wounds received from British officer on battle field.

Padelford, Zachariah
At South Adams, 7th inst. Mr. Zachariah Pedelford. Born 15 June
1754 at Taunton. Soldier of revolution; pensioner. First called
into active service at Boston under Captain King. Later served in
New York; was at battle of White Plains. Left service in 1777; sailed
from Boston on privateer HANCOCK, Captain Manley. The "HANCOCK"
having captured a prize, Mr. Padelford was one of the prize crew
places aboard to take it into French West Indies. Overhauled by
British ship. He and Another man (from Boston) jumped overboard
and swam ashore, Taken to the house of Governor who assisted them
to get to American Vessel in Harbor of St. Pierrs. Shipped for Boston.
Captured by British, and was on prison ship st New York, under great
hardships, until exchanged. Soon after this he moved with his family
from Taunton to Savoy.
