Churches and Religious History

Middlefield Church was gathered Nov. 18, 1783, possibly as a Presbyterian society, which it may have remained until 1792; there are no records before that date. The Society was incorporated the same year; the church received its incorporation in 1892. By 1792 it was the Middlefield Congregational Church (Richard H. Taylor, The Churches of Christ of the Congregational Way in New England, Benton Harbor, MI, 1989).
The church's first minister was Rev. Jonathan Nash (ord. 1792, left 1832, d. 1834). Early deacons included Danial Mack (d. 1845), Job Robbins (d. 1828) and Daniel Chapman (mentioned 1794).
