessy Booms, Harbor Beach; father, Marvin Booms, Harbor Beach; brothers: Russell (Lorie) Booms, Bad Axe, Roy (Peg) Booms, Minden City and Dale (Pam) Booms, Harbor Beach and sister, Carol (Lenny) Fisher, Kinde.

 

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 10, 2009 in Zion Lutheran Church, Harbor Beach with Rev. David McCloskey officiating. Burial was in Rock Falls Cemetery, Harbor Beach. Funeral arrangements were handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach.

 
 
 
 
 
Helen M. (Eppenbrock) Booms

Helen M. Booms, 85, of Sand Beach Township near Harbor Beach passed away Sunday, January 9, 2000, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital.  
 
Helen is survived by four sons, Marvin Booms and his wife, Virginia, of Harbor Beach; Paul Booms and his wife, Shirley, of Harbor Beach; Michael Booms and his wife, Linda, of Shelby Township; and Lloyd Booms and his wife, Elizabeth, of Ubly; four daughters, Donna Pulcer and her husband, Raymond, of Harbor Beach; Sr. Jean Booms, IHM, of Monroe; Eileen Volmering and her husband, Jerome, of Harbor Beach; and Sharon Messing and her husband, Calvin, of Long Island, New York; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild.  
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2000, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Helena, with the Rev. Charlie Hammond, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Laura C. (Scholtz) Booms

October 12, 1907 – May 25, 2001

Laura C. Booms, 93, of Harbor Beach passed away Friday, May 25, 2001 in the long  term unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a short illness.  Born in Harbor Beach on October 12, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Wolschleger) Scholtz.  Laura and Clarence Booms were united in marriage on April 1, 1929 in Harbor Beach.  Clarence preceded her in death on June 28, 1982.  She attended business college in Detroit and was a former employee of the Booms Silo Co. in Harbor Beach. Laura enjoyed her family, playing cards, and games such as Rummicub.  She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena and the Alter Society and the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. 

 

Laura is survived by five sons: James Booms, Robert Booms, Gene Booms, and his wife, Emily, all of Harbor Beach; Albert Booms and his wife, Nenita of Athens, Georgia; and Warren Booms and his wife, Ana, of Saginaw; six daughters: Barbara Mazure, and her husband, Raymond, Marilyn Essenmacher, and her husband, Lloyd, Charlotte Kranz and her husband, Lawrence, Clarice Siemen and her husband, Ronald, Matilda Messing and her husband, Daniel, all of Harbor Beach; and Ramona Bell of San Antonio, Texas; 73 grandchildren; 130 great-grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Booms; two sons, Kenneth Booms and Stephen Booms; four grandchildren, Bruce Booms, Corrina Siemen, Martha and Daniel Messing; two great grandchildren, Jason Booms and Andrea Wruble; a sister, Dorothy Booms; and a brother, John Scholtz. 

 

Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, May, 28, 2001 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Kukla, pastor officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Church Cemetery, Helena.  A St. Anthony's Altar Society Rosary took place on Saturday. The Parish Vigil service will be at 8 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach. Leonard W. Booms
October 18, 1918June 13, 2002
Leonard W. Booms, 83, of Harbor Beach passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2002, at his home under hospice care.  Born on October. 18, 1918, on the family farm homestead on Eppenbrock Road near Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Bischer) Booms.  Leonard attended the Track School.  He and Rita Geiger were married on June 17, 1941. Together they farmed in Sherman Township and raised their 14 
children.  He worked also for Dott Manufacturing for 29 years, retiring in March 2001.  He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena.  He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, doing mechanical repairs and gardening.  
 
Leonard is survived by his wife, Rita Booms of Harbor Beach; children, Ronald Booms and his wife, 
Pauline, of Ruth, Richard Booms and his wife, Connie, of Bad Axe, Sandra Stacer and her husband, Herb, of Rochester Hills, Nancy Vogel and her husband, Frank, of Minden City, Janis Quint and her husband, Don, of Warren, Larry Booms of Shalimar, Florida, Wally Booms and his wife, Carol, of Harbor Beach, Cheryl Cole and her husband, Gene, of Port Huron, John Booms and his wife, Jean, of Kawkawlin, Glen Booms and his wife, Lynda, of Bay City, Wayne Booms and his wife, Margie, of Marysville, Tim Booms and his wife, Paula, of Haslett, Perry Booms and his wife, Jacki, of Taylor, Texas and Terry Booms and his wife, Wendy, of Northville; 38 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosaline Messing and Margaret Maurer, both of Harbor Beach; many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean; five brothers, Roman, Arthur, Wilfred, Leroy, and twin brother, Bernard; five sisters, Clara Roggenbuck, Loretta Dropiewski, Alma Messing, Bernetta Messing and Emma Geiger.  
 
A funeral mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2002, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena with the Rev. Charlie Hammond, pastor officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. A parish vigil service will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach.  Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the church.  Memorials may be given to the St. Anthony's Memorial Fund or to Huron Memorial Hospice.

Olive (Jenny) G. (Sharette) Simons Booms
December 18, 1908November 27, 2005
Olive G. Booms, 96, of Bad Axe, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2005, at her home.  She was born December 18, 1908 in Filion to the late Posco and Nora Mae (Benson) Sharette.   She marred Wilbur Simons in 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1954.  She remarried in 1970 to Roman Booms. He preceded her in death in 1982.   She worked at Mary's Steakhouse for a number of years.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Olive enjoyed fishing, gardening, canning, and dancing. She was able to drive until the age of 95.   
 
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. (Simons) Ney and her husband, Donald "Butch," of Bad Axe; seven step-children, Herb Booms and his wife, Pat, of Jedo, Norma Essenmacher and her husband, Jake, of Carsonville, Floyd Booms and his wife, Eleanor, of Bad Axe, Danny Booms and his wife, Marge, of Harbor Beach, Marie Kanakel and her husband, Joseph, of Littleton, Colorado, Alvin Booms, of Minden City, George Booms and his wife, Arlene, of Minden City; eight grandchildren, Keith Williams, of Valleymills, Texas, Brenda Hale and her husband, James, of Moody, Texas, Jay Williams and his wife, Tina, of Crawford, Texas, Sherrie Lalond and her husband, Steve, of Bad Axe, Terri Ney, of Filion, Ron Ney and his wife, Alicia, of Harbor Beach, Mike Ney and his wife, Angel, of Elkton; 25 step-grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by two children, Sarah Lou Simons and John Leroy Simons; one step-son, Cliff Booms; and three grandchildren.   
 
Funeral services will be take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, 
December 1, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Fr. James Carlson will preside.  Burial will be in Colfax Township Cemetery.

Virginia M. (Wrubel) Booms

July 8, 1938 - September 3, 2005

Virginia M.  Booms, 67, of Harbor Beach passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at Tendercare of Cass City.  She was born in Parisville on July 8, 1938, the daughter of the late Aloise and Nettie (Mazure) Wrubel.   On October  3, 1959, Virginia and Marvin Booms were united in marriage in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville.  She was a member of the St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena and the Altar Society.  

 

Virginia is survived by her husband, Marvin Booms of Harbor Beach; her children: Russell Booms and his wife, Lorie, of Bad Axe; Gregory Booms and his wife, Sandy, of Harbor Beach; Roy Booms and his wife, Peg, of Minden City; Dale Booms and his wife Pam, of Harbor Beach; and Carol Fisher and her husband, Len, of Kinde; eight grandchildren; a brother, Archie Wrubel of Carsonville; two sisters, Adeline Rudy of Bad Axe and Alice Wrubel of Pontiac. 

 

Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Helena, with Fr. Andrzej Boroch officiating.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.
