ABOUT US

Excerpt from Constitution and Bylaws

Section 1: The purpose of this organization shall be to maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries; to encourage youth and young adults to develop that interest; to focus public attention on the library; to stimulate the use of the library's resources and services; to receive and encourage gifts and bequests to the library; to recruit volunteers; and to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities for the community.

Section 2: The Friends of the Oxon Hill Library is established exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, including, the making of distributions to the Prince George's County Memorial Library System that qualifies as an exempt organization under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Services Code (or the corresponding provision of any future United States Internal Revenue Law).

Section 3: No part of the net earnings of the organization shall benefit, or be distributable to its directors, members, officers, or other private persons, except that the organization shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered, and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth in Article II, Sections 1 and 2 above.

No substantial part of the activities of the organization shall be used to promote propaganda, attempt to influence legislation, participate or intervene in ( including the publishing or distribution of statements), any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.
