In his later years, John lived with his daughter, Anne, and her husband Kenneth, in Miles City, Custer County, Montana.

John married Rose McFARLAND. (Rose McFARLAND was born in Scotland ⁸¹¹ and died circa 1868-1878 ⁸¹¹.)
