Coast Guards Artillery

This organization, composed of three companies, (A, B and C,) commenced to organize in July, 1861, to serve three years as garrison artillery in the State, and were stationed as follows: Company A, at Fort McClary, Kittery, relieving Capt. M. F. Wentworth's Company of Artillery, which had been doing duty at that place since April 30th, 1861; Company B, at Portland, Me., occupying Fort Scammel; and Company C, at Eastport, Me., garrisoning Fort Sullivan. They occupied their several stations until the 13th of September, 1862, when, in accordance with orders from the War Department, they were mustered out and discharged the U. S. service.
