Coast Guards Battalion

This organization, composed of seven Companies of Infantry, was organized at Belfast, Augusta and Eastport, Me. as follows:

Company A, (Capt. Charles Baker,) was mustered into the U. S. service at Belfast, Me., March 28th, 1864, to serve three years. The company left for Washington, D. C., on the 2d of May, 1864, and immediately upon its arrival at that place was assigned to garrison Fort Washington, Md., which it occupied until May, 1865, when it was ordered to Maine. On the 25th of May, 1865, the company was mustered out of the U. S. service at Portland, Me., by Capt. C. Holmes, U. S. A., in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company B, (Capt. Oliver J. Conant,) was mustered into the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., April 27th, 1864, to serve three years. The company left Rockland, Me., Mat 5th, 1864, for Washington, D. C., and immediately upon its arrival it was stationed at Fort Fort Foote, Md. It remained in that position until June, 1865, when it was ordered to Maine, and on the 24th of June was mustered out of the U. S. service at Portland, Me., by Capt. C. Holmes, U. S. A., in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company C, (Capt. Thomas P. Hutchinson,) was mustered into the U. S. service at Eastport, Me., May 16th, 1864, to serve three years, and was stationed at Fort Sullivan, Me. It was mustered out of the U. S. service Sept. 6th, 1865, at Portland, Me., by Capt. C. Holmes, U. S. A., in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company D, (Capt. Charles F. King,) mustered into the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., Jan. 6th, 1865, to serve one, two and three years, was stationed at Machiasport, Me., and was mustered out of the U. S. service Sept. 6th, 1865, at Portland, Me., by Capt. C. Holmes, U. S. A., in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company E, (Capt. James L. Hunt,) mustered into the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., Jan. 7th, 1865, to serve one, two and three years, was stationed at Rockland, Me., and was mustered out of the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., July 7th, 1865, by Capt. W. G. Rankin, 13th U. S. Infantry, in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company F, (Capt. Charles F. Conant,) mustered into the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., Jan. 6th, 1865, to serve one year, was stationed at Belfast, Me., and was mustered out of the U. S. service July 7th, 1865, at Augusta, Me., by Capt. W. G. Rankin, 13th U. S. Infantry, in accordance with orders from the War Department.

Company G, (Capt. Winslow Roberts,) mustered into the U. S. service March 1st, 1865, to serve one year, was stationed at Augusta, Me., and afterwards at Calais, Me. It was mustered out of the U. S. service at Augusta, Me., July 6th, 1865, by Capt. W. G. Rankin, 13th U. S. Infantry, in accordance with orders from the War Department.
