22. GREEN BERRY GARNER was born on 5 Dec 1829 in
Union District, S.C.. He died on 8 Nov 1914 in Shreveport, La.. He was buried in Old Castor Cem, Castor, La.(no marker) He was married to ELIZABETH JANE DILDY, LIC 4 DEC 1850, in Gwinnett County, Ga..
The following was told to me by Ed Rowell, Green Berry's Grandson, in 1973.
"I was told growing up that Green left home as a teenager after accidently killing a man. Thinking he would be hung for murder, he lit out and never returned. Somewhere near Stone Mountain GA. he met and married ELIZABETH JANE DILDIE/DILDY (5 Dec. 1850). She was b. 8 Mar. 1837 near Stone Mountain Ga. He served in the Civil War from GA., somewhere around 1868 they decided to move to Texas. Coming to New Orleans by boat, Elizabeth became sick and plans were changed. They took a boat up the Mississippi and Red Rivers to Coushatta, La. They soon settled in Bienville Parish near the town of Bienville."
Their descendants still live here, in and around Shreveport, La. Both Elizabeth and Green died and are buried at Castor, La.
