Chicopee Cemeteries Notes: The earliest cemetery was established at the foot of Elm Street in Springfield.
The "Old Burying Ground" was Chicopee's colonial cemetery on Chicopee Street (where all the Chapins are buried) -- first buried there was Miss Sarah Hitchcock in 1741.

Notes on Ashley Cemetery, above: I obtained this listing with an indication it was in Chicopee, although it is clearly located in West Springfield.
Also have heard it called "Ashleyville Cemetery" and due to its location, I suspect it may have some close ties to
Holyoke, especially considering the name Ashley and the number of early Holyokers with the same surname. This is my personal
thought only and is unverified. This listing also appears under the West Springfield cemetery listings.

Burials began ca. 1910 and for several years they buried babies in an unmarked area fronting School House Road. Today there are a clump of tombstones marking baby graves, but many more infants and toddlers are buried in that area than is obvious. The church has the records of these burials nonetheless.
St. George Church (first known as St. Joachim) in Chicopee Falls, Maple Street, uses St. Rose de Lima cemetery as they both serve the French Catholic population.
