Consistory Court of Llandaff
Defamation cases were brought before the Consistory Courts of the four Welsh dioceses. The records of these ecclesiastical courts do not survive in quantity until the Eighteenth Century.The complainant's case was set out in a 'libel', which recorded: the names of the parties in dispute, the residence and style or occupation of the defendant and plaintiff, the date and place of the offence, and the exact wording of the slander or defamation. |
