In the name of God Amen the nineteenth day of Aprill in the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred fifty and Eight I Edward Morgan of the parish of Llangat tock Llingoed in the Coounty of Monmouth beinge sicke in body but of good and perfect memory Praise be given to Almighty God doe make and ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme following ~ (that is to say) First I Commend my Soule to the hands of Almighty god my maker & Redeemer And my body to be buried in Christian buriall in the parish church of Llangattock Llingoed nothing doubting but that for his infinite mercy as sett forth in the precious blood of his dearely beloved sone Jesus Christ my Redeemer hee will receave my Soule into his glory And place it in the company of the Heavenly Angells and blessed Saints ITEM I give and bequeath unto my six grandchildren the children of Sheldon Powell (that is to say) John Powell Elizabeth Powell Anne Powell Bridgett Powell Sheldon Powell and Mary Powell forty pounds apeece of lawfull money of England to bee put out by the said Sheldon Powell to the advantage of his said children ITEM I give and bequeath unto Anne my daughter now wife of [th]e said Sheldon Powell tenn pounds of lawfull money ITEM I give and bequeath to Mary Powell sister of the said Sheldon Powell Twenty S shillings of like lawfull money ITEM I give and bequeath unto my grandchildJane Morgan the sum[m]e of one hundred pounds of lawfull money to be disposed of to her best advantage and increase V I give and bequeath to Mary Morgan my grandchild the sum[m]e of eighty pounds of lawfull money whereof thirty pounds remaine dew to mee by bond from Andrew Probert gent and Ten pounds in the hands of Andrew Lewis of Trelleck to bee disposed to her best advantage ITEM I give devise and bequeath unto Edward Morgan my grandchild All and singular my Messuages houses Lands and Tenements situate in Langeby in the county of Monmouth To have and to hold unto the said Edward Morgan and his heires and assignes for ever And in Case there bee any Customary lands amongst the said premisses in Langeby aforesaid I doe demise such Customary Lands unto the said Edward Morgan To have and to hold unto the said Edward Morgan his Executors and Administratorsfor and during the Tearme of Threescore yeares next ensuing the date hereof yeilding and paying unto my heires or assignes one peny yearly if the same bee lawfully demanded Whereas I doe hold joyntly with Thomas Powell Certaine Messuages lands and Tenements in Grosemont and Skenfrith undivided I give and devise all that my moyety parte or purparte thereof unto the said Edward Morgan my grandchild To have and to hold unto the said Edward Morgan his heires and Assignes for ever all w[hi]ch I purchased of James ap John William Powell of Uske Edward Davies and others ITEM I give & devise unto Thomas Morgan my grandchild all that my messuage or Tenem[en]t with the appurtenances situate in Bergavenny w[hi]ch I formerly purchased of Morgan Watkin And now in the possession of Phillipp Morgan of Bergavenny aforesaid Haberdasher To have & to hold unto the said Thomas Morgan and to his heires & assignes for ever ITEM I give & bequeath unto the said Thomas Morgan Forty pound of lawfull money ITEM I give and devise unto my grandchild Charles Morgan All that my Messuage and Tenem[en]t situate in Bergavenny now in the possession of John Martin Corbish with the appurtenances To have and to hold unto the said Charles Morgan and to his heires and Assignes for ever ITEM I give and bequeath unto the said Charles Morgan Forty pound of lawfull English money ITEM I give & devise unto William Morgan my grandchild All my interest and Tearme of yeares yett to come in & to all those lands arrable pasture & meadow and wood w[hi]ch I hold by lease from John Hughes of Lantillio Gressenny for and during the Tearme of ninety nine yeares To have & to hold unto the said William Morgan his executors Administrators and assignes Provided alwaies that if the said John Hughes doth not redeeme the said lands according to the tenor of the said Lease That then upon payment of Fifty poundes together w[i]th all the Interest then due thereupon of lawfull English money by the said Edward Morgan my grandchild unto the said William Morgan his Executors or Administrators then I give and devise the said Lands and pr[e]misses unto the said Edward Morgan his Executors and Administrators for ever ITEM I give and devise all and singular my Messuages Lande and Tenemente with all and singular theire appurtenances which heretofore I purchased of Watkin John Price James Pritchard and Roger Reignallds situate lyeing and being in Llangattocke Llingoed aforesaid unto Charles Morgan my sonne for and during the terme of his naturall life And after his decease to the use and behoofe of Elizabeth Morgan his now wife for and dureing her Widdowhood And after the decease of the said Charles and in case the said Elizabeth shall intermarry then I give and devise all and singular the messuages lands and tenements afors[ai]d unto Edward Morgan my grandchild To have and to hold unto the said Edward and to his heires and Assignes for ever ITEM I give and devise all my messuages and lande situate in Lanvhangell Crucorney and Langattocke Llingoed which I purchased of Thomas Powell John Pritchard William Pritchard and others unto the said Charles Morgan my sonne and to his heires To have and to hold unto the said Charles Morgan for and dureing the terme of his naturall life and after his decease to the use and behoofe of Edward Morgan my grandchild and to his heires and Assignes for ever Provided alwaies th[a]t if the said Edward Morgan my grandchild shall marry without his parents Consentt Then I give and devise all and singular my Messuages and lande before mentioned situate in Llangebby unto the Executors of this my last will and testament untill the sum[m]e of two hundred pounds bee raised out of the said lands and laid out to the best advantage of my grandchildren the sonnes and daughters of Charles Morgan my sonne that is to say Thomas Morgan Charles Morgan William Morgan Jane Morgan and Mary Morgan ITEM I give and bequeath unto my Covenant servants five shillings apeece ITEM I give and bequeath unto Charles Morgan my sonne and Sheldon Powell my sonne in lawe all and singular sum[m]e or sum[m]es of money due unto me by booke or bookes to bee equally devided between their children and for theire further advancement And I doe nominate and appoint Charles Morgan my son To be sole Executor of this my last will and testament And in case the said Charles Morgan doe not prove the same wthin. six months next after my decease according to due forme of lawe Then I doe nominate and appoint Sheldon my son in law to bee my Executor of this my last will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto put my hand and seale the day and yeare above written.

This will was proved at London on 6th May 1658 by Charles Morgan,
son of the deceased.
