Branch County is located on the southern boundary of the lower peninsula, bordered by Indiana. It was named after John Branch, then Secretary of the Navy under President Andrew Johnson. The county seat is Coldwater, presently the county's largest city.
Today, Branch County remains primarily a rural, agricultural area. This is a sportsman's paradise with wonderful hunting and over 100 lakes for fishing opportunities. The Coldwater chain of lakes is known far and wide for its recreational and fishing opportunities.
