The last Will and Testament of me James Morgan late of Campstone within the parish of Grosmont but now of Calleyed within the parish of Llangattock Lingoed in the County of Monmouth Yeoman being of sound mind memory and understanding give and devise all that my messuage or tenement farm lands and hereditaments known by the name of Calloyed and situate in the said parish of Llangattock Lingoed unto my eldest son Lesley Morgan his heirs and assigns for ever Subject neverthe- less to and charged and chargeable with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds unto my daughter Ann the wife of Philip Morgan and to be paid and payable to her without interest at the end of one year next after my decease and also with the annuities yearly rents or sums of ten pounds and ten pounds hereinafter severally mentioned and devised to my son James Morgan and my daughter Margaret Watkins respectively and also subject to the aggregate sum of four hundred pounds in the proportions hereinafter expressed Item I do hereby give devise and bequeath to my son James Morgan and his assigns for ^and during^ the term of his natural life one annuity or clear yearly rent of ten pounds of lawful money free and clear of and from all taxes and to be paid and payable half yearly on the following days (that is to say) the twenty fourth day of June and twenty fifth day of December in every year and the last payment thereof to be made upon such of the said days which shall first happen next after my decease Item from and after the death of my said son James Morgan I do hereby subject and charge my said here-ditaments and premises to and with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds unto the child or children of my said son James Morgan if more than one in equal shares and proportions at the end of one year next after his decease but without interest for or in respect of the said one year Item I do hereby give devise and bequeath to my daugh-ter Margaret the wife of Thomas Watkins for and during the term of her natural life (but subject to the proviso hereinafter contained) one annuity or clear yearly sum of ten pounds of lawful money free from and over and above all taxes and to be paid and payable into the hands of the said Margaret Watkins by four even and equal quarterly payments (that is to say) on the twenty fifth day of March the twenty fourth day of June the twenty ninth day of September and the twenty fifth day of December in every year the first payment thereof to be made on such of the said days as shall first happen next after my decease Item from and after the decease of my said daughter Margaret Watkins I do hereby subject and charge my said hereditaments and premises to and with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds unto the child or children of my said daughter Margaret Watkins if more than one in equal shares and proportions at the end of one year next after her decease but without interest for or in respect of the said year Item I do hereby charge and subject the said hereditaments and premises to and with the payment of the sum of two hundred pounds unto my said daughter Ann Morgan and with the payment of the said respective annuities during the several lives of my said Son the said James Morgan and my said daughter the said Margaret Watkins respectively and from and after their deceases to and with the said sum of two hundred pounds unto the child or children of the said James Morgan and to and with the said sum of two hundred pounds unto the child or children of the said Margaret Watkins in manner aforesaid And it is my will and desire that in case the said annuities or yearly rents or sums of ten pounds and ten pounds or either of them or any part of either of them shall at any time during the life of my said son James Morgan or the life of my said daughter Margaret Watkins be behind or unpaid by the space of twenty days next over or after any or either of the aforesaid days of payment whereon the same are respectively directed to be paid as aforesaid (being first severally demanded) that then and so often it shall and may be lawful to and for my said son James Morgan and also to and for my said daughter Margaret Watkins to enter into and upon the said messuage farm lands and hereditaments and severally to distrain for the said respective annuities or for so much thereof severally as shall be in arrear and the distress and distresses then and there to appraise and dispose of in the same of like manner as landlords are by law empowered to proceed to enforce payment of rent on common devises provided always and it is my will and desire that the said annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds so given unto the said Margaret Watkins as aforesaid shall not be liable to the debts controul or engagements of the said Thomas Watkins or of any person with whom she may here-after intermarry but that the receipts or acquittances of the said Margaret Watkins alone without her husband shall be sufficient discharges for the payment of the said annuity to all intents and purposes as if she was sole and unmarried Provided also and it is my further will and meaning that if my said daughter Margaret Watkins shall sell dispose mortgage or otherwise part with or incumber the said annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds or any part thereof for the term of her life or any part of the same that then and in either of the said cases happening the said annuity or yearly sum of ten pounds shall be cease sink into the freehold and not be any longer paid or payable Item I give and bequeath all my goods chattels personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever situated unto my said son Lesley Morgan to and for his own use and benefit subject to and with the payment of all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses Item I nominate and appoint the said Lesley Morgan sole Executor of this my last will and testamenthereby evoking all others and declaring this to be my last In witness whereof I the said James Morgan the Testator have to this my will contained in three sheets of paper set at my hand at the bottom of each of the two preceding sheets and my hand and seal to this third and last sheet this thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen The mark of the Testator x James Morgan Signed sealed published and declared by the This will was proved on the 22nd March 1843 by James Watkins
and John Morgan the Executors of the will of Lesley Morgan, son of
the deceased who died without having proved the will.
