This Regiment was organized at Bangor, Me., Oct. 11th, 1862, to serve nine months, and left on the 23d of the same month for Washington, D. C., where they arrived and encamped on the 27th.

On the 9th of November they embarked for Fortress Monroe, Va., arrived at Hampton Roads on the 11th, and the next day were ordered to Newport News, where they remained encamped until December 1st, on which day they embarked on board steamers for New Orleans, arriving in that city on the 16th, and immediately proceeded to Baton Rouge, where they were assigned to the 3d Brigade of Grover's Division.

They remained at Baton Rouge until the 12th of March, 1863, when they joined in the reconnoissance to Fort Hudson, returning on the 16th, and on the 28th embarked for Donaldsonville, La.

Early on the morning of the 14th of April they were engaged with the enemy at Irish Bend, near Franklin, La., and met with severe loss.

They arrived at Port Hudson on the 30th of May, and were engaged in supporting a battery until June 12th, when they participated in the assault on that day, and then returned to their former position.

After the surrender of Port Hudson, they remained on duty inside the fortifications at that place until the 26th of July, on which day they embarked for Maine, and reached Bangor on the 9th of August. On the 17th of the same month the regiment was mustered out of the U. S. service at that place, by Lieut. F. E. Crossman, 17th U. S. Infantry, and the men paid and finally discharged the same day.
