Baptisms, births, marriages, and deaths
Civil registration of births, marriages, and deaths (also known as Vital Statistics) began in Manitoba in 1882. Before that local church records are the best source of information. Churches recorded baptisms, but not births. The denomination must be known for church registrations of baptisms, marriages, and deaths. Parish, diocese, or mission district should be known as well.
In addition to civil registrations, this agency has some incomplete church records prior to 1882. They will be searched only when the denomination is known.
