Floyd F. Abraham

Floyd F. Abraham, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2002.  Floyd was born in Parisville on October 17, 1913, the son of the late Bertha and Jacob Abraham.  He was married to Florence Schumacher on November 19, 1938 in Ruth.  He grew up in Huron County where he worked as a farmer.  During his lifetime he drove milk truck and worked for Michigan Peat in Minden City.  He retired at the age of 70 and had lived with his son in Mikado for the past 18 years.  Mr. Abraham was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and an usher for SS. Peter and Paul Church in Ruth for many years.  He loved gardening, weaving and cooking.  
 
He is survived by his children, Ann Marie Pawloski and her husband, Robert, of East Tawas, Charlene Stojsik and her husband, Thomas, of Greenbush, Marlene Wachoski and her husband, Martin, of Royal Oak, Rosemary DeVito and her husband, Greg, of Eastpointe, Barbara Meyer and her husband, Bruce, of East Tawas, Gary Abraham and his wife, Michele, of Harrisville, Paula Terese Booms and her husband, Nicholas, of New Berlin, Wisconsin, and Christopher Abraham and his wife, Amy, of Greenbush; 23 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Ruth Kaliszewski and Bebe Ann Frahm.  Mr. Abraham was preceded in death by one daughter, Paula Agnes who died at 2 months of age in 1941; four brothers, Alfred, Paul, Melvin and Alger; and two sisters, Evelyn and Eugenia.  
 
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2002 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Harrisville.  There will be a rosary service at 7:30 tonight at the Oscoda Chapel of the Buresh-Bennett Funeral Home, 212 River Road, in Oscoda.  Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church. A committal service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ruth.  Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice

Eleanor (Messing) Adler
July 18, 1921June 16, 2002
Mrs. Eleanor Adler, 80, of Ruth passed away Sunday, June 16, 2002, at St. Mary Medical Center of Saginaw.  She was born on July 18, 1921, in Ruth to the late Henry and Helen (Tenbusch) Messing. She married John Adler on May 25, 1946, at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  Eleanor was a graduate of SS. Peter & Paul Elementary School. S he worked with her family on the farm until going to Detroit to work at Packard 
Motor Car Co. for a few years.  She returned home to marry and raise a family.  She was a member of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville and St. John's Christian Mothers. S he enjoyed gardening, euchre, dancing, scrap booking, spending time with family and visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  
 
Eleanor is survived by her husband of 56 years, John, of Ruth; one daughter, Darlene Schelke and her 
husband, Larry, of Harbor Beach; three sons, Ron and his wife, Ruth Ann (Kirsch), of New Hudson, Jerry and his wife, Kathy (Ginnel), of Ruth, Jim and his wife, Jan (Kriewall), of Ruth; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Messing and his wife, Theresa, of Harbor Beach and Andrew Messing of Bad Axe; three sisters, Anna Essenmacher of Bad Axe, Magdeline Kranz of Bad Axe and Dorothy Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach.  She was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Walter, Arthur and Lawrence Messing; four sisters, Helen Kirsch, Clara Clor, Irene Samulski and an infant sister.  
 
The funeral mass for Eleanor Adler will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville. The Rev. Paul Bala, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be a parish vigil service by Fr. Bala at 7:30 tonight at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  Visitation is from 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church of Forestville.

John Alfred Adler

September 29, 1919December 30, 2006

Mr. John Alfred Adler, 87, of Ruth passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility where he had been a resident for the past year.  John was born September 29, 1919 in Sherman Township, to George and Lauretta (Klug) Adler. He married Eleanor Messing May 25, 1946 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  He and Eleanor had been married 56 years before she preceded him in death June 16, 2002.  Together they farmed on their Centennial Farm in Sherman Township until he retired in 1981.  John was a graduate of Sherman Center No. 1 Country School. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Fifth Armored Division in Europe.  He earned five Bronze Stars for serving in the Northern France, Normandy, Rhineland, Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) and Central Germany campaigns.  He was a member of the VFW Post 5740.  John was a member of St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church in Forestville, where he served as an usher for many years. After retirement, until his illness, he loved helping his son with farming.  The past few years he had enjoyed hearing what was going on around the farm and feeding and watching the birds.  He was very proud to still own his very first tractor, an Allis Chalmers B.  He enjoyed euchre, dancing, gardening and visiting with his family, relatives and friends.

 

John is survived by one daughter, Darlene Schelke and her husband, Larry, of Harbor Beach; three sons, Ronald Adler and his wife, Ruth Ann (Kirsch) of New Hudson, Jerry Adler and his wife, Kathy (Ginnel) of Ruth, Jim Adler and his wife, Jan (Kriewall) of Ruth, 11 grandchildren, Shelley (Adler) Strzalkowski and her husband, Jason, Kris Adler and his wife, Leeanne (Tam), Chad and Jason Adler, Daniel and Jackie Adler, Tammy (Messing) Roberts and her husband, Brian, Timothy Messing and his wife, Tia (Sontag), Jeffrey, Brad, and Renee Adler; two step-grandchildren, Kelly (Schelke) Block and her husband, Kevin, Bradley Schelke; five great-grandchildren, Austin, Makalya and Brendan Roberts, Yan Yee Adler, Caeden Graves; two step-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Nolan Block; one sister, Anna Sawielski of Harbor Beach; three brothers, Herman Adler and his wife, Sylvia, of St. Peters, Missouri, Bill Adler and his wife, Helen, of Fraser, Ed Adler and his wife, Janet, of Bad Axe; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Messing and his wife, Theresa, of Harbor Beach and Andrew Messing of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Roggenbuck of Harbor Beach.

 

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at St. John Catholic Church of Forestville. The Rev. Paul Bala, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly is handling the arrangements.

Anthony Joseph Cieslinski

Anthony "Tony" J.  Cieslinski, 84, of Ubly, passed away Saturday, November 22, 2003, at the home of his daughter, Mary Vandemark, in Marquette under hospice care.  Tony was born to the late Joseph and Janina (Dembski) Cieslinski on November 10, 1919 in Cleveland, Ohio, where he lived for the first year of his life before moving to Ubly.  He married the love of his life, Marcella Pauline Sofka, on October 25, 1941, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church of Ubly.  In his youth, Tony was a Golden Glove Boxer.  Due to the depression, Tony left school to work the family farm.  In 1974, the Ubly Board of Education bestowed upon Tony an honorary Diploma of Graduation.  He served on the Ubly School Board as past treasurer for 12 years.  Tony and Marcella moved to their farm in Peck in 1942, before returning to Ubly in 1956, where he continued to farm until 1995.  Since Tony was a life long dairy and crop farmer, he was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement   Association, the Michigan Animal Breeders Cooperative and the Farm Bureau.  He served for ten years as a member of the Michigan Milk Producers Board, and was a past president of the Michigan Farm Association.  Tony also received several awards for Michigan Milk Production of over 20,000 pounds per average.  He was a life long member of both St. John the Evangelist Church and its choir.  He was a fourth degree member of the Ubly/Sheridan Knights of Columbus and a member of the original Alabama Jubilee Productions in Ubly.  Tony and Marcy enjoyed traveling, spending winters in Florida, visiting with family and friends and he always enjoyed a good game of cards.  
 
Tony is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marcella, of Ubly; his children, Michael A  Cieslinski and his wife, Melinda, of L'Anse, John P.  Cieslinski and his wife, Glennda, of Ubly, Mary E.  Vandemark and her husband, Terry, of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Gary (Marie Hasselman) Cieslinski, Michael A.  (Lori) Cieslinski III, Amy L.  (Tim Lightfoot) Cieslinski, Joseph P.  (Jennifer Roberts) Cieslinski, Kit (Steve) Lipe, Ty (Jason) Witting, Zackery (Kirsten Bolton) Vandemark; seven great-grandchildren, Chantel, Matthew, and Cheyanne Cieslinski, Nikki and Errin Ewald, Codi Lipe, and Alexysis Witting.    Tony was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph; two infant sisters; and one brother, John Cieslinski.    
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m.  on Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at St.  John Catholic Church of Ubly.  The Rev.  T.J.  Fleming, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.    Visitation will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. today, 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 9 a.m.  on Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  There will be a joint rosary by the Knights of Columbus and Daughters of Isabella at 7:30 p.m.Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Marcella Pauline (Sofka) Cieslinski

Marcella "Marcy" P. Cieslinski, 84, of Ubly, passed away Saturday, September 4, 2004, at the home of her daughter, Mary Vandemark, in Marquette.  Marcella was born to the late Martin H. and Anna (Grzybowski) Sofka on January 25, 1920 in Ubly.  She married her beloved husband, Anthony "Tony" Joseph Cieslinski, on October 25,1941 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church.  He preceded her in death on November 22, 2003.    Marcy and Tony moved to their farm in Peck in 1942, before returning to Ubly in 1956, where they farmed and had a dairy operation.  Marcy was Tony's lifetime helper on the farm and was active with Tony in the Michigan Animal Breeders Cooperative.  As well as working on the farm and the dairy operation, Marcy was a busy homemaker, yearly planting a large garden and preserving the harvest while raising their children.  She was a gifted seamstress making clothing and items for the home.  Marcy was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Fidelis Regina Circle No.  608 and the St.  John Christian Mothers Circle No. 4 Queen of Angels.  Marcy and Tony enjoyed traveling very much, although being at their Florida residence was her favorite.  She always looked forward to the children, relatives, and friends visiting them there.  She was the queen to her family and friends when it came to baking desserts and candies, with English toffee being a specialty.  Marcy always enjoyed playing cards, even until shortly before her death, though she said it wasn't as much fun without her Tony.  
 
Marcy is survived by her children, Michael A. Cieslinski and his wife, Melinda, of L'Anse, John Cieslinski and his wife, Glennda, of Ubly, and Mary E.  Vandemark and her husband, Terry, of Marquette; seven grandchildren, Michael Cieslinski III and his wife, Lori, Gary (Marie Hasselman) Cieslinski , Amy L. (Tim Lightfoot) Cieslinski, Joseph A.  (Jennifer Roberts) Cieslinski, Kit (Steve) Lipe, Ty (Jason) Witting, and Zackery Vandemark; nine great-grandchildren, Chantel, Matthew and Cheyanne Cieslinski, Nikki and Errin Ewald, Codi Lipe, Alexys and Aydan Witting, and Nathan Vandemark.    Marcella was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony "Tony" Cieslinski; an infant son, Joseph; one brother, Henry Sofka; one sister, Adrianna Wasierski.    
 
Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at St. John Catholic Church of Ubly.  The Rev. T.J.  Fleming, pastor of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, will officiate.  Burial will be at the St.  John Cemetery.    Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m.  on Monday, 1 to 9 p.m.  on Tuesday, and from 9 to 10 a.m.  on Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.    There will be a joint rosary at 8:30 p.m.  Tuesday at the funeral home by St.  John Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella.  

 

 

Agnes C. (Heilig) Clor
September 29, 1923April 15, 2002
Agnes C. Clor, 78, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, April 15, 2002, in St. Mary's Medical Center following a brief illness.  She was born on September 29, 1923, in Ruth to the late Edward and Anna (McCleod) Heilig.  Agnes and Thomas Clor were married on August 16, 1941, in Ruth.  Thomas preceded her in death on March 20, 1994.   She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. She loved to play cards, work in her flower garden, work on her lawn, and was always willing to help others in their times of need.   
 
Agnes is survived by her children, Carol Sawdon and her husband, Bruce, of Algonac, Thomas L. Clor and his wife, Helen, of Minden City, Jean Lemanski and her husband, Dennis, of Dearborn, Robert Clor and his wife, Gaile, of Rochester Hills, Gordon Clor and his wife, Karen, of Port Huron and Marcus Clor and his wife, Terri, of Sterling Heights; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence Heilig of Port Huron, Eugene Heilig and his wife, Josephine, of Port Austin and Gerald Heilig of Ubly; and a sister, Marie Clor of Port Huron.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie and Tony Heilig; and a grandson, Timothy Sawdon.  
 
Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2002, in Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach with the Rev. Gerald Kukla officiating. Burial will take place in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Ruth.  There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach.  Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. this evening and 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Thursday at the church.

Eugene Mark Clor
May 29, 1933 - March 4, 2000
Eugene M. Clor, 66, of East Lansing, formerly of Argyle Township, died at his daughter's residence on Saturday March 4, 2000 after a short illness.  He was born May 29, 1933, in Minden City, son of the late Leo and Elizabeth ( Newsom) Clor. He married Ellen Ann Walker on December 28, 1962 in Plymouth.  She preceded him in death November 22, 1972.  He was a graduate of the Minden Elementary School.  He was a wheelsman on the Great Lakes Ships from 1948-1963.  Was in the U.S. Navy from November 1955 to August 1957. He farmed in Argyle Township from many years.  He was owner of the Pit Stop Party Store for 54 years, retiring in 1997.  He was a former member and usher of St. Joseph Parish in Argyle. He was also a former member of the school board for the Star School as well as a member of the National Farmers Organization. 
 
Eugene is survived by two daughters, Lizbeth Clor of East Lansing, Janet Howe and her husband, David, of Ann Arbor; two sons, Leo Clor and his wife, Mary Ann, of Huntington, Indiana, Joseph Clor and his wife, Jennifer, of Rochester Hills; eight grandchildren; five sisters, Ann Prine and her husband, Donald, of Port Sanilac, Junie Brown and her husband, C. Richard, of Long Beach, California, Frances Myers and her husband, Dennis, of Pinckney, Judy Swartz and her husband, Charles, of Harbor Beach, Darlene House and her husband, Gerry, of Metamora; one brother, Patrick Clor and his wife Eva, of Marion, Texas.  He was preceded in death by one sister Betty Jean Mills.  
 
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday March 7, 2000, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Argyle. Rev. Anthony Wozniak, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be at 2:30 until 9:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. Gabriel Benedict Clor
March 24, 1928December 8, 1998
Gabe Clor, age 70, of Caseville died Thursday, December 8, at his home of a probable heart attack.  He was born March 24, 1928 in Harbor Beach to the late Joseph and Clare (Messing) Clor.  After leaving the family farm near Forestville, Mr. Clor served in the Coast Guard on the Great Lakes.  At one time he owned Gabe’s Sinclair Service Station in Forestville.  He worked fro Marlette Mobile Homes from 1929 to 1964 and in 1971 retired from his job as a welder at Ranke, Inc. in Roseville where he had been employed since 1965.  Mr. Clor moved from Sterling Heights to Caseville in 1987.  He was a member of St. Roch Catholic Church in Caseville, and a member of the Caseville Eagles.
 
Surviving are four daughters, Linda Clor of Macomb Township, Gloria (Arnie) Abrott of Granit Bay, California, Marsha Lee of Romeo and Lisa (John) Flanigan of Sterling Heights; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Andrea, Mitchell, Shannon, Jacob, Bradley and Sarah; four sisters, Marie (Lawrence) Klee, Regina (Jean) LaVerne, Joann (Lewis) Slavick, and Patricia Clor and three brothers, Fabian (Laura Jane), Benjamin (Ilene), and Gerald (Priscilla).  One brother, Luke, preceded him in death.
 
Eagle Services will be 6:00 PM Wednesday at Champagne Funeral Home, Caseville.  A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, December 10, at St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville,  Rev. Fr. Dennis Kucharczyk, pastor will officiate with burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Forestville.  Memorial may be given to St. Roch Catholic Church.
 
 
 
 

Juanita M. (Stacer) Clor

February 23, 1908April 16, 2000

Mrs. Juanita M. Clor, 92, of Ruth died Sunday evening, April 16, 2000, at the Harbor Beach Long Term Care Facility.  She was born February 23, 1908, in Ruth, daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Volmering) Stacer.  She married Nicholas Clor on October 22, 1929, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  He preceded her in death on December 8, 1964.  She was a graduate of Country School. She worked with her family on the farm before her marriage, then worked with her husband on the farm.  She moved to Ruth in 1970 and was a former member of the Farm Bureau.   She was a parishioner of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  She enjoyed quilting, needlework and gardening. 

 

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Bismack of Roseville; one son, Ronald Clor and his wife, Rosalee, of Clinton Township; 10 grandsons; two granddaughters; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Harold Stacer of Ruth and Merlin Stacer and his wife, Magdalene, of Ruth.  She was preceded in death by one daughter, Doris Ann White; infant sister, Adelaide Stacer; and four brothers, Robert, Wilfred, Quentin and Jerome Stacer. 

 

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Ronald Wagner, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be a parish wake service at 8 p.m. tonight by Fr. Wagner at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  Visitation will be 1:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Leo Benedict Clor

Leo B.  Clor, 93, of Ruth, died Wednesday, January 1, 1997, at St.  Joseph Hospital of Ann Arbor, after a long illness.  He was born March 15, 1903, son of the late Joseph and Caroline (Terbrack) Clor.    He married Elizabeth Newsom on September 29, 1931 at Sts.  Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. 

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) of Ruth; six daughters: Betty Jean (Clor) Mills of Adrian; Ann Prine and her husband, Donald, of Port Sanilac; Junie Brown and her husband, C.  Richard, of Long Beach, California; Frances Meyers and her husband, Dennis, of Pinckney; Judy Swartz and her husband, Charles, of Harbor Beach; Darlene House and her husband, Gerry, of Metamora; two sons: Eugene Clor of Harbor Beach and Patrick Clor and his wife, Eva, of Marion, Texas; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph, Nicholas and Jacob Clor; four sisters: Sr. Marie Louis Gonzaga, Antonia Downey;  Sr. Adella Catherine Joseph and Catherine Messing; two sons: Leo and William Clor; and a daughter-in-law, Ellen Walker Clor. 


Funeral services will be
10 a.m.  Saturday at Sts.  Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.   The Rev.  Ronald Wagner, pastor, will officiate.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.   Visitation will be 12:30-9:30 p.m.  Friday and 8-9 a.m.  Saturday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home of Ubly.   A parish wake service will be 8 p.m.  Friday at the funeral home.

Ronald Jerome Clor

Ronald Jerome Clor, 57, a resident of Clinton Township, died suddenly, Sunday, July 8, 2001, in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Clinton Township.  Ronald was born on May 3, 1944, in Harbor Beach, the son of Nicholas and Juanita (Stacer) Clor. Ronald was a 1962 graduate of Ss. Peter and Paul High School in Ruth. He was employed for 35 years at RonArt Industries in Detroit where he was a foreman.  Ronald enjoyed spending time with his family, flying, racing cars, walks on the farm and campfires, all with his family.  
 
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Rosalee (Mausolf); sons, Kent and his wife, Sandra, of Macomb Township, Darren and his wife, Jeannie VanTiem, of Clinton Township; very special grandchildren, Nicholas Kent and Jake Alexander Clor; sister, Mary Jane Bismack of Roseville; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.  Ronald was predeceased by his sister, Doris Ann White.  
 
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at the Murphy and Hauss Funeral Directors, 47477 Romeo Plank in Macomb Township. The Rev. Fr. Bob Meissner will officiate.  Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Lois Marie Dekoski, 37, of Ubly, passed away Sunday, January 15, 2006, at the United Hospice Residence of Marlette.    Lois was born on March 4, 1968 in Harbor Beach to Donald and Nancy (Koss) Terbrack.  She married Keith Dekoski on November 14, 1987 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  She was a graduate of Ubly High School.  She worked at McDonald Foodland for six years.  She worked for Dr. Batzer for three years and Dr. Corsini for four years.  She was a parishioner at St. Mary Catholic Church of Parisville for 18 years.  She taught religious education at St. Mary's for 10 years.  She liked to crotchet.  Lois was a caring and loving person who loved spending time with her family and friends.  
 
Lois is survived by her husband, Keith Dekoski, of Ubly; her children, Katelyn, Courtney, and Matthew Dekoski, all at home; her parents, Donald and Nancy Terbrack, of Harbor Beach; two sisters, Dorothy Messing and her husband, Chris, of Minden City, Ann Silory and her husband, Terry, of Emmett; three brothers, Ken Terbrack, of Ferndale, Ed Terbrack, of Bad Axe, Bill Terbrack and his wife, Kay, of Ruth; grandparents, Art and Dorothy Koss, of Harbor Beach; father and mother-in-law, Ken and Pat Dekoski, of Ruth; five brothers-in-law, Mike Dekoski and his wife, Lisa, of Clinton Township, Scott Dekoski, of Sterling Heights, Kenny Dekoski, of Ruth, Kurt Dekoski and his wife, Carrie, of Macomb Township, Jeff Dekoski and his wife, Amy, of South Dakota; one sister-in-law, Karen Dekoski, of Bay City; and many nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles.  She was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Cecelia Terbrack; and many aunts and uncles. 
 
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m.  on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at St.  Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.  The Rev. Andrzej Boroch, pastor, will preside.  Burial will be at a later date.   Visitation will be at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly from 1:30 to 9 p.m.  today and from 9 to 10 a.m.  on Wednesday.  There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.    Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund or United Hospice of Marlette.

Loretta C. (Booms) Dropiewski

Loretta C.  Dropiewski, 95, of Harbor Beach and formerly of Port Hope, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2000, in the long-term care unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital.    Daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bischer) Booms, she was born on November 13, 1904, in Harbor Beach.   She and Frank Dropiewski were married on November 16, 1936, in Harbor Beach.   He preceded her in death on July 3, 1968.    She was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and the Altar Society.    
 
Surviving are two daughters: Lavonne Cloutier of Harbor Beach and Karen Coates and her husband, Richard, of Port Huron; one son, Kenneth Dropiewski and his wife, Pat, of Westland; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard Booms and his wife, Rita, of Harbor Beach; and three sisters: Bernetta Messing of Lexington, Roseline Messing of Harbor Beach, and Margaret Maurer of Harbor Beach.    She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Todd, in 1971; five brothers: Roman, Art, Wilfred, Leroy and Bernard Booms; and three sisters: Clara Roggenbuck, Emma Geiger and Alma Messing.    
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2000, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. The Rev. Edward Konieczka, pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery in Harbor Beach.  A parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m.Thursday at the Ramsey Funeral Home, at golden Rule Funeral Home, in Harbor Beach.

Donald James Duda

Donald James Duda, 69, of Harbor Beach passed away suddenly on Friday, November 27, 2009.   He was born August 1, 1940 in Bad Axe to Mildred (Susalla) Duda and the late Elmer J.  Duda.   He married Sandra Sosnoski June 3, 1961 at St.  Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson.   Don was a lifelong resident of Huron County.   He was graduate of Bad Axe High School and attended Central Michigan University.   He farmed in Sigel Township, retiring in 2002.   He then became employed as a security guard at Dow Agrosciences in Harbor Beach and has worked there since.   He was a member of the Eccles School Board for many years.  Don was a lifelong member of St.  Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson, where he served as both a committee member and usher.   He was an avid sportsman and founding member of the Rapson Sportsmen’s Club.   He also was a member of the Bad Axe Moose Lodge No.  2358.   He was a farmer who enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting.  His wit and humor will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra of Harbor Beach; two daughters: Devon (Brent) Sitterley of Ann Arbor; Kimberly A. Duda of Chicago, Illinois; one son: Chad Duda of Chicago, Illinois; two grandsons, Grant and Cole Sitterley of Ann Arbor; mother, Mildred Duda of Harbor Beach; three sisters: Diane (Henry) Torres of Vero Beach, Florida; Cheryl Duda and Larry Loveland of Grand Rapids; Cynthia (Stuart III) Dunnings of Lansing; four nieces, Leah Torres of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Courtney, Coral and Winter Dunnings of Lansing; one nephew, Matthew Torres of Steamboat Springs, Colorado.   He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer J.  Duda.

 

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m.  Wednesday, December  2, 2009 at St.  Joseph Catholic Church in Rapson.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.   Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  Monday, from 1 to 9 p.m.  Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m.  Wednesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly.  There will be a parish vigil service at 6 p.m.  Tuesday at the funeral home.   Memorials are requested to the Family Discretionary Fund.

Christina Ann (Kubacki) Eilers

Christina Ann Eilers, 81, of Bad Axe, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at her home.  She was born on July 24, 1924 to the late August and Mary Kubacki.  She was united in marriage to the late Alvin Eilers on February 23, 1946 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Smith Corners.  Christina was a resident of Bad Axe and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.  She worked in healthcare for many years at Sunny Acres Nursing Home, Huron Medical Center, and Tendercare Home Health.    After her retirement, she loved being with and traveling to see her children and grandchildren.  She also enjoyed polka music, gardening, delivering Meals on Wheels, senior bus trips, bingo, and assisting the Special Olympics as a bowling partner.  
Chris is survived by four daughters, Barbara Eilers, of New Orleans; Mary (Robert) Corbett, of Lansing, and their children, Erin and William; Pauline (James) Myler, of Gaylord, and their children, James, Christian, Aaron, Rebekah, and Emily; and 
Donna Falardeau, of Waterford, and her daughter, Abigail; and seven sons, Donald (Gay) Eilers, of Port Huron, and their children, James (Deborah), Eric, and Elizabeth (Jason) Heffner; Alvin (Lynne) Eilers, of Traverse City and their daughter, Laura (Anthony) Tridico; Charles (Sue) Eilers, of Millington, and their children, Brian, Michelle, and Pam (Travis) Cooper; David (Jeanne) Eilers, and their children, Chris (Laura), Katherine, and Matthew; Michael (Dianne) Eilers, of Bad Axe, and their children, Noelle, Marcy, Ryan (Frances), Rory Eilers, and Danny Dekoske; Steven (Sheila) Eilers, of Sanger, Texas, and 
their children, Patrick, Stephen, Meghan, and Leif; and Harold (Angela), of Amarillo, Texas, and children, Jenny, Sam, Alex, Holly, Hannah, and Haley.  Christina's grandchildren have blessed her with nine great-grandchildren, Addison and Conner 
Eilers; John and Anthony Tridico; Adriana, Kate, and Travis Cooper; and Freddie Santiago and Tyler Eilers.    Christina is also survived by five sisters and four brothers, Beatrice (Elmer) Micklash, of Ubly, Frances Polega, of Kinde, Eleanor (Herb) Fligger, of Ubly, Rose Smith, of Filion, Jeanette (Bob) Skipinski, of Lakeville, August (Delores) Kubacki, of Livonia, Eugene (Betty) Kubacki, of Ubly, Anthony (Maryann) Kubacki, of Cass City, Edward (Delores) Kubacki, of Port Austin; and sisters-in-law: Evelyn Stoutenberg, of Lapeer, Ruthie Johns, of Drayton Plains; and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; one son-in-law, William Falardeau; one granddaughter, Hannah Myler; and one brother, Felix Kubacki.  Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Anna M. (Messing) Essenmacher, 102, of Bad Axe, died Saturday, December 24, 2005, at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.   She was born in Sherman Township, Huron County, on May 27, 1903 to the late Henry T. and Helen "Lena" Tenbusch Messing.   Anna married Henry E. Essenmacher on November 12, 1924 in Sherman Township at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Henry preceded her in death on September 12, 1969.  Anna enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.   
 
She is survived by two daughters, Naomi Rogers, of Bad Axe, Helen M. Lemanski, of Port Austin; one son, Marvin Essenmacher, of Bad Axe; one step-daughter, Louise Zdrojewski and her husband, Danny, of Palms; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard Messing and his wife, Theresa, of Bad Axe, Andrew Messing, of Bad Axe; one sister, Dorothy Roggenbuck, of Helena; and many nieces and nephews.   Anna was preceded in death by one son, Robert H. Essenmacher; four brothers, Leo, Walter, Arthur, and Lawrence Messing; five sisters, Clara Clor, Helen Kirsch, Magadalain, Kranz, Eleanor Adler, and Irene Samulski.   
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe. Fr. Jim Carlson will officiate.   Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the MacAlpine Funeral Home in Bad Axe. There will be a scripture at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.   Memorials may be offered to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the donor's choice.

Lloyd Kenneth Essenmacher

Lloyd K. Essenmacher, 81, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, March 9, 2009 peacefully at his home with family at his side while under the care of hospice.  He was born November 23, 1927 in Harbor Beach to the late Joseph and Virginia (Warner) Essenmacher.  Lloyd and Marilyn Booms were united in marriage June 20, 1953 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Helena.  Lloyd was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper in the Eleventh Airborne Division at the end of World War II and in the occupation of Japan.  Following his military service, he completed electronics school, ran a successful television business, and completed his career at Sears through retirement.  Lloyd loved animals and nature and thoroughly enjoyed spending time in the woods.  He was very active in sports, and was always up for a game with his kids or in the community.  He was an avid card player, with euchre and pedro often being played around the home.  Lloyd was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church of Harbor Beach.

 

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, after 55 years of marriage; 11 children, Thomas (Charlet) Essenmacher of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Douglas (Vickie) Essenmacher of Cadillac, Audrey (Steve) Schock of Calgary, Canada, Karen (Mark) Sfara of Youngstown, Ohio, Duane (Chantella) Essenmacher of Katy, Texas, Dale Essenmacher of Augusta, Kansas, Neal (Pauline) Essenmacher of Harbor Beach, Timothy (Courtney) Essenmacher of Lathrup Village, Joseph (Tami) Essenmacher of Shelby Township, Renae (David) Paulson of Webster, Wisconsin, Kevin Essenmacher and friend, Jamie, of Lansing; 34 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Anna) Essenmacher of Bad Axe.  Lloyd was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, George, Maurice, Donald, and Warner.

Clarence Geiger

Clarence Geiger, 94, a retired Sand Beach Township farmer, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his daughter's home, (Susann and Bernard Smaglinski) near Harbor Beach.  He was born September 7, 1914 near Harbor Beach to the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger.  On September 12, 1936 in St. Anthony's Church, Helena, Clarence and Emma Booms were united in marriage.  She preceded him in death on April 10, 1996.  Clarence was a member of Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church, the Men's Club, was an usher, was a member of the Jolly Neighbors Farm Bureau and a long time member of the Tip of the Thumb Square Dancers.  He was also a former Cooper Rural School board member.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, deer hunting, playing cards and dancing.

 

He is survived by his children, Susann (Bernard) Smaglinski, Harbor Beach, MaryAnn (Fred) Jahn, Port Hope, Charles (Judith) Geiger, Harbor Beach; 16 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rita Booms, Harbor Beach, Carolyn LeGault, Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft, Clinton Township; sister-in-law, Florence Booms, Bad Axe and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Geiger on April 28, 1973; three brothers, George (Selma) Geiger, Norman (Margaret) Geiger and Leo (Lucille) Geiger; a sister, Emma (Geiger) and Leland Gentner; and brother-in-laws, Leonard Booms, Raymond LeGault and Robert Kraft.

 

Funeral mass was held on Monday, November 10, 2008 at Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church. Fr. William Spencer officiated, with burial taking place in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Ramsey Funeral Home, Harbor Beach.

Daniel Joseph Geiger, 50, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, November 19, 2007 at his home.  He was born September 4, 1957, to the late George and Selma (Lackowski) Geiger.  Dan was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena and a member of the St. Anthony's Men's Club.

He is survived by his brother, James Geiger and his wife, Linda, of Harbor Beach; sisters, Jean Talaski and her husband, LaVern, of Harbor Beach, Arlene Cook and her husband, Tom, of Harbor Beach, Cheryl Halifax and her husband, Gary, of Harbor Beach and Barb Burkhard and her husband, Randy, of Saginaw; nieces and nephews, Jeff, Doug Talaski, Shelly Cook, Lori Mazure, Brenda Burgess, Denise Coulliard, Angie Frakes, Shannon Grey, Nickolle Geiger, Jason Geiger, Alissa Heleski, Nathan Geiger, Matt Cook, Shawna Hessling, Jenna Halifax, Adam and Aaron Burkhard; and several great-nieces and nephews. Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Geiger; and nephew, Jared Halifax.

George J. Geiger, 91, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, August 28, 2000, in the Long Term Care Unit of Harbor Beach Community Hospital following a short illness.  Born April 1, 1909, in Harbor Beach, he was the son of the late Charles and Lena (Hessling) Geiger.  George and Selma Lackowski were married June 23, 1936, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville. Together they farmed in Sand Beach Township all their lives.  He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Helena and the Men's Club.  George was a lifetime farmer who enjoyed his family, farming, gardening and playing

cards. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Selma Geiger of Harbor Beach; three sons, Larry Geiger and his friend, Rena Wanzer, Jim Geiger and his wife, Linda, and Dan Geiger, all of Harbor Beach; four daughters, Jean Talaski and her husband, LaVern, Arlene Cook and her husband, Tom, Cheryl Halifax and her husband, Gary, all of Harbor Beach and Barb Burkhard and her husband, Randy, of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Geiger and Leo Geiger and his wife, Lucille, of Harbor Beach; and three sisters, Rita Booms and her husband, Leonard, Carolyn Legault and her husband, Ray, all of Harbor Beach and Evelyn Kraft of Detroit.  George was preceded in death by an infant son, David; a grandson, Jared Halifax; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Matthew Talaski; a brother, Norman Geiger; and a sister, Emma Gentner.

Selma M. (Lackowski) Geiger

Selma M. Geiger, 82, of Harbor Beach passed away Monday, March 10, 2003, at Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe under hospice care.  Born in Harbor Beach on April 18, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia (Kucharczyk) Lackowski.  On June 23, 1936, Selma and George Geiger were united in marriage in St.  Mary's Church in Parisville.  George preceded her in death on August  28, 2000.  Selma was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena.  She was a past member of the ladies Sodality Society.  She loved to visit with friends, playing cards, quilting and loving her grandchildren.

Margaret A. (Gerow) Goniwicha

Margaret A. "Peggy" Goniwicha, 77, of Harbor Beach, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw following a brief illness.   Born in Harbor Beach on July 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Clara (Schrott) Gerow.  On November 3, 1945, Peggy and Leo Goniwicha were united in marriage in Our Lady of Lake Huron Church in Harbor Beach.  He preceded her in death on December 11, 1992.  Peggy was a member of the Our Lady of Lake Huron Catholic Church in Harbor Beach and the Altar Society.  She enjoyed working in the yard with her flowers and being with her grandchildren and traveling with her family to the casino.   
 
Surviving are eight children, Judy Hazel and her husband, Dick, of Clio, Sharon Gallagher and her husband, Mike, of Birch Run, Diane Pleiness and her husband, Terry, of Harbor Beach, Lynda Neal and her husband, Dave, of Roscommon, Janice Hurren and her special friend, Tom, of Harbor Beach, David Goniwicha and his wife, Lori, of Laingsburg, Patrick Goniwicha, of Harbor Beach, and Connie Roggenbuck and her husband, Ken, of Harbor Beach; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marie McClure, of Phoenix, Arizona, Betty Brady, of Cassopolis, Dorothy O'Rourke, of Grand Blanc, and Pat Arntz, of Harbor Beach; and by several nieces and nephews.   Peggy was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly, in 1980 and a grandson, Brent, in 1999.   
 
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Our Lady of Lake Huron Church in Harbor Beach with Fr. T.J. Fleming, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.   A Parish Vigil service will take place at 7:30 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Harbor Beach.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the church.   Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House or the Kidney Foundation.

Daniel Harry Gorney

Daniel Harry Gorney, 67, of Bad Axe, died Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at home following a long illness.  Dan was born January 17, 1939 in Rapson to Harry and Irene (Talaski) Gorney.  He graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army.  Upon his discharge from the Army, he returned to Bad Axe where he lived his entire life.  Dan married Beverly Wehner on August 24, 1963 in Harbor Beach.  He enjoyed showing his 1978 Black Mercury Grand Marquis at local auto shows.  Dan also liked polka music, playing cards and attending air shows.  He was a farm equipment salesman and a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Bad Axe.   
 
In addition to his wife, Beverly, Dan is survived by six children: Denise (John) Kohr, of Pigeon, Nancy (Scott) Tanner, of Boon, Carolyn (Joe) Houle, of Rochester, Diane (Dave) Jammer, of Midland, Kelly (Mike)  Petrat, of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Keith (Celeste) Gorney, of Brooklyn; 14 grandchildren, Jessica and Jamie Kohr, Erin and Cole Tanner, Jordyn, Ryan and Daniel Houle, Adam Jammer, Nathan Petrat, Brooke, Kate and Trent Gorney, and Chase and Sydnie Harding; his mother, Irene Gorney; brothers, Arnold (Rose) Gorney and Ken Gorney; sister, Carl (Eric) Oman; and several nieces and nephews.   Dan was preceded in death by his father, Harry Gorney; sister, Janet Gorney; and brother, Gary Gorney.

Margaret (Alent) Grifka

Mrs.  Margaret "Margie" Grifka, 89, of Ubly passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.   Margie was born on May 12, 1918 in Parisville to the late Xavier and Laura (Trepkowski) Alent.   She married Sylvester Peruski on October 30, 1940 at St.  Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.   He preceded her in death on January 20, 1965.  She married Cass Grifka on May 21, 1966 at St.  Mary's in Parisville.   He preceded her in death on October 24, 2004.   Margie was a parishioner at St.  John Catholic Church in Ubly for 40 years where she was a member of the St.  John Christian Mothers Circle No.  4, Queen of Angels.   She was a member of the Rosary Sodality at St.  Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.   Margie was an avid card player, had a green thumb for gardening and enjoyed quilting, cooking, traveling around the country.   She loved people, especially her family and friends. 


Margie is survived by three sons: William Peruski and his wife, Jan, Robert Peruski and his wife, Connie, Thomas Peruski and his wife, Nancy, all of Ubly; ten grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; two brothers: David Alent and his wife, Mary Ann and Eugene Alent and his wife, Floy, both of Bad Axe; one sister, Helen Ulfig of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Rose Jaskowski and her husband, Ervin, of Minden City.   Margie was preceded in death by two brothers: Earl Alent and his wife, Meg and Chester Alent; one sister, Alma Peruski and her husband, Daniel. 


Funeral Mass will be at
11 a.m.  on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly.  Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Parisville.

Brian Joseph Gucwa

Brian Joseph Gucwa, of Lapeer, formerly of Ortonville, died July 13 in a car accident.  He was 43.  Brian was born April 30, 1965 in Pontiac to Joseph and Pauline (Peyerk) Gucwa. Brian owned and operated Oxford Brick Paving for nearly 15 years and enjoyed fishing, golfing, and his pets.  In death, Brian became a Gift of Life donor.
He is survived by his parents; siblings, Mary Jo (Gary) Hommel of Clarkston, Mark (Kim) of Mayville, Douglas of Lapeer, Renee (Dave) Sanders of Davisburg, and Christopher (Kim) of Clarkston; 12 nieces and nephews; and grandmother, Genevieve Peyerk of Filion.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary and Stanley Gucwa and Frank Peyerk.

Funeral services were held July 17 at the St. Louise Chapel of
Immaculate Conception Church, Metamora, Father Aaron Depeyster officiated. Memorial contributions may be made to Mass Cards, the Humane Society or the Metamora Lions Club.

Leon F. Guza

September 30, 1941 - January 18, 1999

Leon F. Guza, 57, of Parisville, died Friday, January IS, 1999, at his residence of an apparent heart attack.   He was born September.  30, 1941, in Ruth, the son of Leon E.  and Gertrude (Klama) Guza.   He married Lou Wanda Kipp January 8, 1972, at St.  Joseph Catholic Church of Rapson.   A graduate of Ubly High School in 1961, he farmed and worked at Midwest Rubber in Deckerville for years, and at Ubly Community Schools from 1979- 1981.   He also worked at the Ruth Tile Co.  and held various jobs in the area.   He was a parishioner of St.  Mary’s Church of Parisville. 

 

Surviving are 2 daughters: Jane Ann Sadro and her husband, David, and Theresa Hill and her husband, Dan, all of Bad Axe; 2 sons: Eugene Guza of Bad Axe, and Leon Guza and special friend, Sally Klemmer, of Port Austin; 3 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mary Ann Klee and Bertha Booms and her husband, Vincent, all of Harbor Beach, and Anna McIntosh and her husband, James, of Almont; and 12 nieces and nephews.  He was proceeded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, George Klee.  

 

Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, January 18 at St.  Mary’s Catholic Church of Parisville with the Rev.  Charles Harnmond, Pastor, officiating.   Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.   Memorials may be given to the family discretionary fund.   Arrangements wcre made by the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home.  Ubly.

Philip G. Guza

May 2, 1919March 4, 2009

Philip G.  Guza, 89, of Cass City passed away Wednesday morning, March 4, 2009.   He was born in Smith Corners on May 2, 1919, a son of John and Emma (Kapler) Guza.   On November 16, 1963 he married Honora Mary Markle in Warren.   Philip was a member of St.  Pancratius Church.   He proudly served with the U.S.  Army and was a master sergeant during World War II in the European Theater.   He was a member of VFW Post No.  3644, Cass City.   His hobbies included restoring vintage autos and he was a member of the Model A Club and of the Gas Engine Club.   He retired from Rinke Chevrolet in Centerline where he was an auto body specialist.   Surviving along with Mary, his loving wife of 45 years are a daughter, Catherine and her husband, Timothy Dingman of Holly; and grandchildren, Philip William Dingman and Timothy John Dingman.   Also surviving are his brothers, Raymond Guza of Oak Beach, John (Joy) living in Verona and Robert (Patricia) of Gagetown; and sisters, Emma Howard of Caseville and Mary (Paul) Grab of Cape Coral, Florida; and sister-in-law, Theresa Guza of Rapson.    Preceding him in death were brothers, Thomas in infancy, Jerome, Clair, and Frank; a sister, Virginia Crachiola and a brother-in-law, Robert Howard.   A memorial service will take place at a later date and will be announced by Gagetown Funeral Chapel.   Memorials may be directed to VFW Post No.  3644, Cass City.

Angeline Gwisdalla, 84, of Sterling Heights, formerly of Parisville, Michigan, died Monday, November 24, 2008, in her home.  She was born May 12, 1924, in Parisville.  Mrs. Gwisdalla is survived by her children, Thomas (Krystal) Gwisdalla, Patricia (Steven) McCombs, Marilyn (Loren) Malzahn and Annette Rinke; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer C. Gwisdalla, in July 1975.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 38750 Ryan, Sterling Heights, with the Rev. Jerome Slowinski officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Parisville.  Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. rosary recital, at Wm. Elmer Anthony Hessling
March 30, 1917 - November 17, 2000
Elmer A.  Hessling, 83, of Sherman Township near Helena, passed away Friday, November 17, 2000, in Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.   Elmer was born on March 30, 1917, in Sherman Township, son of the late Henry and Adelaide (Terbrack) Hessling.   He married Leona Geiger on August 6, 1941, in St.  Anthony's Church in Helena, and together they farmed in Sherman Township.   She preceded him in death on June 2, 1975.   He also married Ernestine Wolschlager Volmering on May 16, 1992, in Helena, and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1999.   Elmer was an active member of St.  Anthony's Catholic Church, being on the parish council and helping to build the school.   He was a member of the Men's Club and was an usher.  He was also an active member of the Township, having been a former Sherman Township Supervisor and Treasurer.   He also measured wheat for the ASCS office, and he was a former employee of the Booms Silo Co.   He enjoyed farming, gardening, hunting and fishing and a good game of cards.   
 
Surviving are his children, Austin Hessling and his wife, Jean, of Caro; Donna Klama and her husband, Cass, of Parisville; Richard Hessling and his wife, Nancy, of Harbor Beach; Warren Hessling and his wife, Sharon; of Sterling Heights, Mark Hessling of China Township; James Hessling and his wife, Charlotte, of Parisville; Kevin Hessling and his wife, Louise, of Harbor Beach; Bridget Brown and her husband, Doug, of Lexington, Kentucky; and Steve Hessling of Beacon, New York; 21 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Booms of Bad Axe and Kathleen Peruski of Ruth; many nieces and nephews.  Elmer was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Learman and infant Florence Hessling; and a grandson, Eric Hessling.   
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m.  on Tuesday, November  21, 2000, at St.  Anthony's Catholic Church in Helena with the Rev.  Charlie Hammond, pastor, officiating.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Genevieve Margaret (Terbrack) Innes

Genevieve Margaret Innes, 87, of Snover and formerly of Ruth, passed away Wednesday December 25, 2002, at her residence.  Genevieve was born August 11, 1915, in Ruth to the late Henry and Christina (Wolschleger) Terbrack.   She married Gordon Innes on July 13, 1963, at the Baptist Church of Cass City.  He preceded her in death on July 28, 1991.  Genevieve attended the Ss.  Peter and Paul Elementary School in Ruth.  She farmed some with her husband and was a homemaker.  She was an accomplished accordion player.  She loved her cat of fifteen years, Putsy.  She was a generous person and loved gardening and zinnias. 


Genevieve is survived by one daughter, Betty Mausolf and her husband, Robert, of
Harbor Beach; two sons, Alvin Messing Sr. of Ubly, Paul Messing and his special friend, Kathy, of Cass City; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren.  Genevieve was preceded in death by her daughter, Doris Goniwicha on July 2, 1996; three brothers, Laverne, Lawrence and James Terbrack. 

The funeral service for Genevieve Innes will be at 11 a.m.  on Saturday, December  28, 2002, at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home Chapel in Ubly.  Burial will be in the Moore Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m.  and 7 to 9 p.m.  tonight and from 10 a.m.  until the service on Saturday.

Laura R. (Osantowski) Jaskowski

Laura R. Jaskowski, 84, of Ubly, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Tendercare in Cass City.   She was born on June 6, 1920 in Parisville, daughter of the late Peter and Rosie (Czewski) Osantowski.   She married Arthur Jaskowski on September 2, 1939 in St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.   He preceded her in death on November 12, 1993.   She was a member of St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly where she had worked for several years. She was a member of St. John's Christian Mothers Circle One. She enjoyed embroidery and cooking for family and friends.  

 

She is survived by one son, Theodore Jaskowski and his wife, Norma, of Ossineke; three brothers, Martin Osantoski, of Bad Axe, Archie Osantoski and his wife, Marie, of Bad Axe, Peter Osantoski and his wife, Ella Mae, of Warren; four sisters, Susie Kociba, of Bad Axe, Virginia Partaka, of Harbor Beach, Martha Staniski, of Redford, Rose Schumacher, of Flint; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by six brothers, Roman, Theodore, Robert, Fabian, Adam, and James Osantoski; one sister, Minnie Nowiski; and one granddaughter.  

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Ubly. Officiating will be Fr. Joseph Griffin, pastor. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Parisville.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Kaufman Funeral Home in Bad Axe, and from 9 a.m. until the service time at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the church. A rosary by the St. John Christian Mothers will be offered on Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald W. Kirsch
May 21, 1936May 20, 2007
Donald W. Kirsch, 70, of Highland Township and a former resident of Milford, died after a two-year battle with cancer on Sunday, May 20, 2007, at Canterbury on the Lake in Waterford.   Born on May 21, 1936, the son of Wilbert and Margaret (nee Messing) Kirsch, Don grew up in Sand Beach before going to Detroit in 1956 to begin his work with Malloy Manufacturing.  In the early 1970s, he and numerous other stockholders from the company went westward to open Uniflow, an automotive fitting and special parts company in Novi. Don's children were raised in Troy and years after his divorce, he met Karen Reck in 1987 while polka dancing.  They later married on June 3, 1987 and have been dancing ever since that day.   Don enjoyed being active. His and Karen's love for polka dancing afforded them many memorable times while traveling to cities throughout Michigan or taking cruises abroad; enjoying the camaraderie with other polka dancers that in turn began many lasting friendships. Unforgettable memories were also shared during family deer hunting trips to Houghton, where Don kept a mobile home for the season.  Back home, he enjoyed gardening with his wife and was especially handy around the home.  He maintained and rented two condominiums in Royal Oak, also serving as chair on the board of directors with condominium management. After his retirement from Uniflow in 1998, Don began his work with his local parish - St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milford, assisting in the organization of the church's annual fair, helping with luncheon gatherings following funeral and memorial Masses and keeping up on the church's daily maintenance.  He was always friendly and welcoming to anyone who came through the church's doors needing a hand.  
 
In addition to his wife, Karen, he is survived by his children, Kathy (Jim) Brinker, Larry (Julie) Kirsch, Karen (Phil) Krason, Connie (Dave) McLaughlin, Dennis (Jan) Kirsch, Lisa (Kevin) Kasak; stepchildren, John (Christine) Strong, Barrett (Karen) Strong; 11 beloved grandchildren; brother, Richard (Linda) Kirsch; sisters, Delores (Ken) Arndt and Joyce (Ray) Puvalowski; many dear friends, fellow parishioners, colleagues and neighbors who join to mourn his passing while giving thanks to God for his life among them.   
 
A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1955 E. Commerce Road, Milford, with Fr. Ron Anderson officiating. Burial will be at the Christian Memorial

Margaret M. Kirsch, 85, of Harbor Beach died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Courtney Manor after a long illness.  She was born January 14, 1915, in Ruth to the late William and Mary (Emming) Messing. She married Wilbert A. Kirsch on August 31, 1935, at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church of Ruth.  He preceded her in death on July 22, 1993.   Margaret was a graduate of Sts. Peter & Paul Elementary School.  She farmed with her family and worked at Clements Manufacturing in Minden City, retiring in 1977.  She enjoyed gardening, sewing and family visits.  She was a former officer and honorary member of  St. Anthony's Altar Society.  She worked at the annual dinners for many years. 
 
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Delores Arndt and her husband, Kenneth, of Harbor Beach and Joyce Puvalowski and her husband, Raymond, of Ruth; two sons, Donald Kirsch and his wife, Karen, of Milford and Richard Kirsch and his wife, Linda, of Harbor Beach; one daughter-in-law, Linda Kirsch; one son-in-law, Eugene Gosdzinski; four brothers, Robert Messing of Harbor Beach, Norman Messing and his wife, Eleanor, of Bad Axe, James Messing and his wife, Ula-Rae, of Spring Hill, Florida, Clem Messing and his wife, Donna, 
of Ruth; three sisters, Cecelia Van Dalen of Sandusky, Mary Essenmacher of Harbor Beach, Gladys Priemer of Ruth; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth; one daughter, Marlene Gosdzinski; two brothers, Wilfred and Charles Messing; two grandchildren; two sisters, Genevieve Kosal and an infant baby.

John Andrew Koroleski Sr., 56, of Filion died Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.  He was born May 31, 1944, in Kinde.  He was the son of the late Raymond and Gertrude (Wisneski) Koroleski.  He was a 1963 graduate of Kinde High School.  Mr. John Koroleski and Miss Margaret Pyrek were married on February 15, 1969, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dwight.  John worked at Active Industries, Inc., as a hi-lo driver for some 32 years before retiring in February 1999.  He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, playing cards, especially euchre, polka music and spending time with his grandchildren.  
 
Surviving are his wife, Margaret, of Filion; three sons, Raymond Koroleski of Standish, John Koroleski Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Port Austin and Richard Koroleski of Filion and his fiancée, Kristie Szymanski; two daughters, Joann Toner and her husband, Greg, of Filion and Marie Koroleski of Bad Axe and her fiancée, Roy Solis; five grandchildren, Raymond Toner, Thomas Toner, Jason Clancy, Stacey Clancy and Dana Clancy; one brother, Gerald Koroleski of Bad Axe; three sisters, Marie Kozlowski and her husband, Earl, of Kinde, Gloria Lasceski and her husband, Sal, of Centerline and Connie Ornowski and her husband, Jim, of Filion; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rita and Joann Koroleski.

Richard (Dick) Kosal, 54, of Peck died Monday, December 13, 1999, at his home.  He was born on May 22, 1945, in Palms, the son of the late Michael and Genevieve (Messing) Kosal.  
 
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; two sons, Charles Kosal and his wife, Jennifer, of Fraser and Jeffrey Kosal of Port Huron; mother-in-law, Virginia Johnston of  Port Huron; four brothers, Raymond Kosal and his wife, Barbara, of Commerce Township, James Kosal and his wife, Nancy, of Ionia, Robert Kosal and his wife, JoAnn, of Minden City and Edward Kosal and his wife, Marsha, of Palms; three sisters, Rose Shubitowski and her husband, Anthony, of Clinton Township, Mary Ellen Leppek and her husband, Jerome, of Bay City and Gail Mroz and her husband, John, of Warren.  
 
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 17, 1999, at the Sandusky Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating. Burial was in the Elk Township Cemetery in Peck. Pallbearers were John, Dennis and Ronald Shubitowski, Michael, Kevin and Brian Kosal and Roger Leppek.

Linda L. (Tough) Kramer

September 2, 1946January 5, 2009

Mrs. Linda L. Kramer, 61, of Harbor Beach died Saturday, January 5, 2008 at her residence under hospice care.  She was born September 2, 1946 in Bad Axe, daughter of the late Howard and Stella (Clark) Tough.  She married Merlin Kramer on October 7, 1967 at St. John Catholic Church in Ubly.  Linda was a graduate of Ubly High School and attended Central Michigan University for one year.  She worked for Excello Corporation in Highland Park.  She lived in the Detroit area for 10 years and then in Ortonville for 25 years.  She was a former parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Ortonville where she had been a member of the Parish Council and was a current parishioner at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth.  Mrs. Kramer did reupholstering for many years and owned Kramer Custom Upholstery for 20 years.  She enjoyed painting, her grandchildren, friends and polka dancing.


She is survived by her husband, Merlin Kramer of Harbor Beach; one son, Michael Kramer and his wife, Victoria, of Shelby Township; one daughter, Cindy Franco and her husband, René; grandchildren, Veronica and Emmalee Kramer and Wesley Franco; step-grandchildren, Mike Statly and Alex Franco; two sisters, Becky Ryan of Scottsdale, Arizona, Julia Heilig Dutcher and her husband, Allan, of Ubly; step-mother, Ann Richardson of Bad Axe; mother-in-law, Mary Kramer of Harbor Beach.  She was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Howard David Tough and Thomas Tough.


Funeral Mass for Mrs. Kramer will be at
11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ruth. The Rev. Robert Pare, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly, and from 10 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday.  There will be a parish vigil service at 4 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Robert Pare at the funeral home.

Magdalain Mary (Messing ) Kranz
August 25, 1911December 25, 2004
Magdalain Mary Kranz, 93, of Colfax Township, passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2004, at her residence.   She was born August 25, 1911 to the late Henry and Helen Messing in Helena.   Magdalain Messing and George Kranz were united in marriage on June 13, 1932 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Helena. George preceded her in death on June 22, 1986.   She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe.  She was a member of the "50 and Over Club" at Sacred Heart. Magdalain farmed with her husband and lived on the farm in Colfax Township for 60 years.  She loved playing cards, bingo, gardening, attending the meal site and visiting with her family and friends.   
 
She is survived by four sons, Wayne Kranz and his wife, Janet, of Bad Axe, Richard Kranz, of Jean, Nevada, Alvin Kranz and his special friend, Ann, of Aquanga, California, and Kenneth Kranz and his wife, Jean, of Bad Axe; two daughters, Rita Essenmacher, of Carsonville, and Marlene Smithers and her husband, Robert, of Bad Axe; 15 grandchildren, Valeria Kreher, Marilyn Kettenstock, Lonnie Kranz, Jessica Kranz, Nicki Kranz, Theresa Wright, Kris Kranz, Brenda Nelson, Denise Place, Amy Keillor, Keith Essenmacher, Lynnette Essenmacher, Lesa Ellicott, Dana Smithers, and Darren Smithers; 21 great-grandchildren, Brandon Kreher, Chandler Wright, Hazel Wright, Hanna Wright, Magdalain Kranz, Victor Kranz, Adam Nelson, Eric Nelson, Alex Nelson, Andrew Place, Sean Place, Emily Keillor, Erica Keillor, Lindsey Ellicott, Sarah Ellicott, Elizabeth Essenmacher, Jennifer Essenmacher, Jeremy Smithers, Kaitlyn Smithers, Nicholas Smithers, and Blake Smithers; two brothers, Andrew Messing, and Leonard Messing and his wife, Theresa, all of Bad Axe; two sisters, Dorothy Roggenbuck, of Helena, and Anna Essenmacher, of Bad Axe.   She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Kranz; one son-in-law, Alvin Essenmacher; one granddaughter, Margie Essenmacher; four brothers, Leo Messing, Walter Messing, Arthur Messing and Laurence Messing; four sisters, Cora Clor, Helen Kirsh, Eleanor Adler and Irene Samulski.   
 
Burial will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Helena.

Clarence P. Kubacki

Clarence P. Kubacki, 77, of Parisville, passed away Friday, March 2, 2007, at his residence.   Clarence was born March 30, 1929 in Ubly to the late Aloysius and Lucy (Smaglinski) Kubacki.   He married Beatrice Susalla on October 14, 1950 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville.   Clarence was a graduate of the Bingham Country School and a 1948 graduate of Ubly High School.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.  He was a member of the Zurek-Graham VFW Post No. 6965.  He was a machine operator for Lasky Construction from 1949 to 1990.  He was employed at the Bushey Tile Company from 1990 to 2003.  He also farmed in Paris Township.  Clarence was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church all his life where he was a member of St. Mary's Men's Club and the choir since 1973.  He enjoyed playing his harmonica and 
accordion, polka dances, Michigan football, Tiger baseball and disassembling barns and houses.   
 
Clarence is survived by his wife, Beatrice, of Parisville; four daughters, Sharon Bukoski and her husband, Charles, of Davisburg, Bonnie Braun and her husband, Thomas, of Caro, Jean Samons and her husband, Ralph, of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Karen Pichla and her husband, Kenneth, of Bad Axe; two sons, Gerard Kubacki and his wife, Charlene, of Ubly, and Joseph Kubacki and his wife, Janice, of Chesterfield; 17 grandchildren, Jessica, Jill, and Jodi Bukoski, Jason Braun, Mike (Katie) Braun, Greg (Becky) Braun, Amanda and Bryan Samons, Carrie Pichla and fiancé Ryan Nelson, Eric, Grant and Sheila Pichla, Jackie, Jeremy, Kayla, Nicole and Kurt Kubacki; one step granddaughter, Vanessa Karges; one great granddaughter, Jalyn Braun; five sisters, Rita Helewski of Ubly, Mary Ann (Eugene) Wisneski, of Bad Axe, Mildred (Eugene) Lamke, of Parisville, Florence "Pat" (Lawrence) Vogel, of Minden City, and Rose Mary (Tom) Wisneski, of Warren; four brothers, Irvin (Marie) Kubacki, Stanley (Margaret) Kubacki, Aloysius Jr. (Joan), Bernard (Pauline) Kubacki, all of Bad Axe; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marie Susalla, Frances (Izzy) Koceba, Irene (Gordon) Eden, Agnes (Eugene) Gorkowski, Patricia (Herb) Vogel, Jake (Evelyn) Susalla; and 87 nieces and nephews. Clarence was preceded in death by one infant son; one sister, Helen Kubacki; brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley Helewski, Paul and Theresa Skipinski, Frank and Eleanor Talaski, Bill and Martha Susalla, Art Susalla.   
 
A Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Parisville with military honors. The Rev. Jerzy Dobosz, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home. There will be a parish vigil service at 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Irwin E.  Kubacki

February 12, 1926October 22, 2009

Mr.  Irwin E.  Kubacki, 83, of Bad Axe, passed away Thursday, October  22, 2009 at Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.   He was born February 12, 1926 in Parisville to the late Aloysius and Lucy (Smaglinski) Kubacki.   He married Marie T.  Wolschleger October 12, 1949 at St.  Anthony Catholic Church in Helena.   Irwin was a graduate of the Kelly School Bingham No.  1.   He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S.  Army in the Pacific Theatre from March 1945 to December 1946.   Irwin farmed most of his life, retiring in 1986.   He also was employed at Active Industries from 1954 until he retired in 1988.   He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe.   He was a life member of the Bad Axe VFW Post No.  116.   He liked to listen to country and polka music.   He was a compassionate man and truly enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

 

Irwin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie of Bad Axe; one son, Allen, at home; four sisters: Mary Ann Wisneski and her husband, Eugene, of Bad Axe; Mildred Lamke and her husband, Eugene, of Parisville; Florence “Pat” Vogel and her husband, Lawrence, of Minden City; Rose Mary Wisneski and her husband, Thomas of Bad Axe; three brothers: Stanley Kubacki and his wife, Margaret; Aloysius Jr.  “Rufus” Kubacki and his wife, Joann; Bernard Kubacki and his wife, Pauline, all of Bad Axe; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Kubacki of Ruth; many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Kubacki and Rita Helewski, one brother, Clarence Kubacki.  

 

Funeral Mass was conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, October  26, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bad Axe.  Fr.  Robert Howe officiated, with burial in the church cemetery with military honors.

Gertrude Marie (Smaglinski) Lawrence  
June 6, 1928 – June 16, 2007
Gertrude Marie Lawrence, 79, of Saginaw, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed into the arms of our Father on Saturday June 16, 2007, at Saint Mary's Hospital, Saginaw.  Daughter of the late Peter and Rose (Kubacki) Smaglinski, Gert was born June 6, 1928 in Harbor Beach.  She was raised on the Smaglinski farm with her sisters, Edwina, Ernestine, Helen, and Theresa, as well as brothers Peter, Bernard, Anthony, Joseph, 
Floyd and Valentine.  She left the farm at age 14 to provide nanny assistance to a family from her church.  She remained in Huron County and was crowned the Huron County Bean Queen in the early '50s.  In 1954, she worked with Francis Lawrence at Fran's Restaurant in Bad Axe, and later met Francis' son, William John Lawrence, who became the love of her life and the two became one on April 16, 1955.  They resided in Bad Axe, 
Redford Township, and in 1960, they settled in Saginaw Township where they have lived to this date.  Gert held many jobs over the years in Bad Axe; Fran's, Buckhead Bar, Saginaw; Rolling Green, Saginaw Schools and the most important job which she loved till her last breath, "Mom".  In Saginaw, they raised John Michael, Patricia Ann, Joseph Alan and Richard James.  She has been a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church since 1960 and participated in the Altar Society and the PTA as well as other church and school related activities.  She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4232 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Seniors Club.  Over the years, she loved snowmobiling, boating, bowling and supporting her children in the many sports and activities in which they participated. 
 
Surviving besides her loving husband William John, are three sons and one daughter, John (Sandi) Lawrence, of Chicago, Pat (Bill) Meyers, of Saginaw, Joe (Jeanne) Lawrence, of Saginaw, Rick (Chris) Lawrence, of Rockford; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; her sisters, Edwina Lackowski, Ernestine (Irwin) Romzek, Theresa (Robert) McElgunn, and brother, Bernard (Susan) Smaglinski.  Gert was preceded in death by her sister, Helen; brothers, Peter, Anthony, Joseph, Floyd, and Valentine, and brothers-in-law, Ed (Edwina) Lackowski and Ed (Helen) Monzo.   
 
A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  The Rev. Fr. Leonard Stunek, O.F.M., will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty) in Saginaw, and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church.  The Knights of Columbus Council No. 4232 Ladies Auxiliary will pray the Rosary at 3 p.m. today and a Vigil Service will take place at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Holy Cross Children's Services, 8759 Clinton-Macon Road, Clinton, Michigan 49236 or St. Thomas Aquinas School.

John Stanley Learman
December 15, 1947 – June 3, 2007
John S. Learman, 59, of Harbor Beach, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Harbor Beach Community Hospital.   He was born December 15, 1947 to Evelyn (Terbrack) and the late Arthur Learman.  John married Ilene Kociba on November 8, 1969 at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Kinde.  He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, St. Anthony's Men's Club and also an usher.  
 
John is survived by his wife, Ilene, of Harbor Beach; seven sons, Paul Learman and his wife, Tina, of Harbor Beach, Gary Learman and his special friend, Sue, of Ubly, John Learman and his wife, Jenny, of Harbor Beach, Rick Learman, of Harbor Beach, Matthew Learman and his special friend, Jenny, of Harbor Beach, Eric Learman, of Harbor Beach, and Darrin Learman and his special friend, Kristie, of Harbor Beach; six daughters, Mary Jo Seltz and her husband, Russell, of Harbor Beach, Nancy Learman, of Troy, Janice Learman and her husband, Josh, of Bad Axe, Deanna Learman and her special friend, Jose, of Berkley, Renee Learman and her special friend, Rob, of Ruth, and Sandy Learman and her special friend, Jeff, of Port Austin; 15 grandchildren; his mother, Evelyn; two sisters, Marie (Ed) Holdwick, of Harbor Beach, Theresa (Harold) Holdwick, of Bad Axe; and two brothers, Edward (Mary Ann) Learman, of Oscoda, and Frederick Learman and his special friend, Sally, of Three Rivers.   He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Learman; and one son, James Learman in 1996.   
A Funeral Mass for John will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Helena. Fr. Jerzy Dobosz will officiate.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.   Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday in the Ramsey Funeral Home of Harbor Beach. Ernest Vincent Makowski
July 26, 1928 – November 26, 2001
Mr. Ernest Vincent Makowski, 73, of Center Line passed away Monday, November 26, 2001, at St. John's Macomb Hospital of Warren.  He was born July 26, 1928, in Harbor Beach to the late Vincent and Josephine (Wisneski) Makowski.  He married Lorraine Gosdzinski on September 17, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville.  Ernest was a graduate of  the Ulfig Country School.  He sailed on the Great Lakes for the Pittsburgh Steamship Co. before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After he married, he moved to Center Line to work at the Stroh's Brewery Co., retiring in 1985.  He was a parishioner of St. Clement's Catholic Church of Center Line and a member of the Veterans of Foreign 
War Post No. 6756 of Center Line.  He enjoyed gardening and playing euchre with family and friends.  
 
Ernest is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Center Line; two sons, Ronald Makowski and his wife, Sandy, and Steven Makowski, both of Center Line; one daughter, Sharon Braun and her husband, Doug, of Macomb Township; five grandchildren, Eric and Paul Makowski, and Curtis, Jackie and Ryan Braun; one brother, Alfred Makowski of Pensacola, Florida; one sister, Margie Majeski and her husband, Alfred, of St. Clair; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Makowski.  
 
The funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Parisville.  The Rev. Charles Hammond, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery with graveside military honors.  Visitation will be 1 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Zinger-Smigielski Funeral Home in Ubly

 

 

Lester Donald McIntosh

January 4, 1924 – November 2, 2008

Lester D. McIntosh, of Holt was born in Ivanhoe on January 4, 1924, son of Dan and Bertha (Porsche) McIntosh and passed away November 2, 2008 at Ingham Regional Medical Center.  He was surrounded by Helen, his devoted wife of 61 years, all of his children and Fr. John Byers.

Lester graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1941 and served in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He operated a television repair shop and worked at General Motors, Chrysler and Silverstein’s before starting his long career at the General Electric Company, retiring as District Service Manager for the Lansing area in 1985.  He spent much of his post retirement years delivering food to the hungry.  Lester was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, IHM Council 10542, Prime Timers advocate, Social Minister Representative, Eucharist Minister, Adoration Chapel helper, Rosary Maker, DeWitt Retreat House helper and a 3rd Order of St. Francis.  He was an excellent handyman, always ready and willing to work on anybody’s project, anywhere.  His fantastic sense of humor and great-giving heart will be missed by all.

 

He married Helen C. Wolschlager on January 18, 1947, who survives him, along with daughters, Joan (Bruce) Hughes, Cecilia (Patrick) Stanley, Mary (Terry) Adams; sons, James (Anna) McIntosh, Joseph (Karen) McIntosh, Raymond (Amy) McIntosh; daughter-in-law, Barbara McIntosh; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Eugene (Irene) McIntosh; sisters, Vera (Jay) Burns and Violet (Calvin) Brown.

He was preceded in death by four sisters; two brothers; a daughter, Florence McIntosh; sons, Donald and John McIntosh; grandson, Bruce Hughes; and, great-granddaughter, Jade McIntosh.

 

Funeral Mass will be conducted on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar, Lansing with the Rev Fr. John A. Byers as celebrant.  Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Cemetery (Sheridan Church), Ubly.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel with a Scriptural Rosary at 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions, in memory of Lester McIntosh, may be made to The Knights of Columbus, IHM Council 10542.

 

 

 

 

 
Edward Monzo

Edward Monzo, 78, of Annapolis, Maryland died Friday, June 29, 2001 of cancer at his home.  Mr. Monzo was born April 14, 1923 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He served in the Navy during World War II.  He retired from Union Carbide Corp. in 1991.  He married Helen Rose Smaglinski on June 29, 1957 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parisville.  She died December 11, 1994.  
 
Edward is survived by: one son, Chris and his wife, Tracy; two daughters, Nancy Weiss and her husband, Stewart, all of Annapolis, Maryland and Mary Ellen Thorp of Alexandria, Virginia; four grandchildren, Frank IV and Britney Thorp, Adam Weiss, and Madelyn Monzo; four sisters-in-law, Edwina Lackowski of Bad Axe; Ernestine Romzek and her husband, Irvin, of Ruth; Gertrude Lawrence and her husband, John, of Saginaw; Theresa McElgunn and her husband, Robert, of Emmet; one brother-in-law, Bernard Smaglinski and his wife, Susan, of Harbor Beach.  
 
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the John Taylor Funeral Chapel in Annapolis. Cremation followed the service. Interment will be private.
