Biographical Note

According to the GENERAL CATALOGUE OF THE NEWTON THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTION, 1826-1943, Allison Mason Watts was born in Tenants Harbor, Maine on June 1, 1878. He graduated from Colby College in 1903. He served as a teacher in Craftsbury, Vermont from 1903-1904. He earned his Bachelor of Divinity from the then Newton Theological Institution in 1907. He was ordained in West Brattleboro, Vermont on January 2, 1908.

He served as pastor of the West Brattleboro Baptist Church from December 1907 to June 1909; the Johnson (Vermont) Baptist Church from July 1909-April 1911; the North Haven (Maine) Baptist Church from May 1911-October 1913; the Woodland (Maine) Baptist Church from December 1913-November 1914; the Rumney (New Hampshire) Baptist Church from December 1914-November 1917; the Dixville (Quebec) and Norton (Vermont) Baptist Churches from December 1917-October 1922; the Federated Church of Westford, Vermont from November 1922-May 1936; and, the Jamaica (Vermont) Baptist Church beginning in April 1936. He was still serving the Jamaica church when the GENERAL CATALOGUE was published in 1943.

Your inquiry regarding Allison M. Watts (Newton Theological Institution class of 1907) has been referred to me for reply. We have the following file information which updates the 1943 general catalog:

1936-1946 pastor, Jamaica (VT) Federated Church
1946-1953 pastor, North Danville (VT) Baptist Church

There is a file note which indicates that Watts died July 27, 1969. The notification of his death came from his daughter, Harriet Watts, of Chester, VT. There is no information on the place of his death or burial. The 1968 Vermont directory of retired pastors lists his residence as Chester, VT.
