Bingham - Nov. 28 - (Special) - Benjamin F. Adams, 82, one of the best known citizens in this vicinity, died suddenly this morning. Retiring in apparent good health Tuesday night, he arose this morning and was dressing when seized with an attack of illness and died two hours later.

Mr Adams was a barber in this town for 56 years and five months, selling his business this year, and retiring on Sept. 8.

Born in Calais, Sept 11, 1863, he went to North Anson early in life and took up the barber trade. He came to Bingham in March, 1889, to open his own shop. His customers have come from all directions, he being perticularly [sic] well patronized by railroad men when the town was active on the line.

His generosity endeared him to all and he had a part in all activities of a charitable nature in the place. His hobby was the collection of oddities of nature in rock and wood, gathered by himself or contributed by friends who knew his interest. He had collected many relics, such as steins, knives, swords and old lanterns.

On Feb. 10, 1941, a large group of citizens of every race and creed in Bingham, gathered to give him a surprise party on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as a business man.

His wife was Juliette Goodrich of Bingham, who died nine years ago. His death came upon his wife's birthday. Since the death of Mrs. Goodrich, he has made his home at the residence of Miss Florence Murray.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Barney of Worcester, Vt. and several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Adams was actively interested in Masonry, being a member of Bingham lodge, chapter and council, and Eastern Star and belonged to DeMolay commandery, Knights Templar, of Skowhegan.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Congregational church in Bingham. Burial will be in the Bingham cemetery. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Arthur S. Macdougal. [sic]

Mrs. Juliet Goodrich Adams

The death of Mrs. Juliet Goodrich Adams, wife of Benjamin F. Adams, occurred Sunday afternoon at her home on Main street where she was born and always lived. She had been in impaired health for some time but the last week's illness and her death came as an unexpected shock to her many friends.

She was the daughter of Simeon and Lorena Chapman Goodrich. Her father was one of the earlier merchants of the town. She was a charter member of Bingham Chapter, O.E.S. and its first conductress. She was a past president of Bingham Sunshine Society and always an active member. She was interested in all good works in the community. Beside her husband she is survived by several cousins. Funeral services were held from her home Tuesday afternoon, with many friends from out of town attending, and Rev. Arthur MacDougall, Jr. of the Congregational church officiating.
