Pearce Tracey of Baltimore

Pearce Tracey Family of Baltimore

Most of what can be pieced together for the Pearce Tracey family comes from census records and Matchetts Directories for Baltimore City. According to the census Records, Pierce (aka Pearce) Tracey ws born between 1770 and 1780 in Maryland. He was married to Mary WILSON on 13 July 1805 by Rev. Richards -according to the register of Rev. Lewis Richards , Pastor of the First Baptist Church. A transcript of the marriage licenses for Baltimore Co., lists of 11 July 1805 lists Pierce Tracy and Mary Richards . This could easily been an error in the transcription with the Pastors surname being copied as the Bride's surname. From a notice in the Baltimore Sun: TRACEY, Mary A. died 18 Jan 1840 wife of Pierce Tracey. According to the census records she was born between 1780 and 1790.

Pierce Tracey appears in the US Census records from 1810 through 1840.

He is listed in the 1810 census in the Back River Lower Hundred on page 446 as Pearce TRACEY with:

1 male under 10, 1 male age 26-45, 2 females under age 10, 2 females age 16-26

In 1820 he is found in 4th District of Baltimore Co. as Pearce TRACEY

3 males under 10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female under age 10, 2 females age 10-16, 1 female age 26-45, 1 person engaged in agriculture.

In 1830 he is in the 4th Ward of Baltimore City on page 208 as Pearce TRACEY

2 males age 5 to 10, 1 male age 10-15, 2 males age 15-20 1 male age 20-30 1 male age 50-60, 1 female under 5, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15 to 20, 1 female 20 to 30, 1 female age 40 to 50.

In the 1840 Pierce TRACY appears in the census of the 3rd ward of Baltimore City

1 male 15-20, 2 males 20-30, 1 male 60 to 70, 1 female under 5, 1 female 15 to 20, 1 female 20 to 30.

So it would seem that Pearce and Mary had several children. But not much to go on, except the City Directories. Pearce is listed in two of Matchetts City Directories of Baltimore

1837: TRACY, Pierce, Hill St near Hillen (New Church)
1842 TRACY Peirce, Eden st. south of Mulliken
. Also in the 1842 Directory is:
Alexander Tracey machinist at corner Eden St and Mullilin st.
Wm Tracey, machinist at corner of Eden st. and Mulliken st.

In the 1847 Matchetts Directory there is:

Alexander Tracey, boiler maker, 107 n. Eden st.
William Tracy, machinist, 155 Orleans St.

Alexander Tracey continues to be listed in the 1853 City Directory as a boiler maker living at 107 n Eden st.. There is a William Tracy listed as a Blacksmith at 104 Boyd st.

The Information I have found so far on Alexander Tracey is as follows: Alexander TRACEY was born about 1813 in MD. He appears in the City Directory of Baltimore City, MD in 1842 He appears in the City Directory of Baltimore City, MD in 1847

Alexander TRACEY and Eliza VICKERS obtained a marriage license on 28 Oct 1842 in Baltimore Co., MD. Eliza VICKERS was born about 1828 in MD. She appears in the 1850 census of in 7th ward Baltimore City, MD age 22 with husband enumerated on 10 Jul 1850 Alexander TRACEY and Eliza VICKERS had the following children:

i. Thomas TRACEY was born about 1844 in MD. He appears in the 1850 census of in 7th ward Baltimore City, MD age 6 with parents enumerated on 10 Jul 1850
ii. Mary V. TRACEY was born about 1848 in MD. She appears in the 1850 census of in 7th ward Baltimore City, MD age 2 with her parents enumerated on 10 Jul 1850

I have not found any definite information on this family after 1853. But from the addresses and census data it would seem that Alexander, William, and Abury were among the children of Alexander Tracey and Mary Wilson.
