Richard Currier Died Feb. 15m 1837 Age 63 yrs.

Richard Currier, son of Thomas Currier and Dorothy _____, was born 7 December 1773 in Southhampton, Rockingham, New Hampshire. He was married on 20 February 1799 in Sedgwick, to Abigail Eaton, daughter of Reverend Ebenezer Eaton and Abigail Herrick. Abigail was born 28 January 1781 in Sedgwick. She died 13 June 1870 and is buried beside her husband in the Sedgwick Rural Cemetery.

Richard and his brother, Nathaniel Currier, moved to Sedgwick before 1797. On 11 November 1797, Richard purchased land from his future father-in-law, on which there was already a small home. It was located on the Reach Road, between Sedgwick Village and Sargentville. He then built the home known today as Reach View, which is still owned by his direct descendants. He was a farmer. For more information about Richard Currier, see Descedants of Richard Currier of Sedgwick, Maine: A Family Photo Album by Xana Arango Hansen,

Richard and Abigail were the parents of three children:

1. Thomas Currier was born 21 September 1799 in Sedgwick.

2. Richard Currier was born 25 September 1801. He died 29 September 1859 in Sedgwick. He was married on 1 August 1825 in Blue Hill to Lois Herrick, daughter of Joseph Herrick and Betty Trussell. Lois was born 14 August 1802 in Sedgwick. She died 15 May 1873. Both Lois and Richard are buried in the Sedgwick Rural Cemetery.
Richard served as one of three selectmen for the years 1833, 1835-1837, and 1847. He also served as town treasurer for the years 1844-1845, and 1848-1849.

3. Ebenezer E. Currier was born 19 January 1804 in Sedgwick and died 31 December 1883. There is an inscription for him on the same monument as his father and mother, and grandfather, Rev. Ebenezer Eaton. By the terms of his father's will, Ebenezer inherited the family home and cared for his aging mother. After the house was struck by lightning in 1854, he rebuilt and expanded the home into the two-story structure that it is today.

"He was called Eben Ira. He used to jump up in the morning and shoot off his gun." (Jane Parker Grant.)
