First Maine Regiment Infantry

Was organized April 28th, 1861, and mustered into the U. S. service at Portland, Me., May 3d, to serve three months.

On the 1st day of June it left for Washington, where it encamped on Meridian Hill, and there remained in the performance of necessary guard duty at exposed points till August 1st, when it left for Portland, Me., where it was mustered out of the U. S. service, Aug. 5th by Capt. Thomas Hight, 2d U. S. Dragoons.
