This page compliments the linked grouped sheets by providing some data on persons that have not been linked to their parents. In some cases the uncertainty arises because people went by different given names, such as being listed with their parents as children under their first name and the using their middle name as an adult. Also some went by a nickname and are recorded that way in the census. In some case the records (such as census) have an erroneous given name listed (Perhaps an error from when the census workers copied their work sheets into the offical pages.) In some cases, even with some errors in names and dates, the census data can be deciphered, for example Nathan Peddycoart and his family in the 1870 census of Linn Co., IA is listed as Wm Peddicord born in PA, but his childrens names confirm the identity of the family).
Another case is the frustrating set of records is where there are marriage records, yet there is no sign of the couple in the census records. In most cases, these concern female Peddicords and their husbands, where finding them in the census would help identify birth dates and places and therefore possible the wife's parents.
Some people were orphans, others just seem to be in households with relatives. Also since the 1890 census was destroyed, there is a 20 year gap in US census records which creates a large hole in research material for people born during and shortly after 1880. Prior to 1850, we have to go on local records or family lore, both of which are spotty. In some cases we have only so far found one mention of a person, or in some cases records including marriages and baptisms give us a view of a family that is not found in any other records such as the census. There appear to be only a few early wills or probate papers available, although more local research is needed. From the mid 1700s until 1850 there are a number of PEDDICORDs (or PETTICOART, PETTICORD, etc. ) for which the records have not left us much information. There are sometimes a few clues that allow a inference to potential parents. In other cases we can only guess based on geography and possibly their neighbors.
What is known about the issue of John Peddicort and Sarah Dorsey's children:
William Peddicord Sr died testate and there are deeds that are from the settlement of his estate, therefore his issue is known from the will and the deeds.
John Petticoart Jr. apparently died in Stafford Co VA. before 11 Feb 1735/36. It seems he married a widow named Jannet, who was then remarried to Moses Rowley on 16 May 1739 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA. If John had issue, than they were likely born between 1730 and 1736.
Nicholas, son of John and Sarah Dorsey lived in what is now Carroll Co., MD. We find a definite reference to him as one of the administrators of the estate of Thomas Jacks, along with Thomas' son, Richard in 1755. He is the Nicholas Petticoate is in the tax ledger for Baltimore Co. for 1762-1765. There is a foreclosure against his realty filed in 1798 (for a Mortgage from the 1750s) The complaint states Nicholas left the area for parts unknown (apparently a legal ruse, this the foreclosure law dealt with persons who were not longer residents of Maryland). A depositon in the case indicates that family of Nicholas Peddicord lived on the property until about 1798. In the 1790 census of Baltimore county, Delaware Hundred, (which is where this property was located) There is an Ann Pedicoat listed with just 1 female in the household. One guess is that Ann was the widow and Nicholas and lived there until ca. 1797 or so when she died. By 1798 the property was under the control of the administrator of the wills of one of wife of one of the lenders . However note that in the 1783 tax list for Elkridge Hundred of Anne Arundel Co MD there is Humphrey Petticoat and Nicholas Petticoat, Jr. I think both Humphrey and Nicholas Jr mentioned here are the sons of William Peddicoart and Sarah Belt.
Dorsey Peddicord seems to have been a character, he was active in seeking land patents and apparently dealing (speculating?) in real estate. He was the father of a illegitimate child by Mary Barnes in 1747, We know he was married in 1746 and in a 1751 deed his wife was named Sarah. Various printed material claims he had at least one son named Dorsey. I suspect he may have had several children Dorsey sold over 300 acres of land in Baltimore County in 1763 and does not further appear in the land records. It is speculated that he might have moved west into Pennsylvania.
The following Peddicords were born between 1750 and 1774. Their parents are not known or proven Most likely they were issue of either Nicholas or Dorsey for those born ca 1740 to 1760..
Nicholas PEDDICORD born ca. 1750 in Maryland. This Nicholas is the progenitor of the Peddicord family in the area of Indiana Co., PA. He is on the 1790 census of Bedford Co., PA with 4 males under 16, 1 male over 16 yrs and 5 females. He is listed in the 1810 census of Indiana Co. as a male over age 45. His wife was named Sarah (apparently the daughter of John Wilson of Bedford Co., PA, as John Wilson named a daughter Sarah Peddicort in his will of 1774] . I suspect that he is likely the son of Dorsey Peddicord but there is no direct evidence.
Dorsey PEDDICORD There are two Dorsey Peddicords in the 1790 census of Baltimore Co., The lineage and descendants for either of these Dorseys is not known. However, one of them is possibly the reputed son of Dorsey Sr (son of John and Sarah Dorsey Petticoart)
Dorsey PETICOAT is found in the Middle River Hundred with 1 male over 16 and 1 female. A comparison of the names around this Dorsey PETICOAT in the 1790 census, with the names in the 1798 tax list of Baltimore County and the 1810 census {Unfortunately there is no 1800 census of Baltimore County} shows that Morris Peticord in 1810 was living in the same neighborhood as Dorsey was in 1790. Further, the listings around Dorsey PETICOAT are: Richard OWINGS, Capt. John COCKEY, Richardson STANSBURY, Caleb COCKEY,, William NORWOOD, Mary TIPTON, Dorsey PETICOAT, Shadrack TIPTON John C. OWINGS, John BOND Jr., John BOND (Sr.). Morris PETICORD was married to Keturah Bond, the granddaughter of John Bond Sr. (apparently the daughter of Joshua Bond]. This would suggest that there is a strong connection between Morris PETTICORD and Dorsey PETICOAT. Very Possibly Morris is the son of Dorsey.
Dorsey PEDDECOT is listed in an area that appears to be around Soldiers Delight or Delaware Hundred of Baltimore County, based on other names in the list. He has one male over 16, two male under 16 and 4 females in his household.
There is a Dorsey Peddicord born between 1755 and 1774 who migrated to Ohio. He may be the same Dorsey Peticoat listed in the 1800 and 1810 census of Huntingdon Co. PA. in 1800 he has 3 males under 10 years, 1 male age 26-45 years, 1 female under 10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 16-26 and one female 26-45. In 1810 he has 3 males under 10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 16-26 and 1 male over 45 , 2 females 10-16, 1 female 16-26, and 1 female 26-45. He may be the Dorsey Peddicord in the 1820 census of Fairfield Co OH (male over age of 45) who was the husband of Sarah, and apparently the father of John C. Peddicord, b. 1797 in MD, married March 1819 in Fairfield Co to Mary Ann Geisbert and also Susannah Peticord (b. ca. 1801) who married Isaac Hartsock on 18 Oct 1822 in Fairfield Co., OH) In Seneca County Ohio there is cemetery that was bulldozed, remains include stone for PETTICORD, Sarah w/o Dorsey died Feb 26, 1839. also in this cemetery is a Daniel Guisbert d. July 28, 1832 age 64 years and Elizabeth died Mar 18, 1838 age 66 years.This Dorsey may be related to James below:
James Peddicord Married 23 April 1793 in Baltimore to Mary Belt, in 1801 he moved from Washington Co., PA to Fairfield ( Now Licking Co.,) OH with his brother-in-laws and mother-in-law. In the 1820 census of Fairfield Co., OH there is a Dorsey Peddicord in Fairfield Co., who is over age 45 discused above. James Peddicord is mentioned in the history of Licking County Ohio In October of this year (1802) quite a large colony came from Washington County, Pennsylvania and settled in Newark and Cherry Valley. There were Abraham Johnson, Abraham Wright, William B. Gaw, James Petticord, Edward Nash, Carlton Belt, Benedict Belt, Aquilla Belt, Little John Belt, Black John Belt. These Belts were also joined in a few years by Long John Belt. In the winter of 1802-03 James Petticord and Little John Belt began the erection of a mill which would become the Buskirk Mill in 1804....
It appears that John Purchased 50 acres from Matthew Black in Licking Co. John's wife Mary was the daughter of Richard Belt and and Keturah Price who were married 24 Feb 1760 at the Gunpowder Monthly Meeting. Her grandfather, John Belt was a brother of Sarah Belt who married William Peddicoart.
Morris Petticord born about 1771, died 20 Jan 1838 in Baltimore, married 26 Feb 1793 Keturah Bond. Keturah was the grandaughter of John Bond Sr. of Bond's Industry and presumably the daughter of Joshua Bond who predceased his father. Recently information was provided about information Laura Petticord Buchen, the daughter of Charles C. Petticord, a granddaughter of Morris Petticord dictated before she died in 1924. According to this information, William B. Petticord b. 1794 was the eldest son and Charles C. b. 1821. was the youngest son of Morris, the other children were named as: John b. 1796 (who was a hat maker and one of the last of the Defenders of Baltimore from the war of 1812], Kensey b. 1807, Sarah b. 1808, Peter b. 1812, and a Joshua who moved west and was not heard from. There is an interesting twist however, in that Luara's mother-in-law, Rahel/Rachel Schmidt/Smith is said to have married one of Charles C's brothers and then married John Buchen. As discussed above, based on his location in 1810 being approximately the same where a Dorsey Peticoat is listed in 1790, its possible that his father was Dorsey.
Joseph Peddicord Joseph was born 11 April 1753 and died 4 May 1837 at the home of Levi Chambers in Anne Arundel Co., MD. Levi appears to be Joseph's son-in-law since Levi married Sary Peddicord on 15 Nov 1802 in Montgomery Co., MD.
Ester PEDDICORD Ester Peddicord is claimed to be the wife of Rev. John Murphy whose daughter Elizabeth (b. 1 June 1777) married Jesse Rowles.
Henry PEDDICOART has one reference to him found in the Sept 1771 list of debts for the estate of William Hall filed in Anne Arundle Co., MD. There are over 100 names on this list.
William PETYCORD This William was born between 1760 and 1770. He is only documented in the 1830 census of Baltimore County with 1 male age 60-70 and 1 female age 40-50. He was living in the northeast part of Baltimore County . He might be the father of a James Peddycord living near Hereford, Baltimore Co., in 1830 who was born between 1790 and 1800. (and found 2 pages away from William in the Census) Another William Peddicord (or perhaps the same as William above), married Mary Collier by license dated 14 Dec 1803 in Washington Co., MD. Presumaably this William Peddicord is the same as the William Peddicord in the 1820 census residing in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD with 2 males under age 10, 1 male age 1 male age 16 to 26, 2 females under 10, and 1 female age 26 to 45. One theory on this family is that the children listed include Elizabeth Peddicord born ca 1816 in VA and married to (1) John Witherspoon and (2) to Jacob Wolfkill. Elizabeth is also found in (at least) the 1870 and 1880 censuses in Chambersburg and died 28 Oct 1886. John Peddicord b. ca 1816 in MD, appear in the 1850 census of Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA. along with an Ellen Peddicord b. ca. 1832 in MD.Jane PEDDICORD claimed to have been the wife of first Shaderick Miles who died in 1788 in Washington County, Md. she married second Robert Barnes after 1790 and they moved to Ky from Washington Co., MD. John Miles, a son of Jane by her marriage to Shadrack Miles had issue that included Louisa Miles who married Carlton Peddicord and Xantippy Miles who married William Peddicord in Clark Co., KY. by Robert Barnes of Robert she is suppose to be the mother of Robert Jr. born ca. 1773, Joseph b. bef 1779, Alfred b. 1 June 1790, Ephraim b. ca. 1774, & Samuel b. ca. 1781.
Elizabeth PEDDICORD married Henry Inloes, Baltimore Co. license dated 6 Sept 1786.
Ruth PEDDICORD was the wife of Azariah Prather (b. ca 1760 in MD, d. bef Oct 1813 in Opelousa, LA.]. Opelousa Catholic Church records for the marriage of John Prather to Catharine Clark cite the name of his mother as Ruth Peddicord. In the 1783 tax list of Montgomery Co., MD, Azariah Prather is found in the Upper Newfoundland and Seneca Hundred. Azariah was in Clark Co., KY by 3 Nov 1800 where he witnessed the will of Archibald Edmondson. I place Ruth as a daughter of Jasper Peddicord and Rebecca Belt. In part, becuase Jasper is listed in the 1783 tax list of the Upper Newfoundland and Seneca Hundred with several tracts totaling about 340 acres. However, recently Larken D Peddicord (son of Nathan Peddicord and Hannah Owings) has been found as a witness to a will in Lousianna in 1816.
Mary Peddicord born 30 May 1763 (probably in Baltimore Co., MD) died 30 May 1838 in Clermont Co., OH was the wife of John Corbin John is in the 1790 and 1800 census of Harford Co., MD, there is no marriage license for John Corbin in Baltimore or Harford Co. Given the census locations, I expect Mary was a sister of John who married Rebecca Boring since they seem to be in the north eastern part of Baltimore Co. (St John's Parish and what became Harford Co. in 1776) Also both familes are found around the Cincinnati area along the Ohio River in the early 1800s.
Thomas Peddicord born between 1765 and 1784 is found in the 1810 census of Madison Co., KY with 1 male age 26 to 45, 1 female age 26-45 Some think he may be from North Carolina.
Ann PETICORD born ca. 1784, found in the 1850 census of Baltimore county, living in the household of Mahlon Price, MD in the area around Priceville in Baltimore Co. which is a few miles south of Hereford. She may be the female in William Petycord houshold in the 1830 census, due to geographic locations.

Adam Peddicord married in Baltimore Co. on 10 April 1810 Elizabeth Fowble. He appears in the 1810 census of Baltimore Co. one entry removed from his father-in-law (and after a brother-in-law). In this listing Adam Perrcord has 1 male under age 10, 1 male age 16 to 26, one female age 16 to 26. In 1820 he is found in the census of the 7th district of Baltimore County, one page before the entry for Humphrey Peddicord. In 1820 he is listed with 3 males under age 10, 1 male age 10-16, 1 male age 26-45, 1 female under age 10, 1 female age 16-26 and 1 female age 26-45. More research is required, but Adam is potentially the father of several persons born in MD between 1800 and 1830 for whom no parents have be established. He along with Morris and Humphrey are all found in the north west part of Baltimore Co., in the 1810 and 1820 censuses
Rebecca Peddicort married 21 Dec 1810 (or 1816) Richard Thompson in Montgomery Co. MD she is placed as a duaghter of Jasper and Becky.
\Nancy Peddicord married 3 Feb 1812 Richard Warfield in Baltimore Co. MD She was the daughter of William Peddicord and Elizabeth Hobbs and formally named Mary. This family is well documented in the probate procedings of Capt. Thomas Hobbs of Anne Arundel Co..
Sophia Peddicord married 20 Nov 1812 Stephen Musgrove in Baltimore Co. MD. Stephen is found in the 1820 census of the 5th district of Howard Co., MD. She is another daughter of William Peddicord and Elizabeth Hobbs and is well documented in her probate proceedings of her grandfather Thomas Hobbs.
Cynthia Peddicoart married 22 Dec 1812 to Nacy Thompson, in Montgomery Co. MD is also placed as a daughter of Jasper and Becky Peddicord
Marcella Peddicord born ca 1802 married Greenbury Sheets 12 Aug 1824 in Frederick Co., MD, by 1840 the family had moved to Seneca Co. OH. (MD)

William Peddicord may be the same as the William above is in the 1820 census of 5th dist. of Anne Arundel Co., MD with 1 male under 10, 1 male 26-45, 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-45, 1 in agriculture. Also on that page of the census is Zacharia PEDDICORD 1 male age 26-45, two females age under 10, 1 female age 26 to 45. 1 male in agriculture. Is this William the father of Thomas Petticord (b. ca. 1810) who moved to Ohio Co., WVA? (see the next section)
Adam Peddicord was born ca 1794 and married to Hope (Hoopy) Scott 1 December 1829. He lived in Baltimore Co. and died between 1850 and 1860. Their issue included: Andrew (b. ca. 1831), James H. (b. 19 Aug 1832), George (b. ca. 1837) and Elizabeth (b. ca. 1842)
Kellon Peddycord of Stokes Co (Forsyth Co.) NC born ca. 1783, died Oct 1849 married on 3 Sept 1810 to Grizella Ledford. in Stokes Co., NC There descendants are well known and featured in the book PEDDICORD JUNCTION written by Gray Smith Harmon that focuses on the North Carolina Peddycords (Descendants of Nathan and Sarah Lucas
Nathan Peddicord born ca. 1790 in MD or KY. He is in Clark Co., KY married Mary (Nancy) Dawson there on 15 Sept 1814. He seems to be a son of William, Nathan, or Leakin D. Peddicord, sons of Nathan and Hannah Owings from Washington Co., MD. Nathan of Nathan or Hannah is thought to have died before 1798 when his presumed widow Margaret Peddicord married Harry Browning. Leakin D. Peddicord was a witness of the Widow Margaret Peddicord to Harry Browning. Note that in the Kentucky Journal in 7 Aug 1810 the following appeared: Richard Blew, living in Clark County near Winchester, regarding a runaway apprentice to the blacksmith business, Nathaniel Dailey, age 20. He may change his name to Nathaniel Peddicord.
Shadrack Peddychord is another member of the Clark Co., KY family. He is also most likely a son of Nathan, or Leakin Pedddicord. Shadrack was married twice, first to Lucinda Doggett on 11 April 1822 in Clark Co., and second to Mary Jane Palmer on 16 May 1839 in Henry Co., KY. The census records hint that he may have had children by the first marriage, but so far the only known children are from the second marriage. The fact that Shadrack does not seem to own land, but living near (or perhaps on) land owned by (1) William Peddicord in Clark Co., and (2) William's presumed son Carleton in Henry Co. KY, gives rise to the suspicion he was not William's son, but perhaps his nephew.

Joseph P. Peddicord. of Frederick, Howard, or Baltimore Co. This Joseph Peddicord was born ca. 1800 as he married in Frederick Co., MD to Catharine Elizabeth Young by license dated 28 Jan 1824. Glenn Peddicord found that they were divorced 24 Feb 1841, yet the death certificate of one daughter, Alice indicates she was born in 1848. There seem to be two Joseph Peddicords in Anne Arundel Co (Howard Dist) ca. 1816-1830. It is generally though that Joseph H Peddicord is the son of Jasper and Amelia Peddicord. This being the Joseph H. who married Ann E. Barnes. Latest information indicates that Higgenson Peddicord (son of Jasper Peddicord and Becky Belt) of Montgomery Co was first married to a Miss Pigman and had a son Joseph by her before marrying Betsey Bozarth. This son Joseph was left with his grandparents in Maryland, after his mother died and is likley Joseph P.
Thomas Petticord is another Howard Co Peddicord of unknown parents. he was born 5 July 1808 in Baltimore Maryland, married Dec 1840 to Susan Kendal in the Howard District of Anne Arundel County and moved ca. 1838 from Maryland to Ohio Co., WVA. The Civil war enlistment papers for his son James T. Petticord indicate that the latter was born in 1842 in Elliotts Mills (now Ellicott City) in Anne Arundel Co., MD. At this point I think he was a son of either Adam or Humphrey.
Anne Marie Petticard married (license dated the 21st of August) on 24 Aug 1833 (Frederick Co. MD) John Smollet Paulin (Middletown Evangelical) Anna remains a mystery. She liklely is a daughter of Humphry, or Adam
David Petticord David was born ca 1818 in Maryland found in 1850 in Stuebenville OH (although his wife was from PA and his two eldest children were born in PA before moving to Steubenville]. and in 1870 and 1880 in Allegheny PA. In 1870 on the same Census page is a John Petticor age 40 (b. ca. 1830) in MD and his family. He and William Petticord who is also found in Pittsburgh We suspect both David and William are sons of Adam Peddicord and Catherine Fowble.
Rachel Peddicord born 18 Oct 1811 and died 24 Feb 1859, married 21 Jan 1829 in Baltimore Co., MD to Henry Mercer born 10 Jan 1804, died 24 Feb 1859 (they are buried at Unionville, Frederick Co., MD). I believe she was a daughter of Morris or Humphrey.
Margaret Peddicord married 7 Sept 1840 in Baltimore MD to William Turner
Jasper Peddicord married 1 Feb 1822 in Baltimore MD to Mary Ann Holmes and had issue of (at least): Andrew Jackson Peddicord (christianed 13 Mar 1831 Westminster, Baltimore (Carroll) Co. MD) and Margareth (christianed 24 Oct 1829) No record of the family is found in the US Census.
Elizabeth Peddicord born ca 1816 in VA and John Peddicord b. ca 1816 in MD, appear in the 1850 census of Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA. along with an Ellen Peddicord b. ca. 1832 in MD. Elizabeth was married to (1) John Witherspoon and (2) to Jacob Wolfkill. Elizabeth is also found in (at least) the 1870 and 1880 censuses in Chambersburg and died 28 Oct 1886. As mentioned above, one theory is they are children of William Peddicord and Mary Collier. There is a John Peddicord born ca 1816-1819 in PA (according to the census)who is in the 1860 and 1870 census of Logan Co., OH
John PETTICORD died March 1880 in Auglaize Co., OH. He married in Hardin Co., OH on 13 May 1852 Deborah (or Delila as recorded in the marriage records) SNOW, the daughter of Calvin and Jane SNOW. John Petticord and Deborah/Delila had a daughter Sarah C born 1858 who married 15 Feb 1877 Byron Keller. It appears that this is the same John PETTICORD in Ohio and Franklin CO., PA.
Another link to the Chambersburg area is that Jonathan Lydic was born 14 Mar 1846 in PA with Chambersburg being identified as his birth place on find-a-grave. he died 26 Aug 1914 in Hanock Co., OH, his death certification extract gives his parents as John Lydic and Elizabeth Petteacord. Jonathan was in Co G of the 12th Ohio Volunteer Calvary during the civil war and married Ann Maria Harris 4 July 1870 Wyndot Co., OH. The only possbile reference to him prior to the civil war records is the 1850 census of Washington Twp., Daupine Co., PA where the entry exists for: John Lidich age 30 M blacksmith b PA
John's age here is off but he could have added a few years to enlist in the civil war.

Mahala Petticord received a marriage license on 19 Nov 1829 in Brown Co., OH to wed John C Leming. She and John are the parents of Minerva (b. 1833) and Sarah (b. 1836). Mahala apparently died sometime between 1836 and 1850. From the census it seems the family moved from Ohio to Kentucky, indiana, and then Illinois. In the 1850 Census of Cumberland Co., IL, John C Liming age 40 b OH has with him: Minerva age 18 F b OH, Sarah age 16 b IN, Willis age 4 b IL and Lethe B age 1 b IL. John C Leming was married to Jane Y Fegans on 24 Oct 1851 in Clinton Co., IL and died in Bolinger Co., MO 26 July 1869. Unknown if he had a second wife after Mahala died that was the mother of Willis and Leathe and died before 1850, or if Mahala was mother of the four elder children, It would seem from the birth dates of surviving children in 1850, there was probably a second wife. Daughter Minerva death certificate from 1917 confirms her parents as John C Liming and Mahala Pettycord. While there is no definite evidence who Mahala's parents were, based on her birth data (ca 1809) and the early census records it would seem she has to have been a daughter of Jacob Peddicord who if the only person with unknow daughters born in that time frame. In 1810 census Jacob has one female under age 10 in his household.
Aberilla Petticord born ca. 1812, married in Brown Co OH 4 Sept 1834 to John Berry. She is likely a daughter of Abel Peddicord, as her eldest son is named Abel D. Berry (b. ca. 1835) The family moved to Brown Co., IL ca 1860. Son Emanuel died during or shortly after the war and Aberilla recieved a pension as mother of the soldier in 1868.
Asenith Petticord born ca 1811 KY, d. 29 Sept 1860 married in Brown Co., OH, maried 18 Oct 1834 Joseph Barnes, I suspect she is the duaghter of Nicholas Peddicord, since the census records indicate he probably had a daughter born between 1810 and 1815.

Perry Peddicord was in Licking Co. in the 1830 US Census and Dorsey Peddicord was there in 1820. and William Peddicord was there is 1840. Our research tells us that Perry had a daughter Rachel and the William Peddicord remaining in Licking Co., in 1840 was his son. There is a Michael Statler born 15 Apr 1810 supposedly in Madison Co., OH who moved to Illinois and married Lucy McCumber 14 Nov 1847 in Coles Co., IL. But looking at his 1850 census entry it appears that Lucy was not his first wife. In Greasy Creek Twp, of Coles Co IL. Michael Statler age 40 M $1000 realty b OH, Lucy age 21 F b OH, Christian N age 16 F b OH, Mary A age 11 F b OH, James W age 8 M b IL, Sydney J age 2 M b IL, Robert age 5 months b IL. So only the two younger children would have been children from Lucy. Michael was in Coles Co., IL in 1840 where he is found with one male age 5 to 10, one male age 30 to 40, one female under age 5 and one female age 30 to 40. Is the mother of the elder children of Michael here Rachel Peddicord? Another Michael Statler born ca 1813 in OH was living in Marion Co., OH in 1859 through 1880 with wife Mary age 37 b PA, and John W age 19 b OH I think that the Rachel Petticord in this marriage record is the daughter of Peregrine (Perry] Peddicord and Margaret Cunningham. She seems to have died in the 1840s and I suspect her husband was the Michael Statler who moved to Coles Co., IL However, on the find-a-grave site for John William Stateler (b. 4 Nov 1841 in Coles Co., IL, there is a statement that his mother was Sidney Neiberger.

Spinning 9 April 1849, Clermont Co., OH; This mystry seems to be in part a handwritting decryption issue, he seems to be actually Asa D Spinney and based on census records she is Isabelle Petticord. They had one child Sylvester b ca 1850 . Asa died ca 1855 and Isabelle married on 29 Nov 1855 Hugh Calvin Melot/Malott and had several children, the family moved to Illinois circa 1871. There is a birth record for Calvin Malott and Isabel Peticord for their daughter Sarah C t ohelp confirm the connections. So who are the parents of Isabelle Petticord b ca 1828 in OH? in 1880 she lists her parents as born in OH, but in 1900 census she has them listed as born in KY. Based on the census records from 1830, It would appear that she was the daughter of James Peddicord, the youngest son of John Peddicord and Rebecca Boring, although we have not been able to identify his wife's name. Potentially there is a death certificate for Isabell in Perry Co., IL.

Elias died 30 Feb 1898. Apparently she died before 1880 as her husband is found as a widower living with his son-in-law and daughter Elizabeth (b. 1858). Not known who her parents were.

This Robbins family seems to have come through PA to IL, and Edward is probably a boarder, unrelated. However in Utica Twp in La Salle Co IL in 1850 we also find in the household of William Simmon, Edward Peddicord age 25 a carpenter b OH and Basil Peddicord age 30 farmer b OH These latter two are the sons of Emanuel Peddicord and Delilah Eaton. So two Edward Petticords carpenters by trade in La Salle Co in 1850? Are both entries the same Edward who was counted twice?

Well the record reads: I do hereby certify that the rites of matrimony were solemnized by me oh the 27th day of November 1845 between Abraham Shockey and Eleanor Pedicord, Dec 19, 1845 - /s/ A H Redford, licensed Methodist Minister, Sarah Peddicord was married to Abraham Shockley on 31 Mar 1840 in Mason Co., KY, There is a marriage bond for this union. That we Abraham Schocky and (smeared) ?ask Peddicord are firmly bound to the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Penal sum of fifty pounds current money for the payment of which well and truely be made we bind ourselves or heirs, executors, or administrators jointly and severally by those present Sealed with our seals and dated the 31st day of March 1840. The considion of the above obligation is such that whereas a marriage is intended to be had and solemnized between the said Abraham Peddicord and Sarah Peddicord, Now if there be no legal cause to obstruct the same, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue /s/ Abraham Shockey and Samuel P Peddicord. obviously the name was miswritten for Abraham Shockey as Peddicord in this bond. Samuel Parker Peddicord is a son of Emanuel Peddicord, and therefore it seems that Sarah was his sister. The return for this marriage was filed via letter dated Dec 14th 1840 from Johnstown, by C W Lewis, who writes that This is to certify that Abraham Shockey and Sarah Peddicord were joined in holey wedlock by the undersigned on 2st day of April 1840 Abraham and Sarah died relatively young and are buried at Minerva Methodist Church Cemetery. Sarah T wife of Abraham Shockey died Jan 26, 1843 age the age of 26. Abraham died 3 May 1847 age the age of 31 years. There is also an inscription on Abraham's tombstone for Samuel I (not clearly shown in the photos but appears to be son of A & E Shockey died March 22 1847 age ?? 22 days, So Elinor is the second wife of Abraham and also a daughter of Emanuel Peddicord and Delilah Eaton. For on 17 Feb 1849 Alexander HIghland and Basil Peddicord post bond for the marriage of Alexander Highland to Ellen Shockey. Note that a son of Abraham Shockey and Sarah, is living with Alexander and Ellen Highland in the 1850 census. Another odd twist to the Alexander Highland family is that after 1870 they changed their surname to HILEN from HIGHLAND

L Layton JP, Ellen did not live long as Simon Peter was married again on 7 Nov 1861 in Putnam Co., OH to Mary Rankin. Peter died in 1920 in Michigan. In 1850 census the only Peddicords in this part of Ohio were Rezin M and his brother Henry/Harry W in Allen Co., OH. Also not the entry below for Humphrey who was also in the area in 1850s. Based on circumstances, Ellen Norah would seem to be the daughter of Humphrey Peddicord and Elizabeth Hooker. Humphrey died intestate, and while records exist for appointment of his wife Elizabeth as Administratrix of his estate, and a detailed inventory and the sale of his estate are doucmented, there is no account on the distribution of his estate.
Humphrey Peddicord died ca July 1855, married on 4 Jan 1854 in Putnan Co., OH, Wilhelmina Myers. had one son William H born Oct 1854 in OH. The widow married Henry Kundard in Sept 1855. Wilhelmina was appointed adminstratrix of Humphrey's estate on 2 Aug 1855 in Allen Co., OH. Henry Kundard was one of the bondsman for the administration of Humphrey's estate. Given the location and presence of Rezin M Peddicord and Henry W in the area, and the fact that from the 1830 and 1820 census it seems that Humphrey Peddicord and Elizabeth Hooker had four sons and three daughters, I would place both Humphrey who died in 1855 and Ellen Lora or Eleanora as their children

Its possible that this George may have been George Peddicord of John and Catharine Hush who married Sarah Ellen Steele in 1856 and Catherine Bryan died shortly after their marriage and all we know about is his second marriage.

The latter is probably correct since in the 1860 census there is a Leonard Bevel in Shelby Co., IL. In 1880 they are in Marion Co., MO with Leonard J age 60 b VA parents b England, Elizabeth age 32 wife b IL parents b KY, Burrel son age 24 b IL father b VA mother b England, and Daniel son age 21 b IL father b VA and mother b England. So it seems that Elizabeth E born ca 1838 in IL married Leonard shortly after his wife died. Leonard died in 1891 and is buried at Steffenville, Lewis Co., MO. The first wife was Sarah Townley b ca 1823 in England and married Leonard on 11 Juy 1844 in Shelby Co., IL. That still leaves Elizabeth E an unknown, The only possiblity from the census is that maybe she was listed in the 1850 census as Sally Peddicord b 1843 the daughter of Lloyd Bell Peddicord and Malinda May, the dates and palces fit, and I have no further information on Sally.
The heirs of Eliza Peddicord daughter of Samuel Shambaugh and Polly Delay married in 1842)are referred to in the estate of her father accoding to some information provided, I have not been able to find this family in the census. Eliza had a brother Charles and Greenbury. Samuel claimed to be the son of William Shambaugh.

In the 1900 census, Hattie indicates she had 3 children with 2 living, one of them was Perry living with his mother.

Albert PETTICORD b. Apr 1861 in Washington DC. married ca 1895 Belle, Is found in the 1900 census of 7th ward of Baltimore City on Maderia St.. He should not be confused with Albert B Peddicord (2 Apr 1862-24 Jun 1930) who was widowed in Jan 1900 and is living with with mother and stepfather Samuel Disney in June 1900. This Albert claims his parents were born in DC. Apparently his wife Belle b. 1870 with parents born in Ireland died 6 April 1903 of heart troubles, and was buried on 8 April 1903 at St Peters Cemetery. Living with them in 1900 is a daughter Maggie born Mar 1885 who is probablt Belle's daughter since she has 2/1 children listed in 1900 census. I am pretty sure this is Jeremiah Alfred Peddicord (born in DC and died 1 Dec 1904) the son of Jeremiah Peddicord and Celinda Speakes allthough the ages do not quite match.

Emma Peddicord married 23 Aug 1883 in Grundy Co., IL to George M. Keeny. She was born 1857 daughter of John and Sarah Peddicord so this one is solved Although George died in 1893, and not sure what happend to Emma.
The death certificate for Edward Ernest Emmart (b. 14 apr 1872 in Baltimore and died 16 Nov 1911 in Pittsburgh list his parents as Henry D Emmart and Emma Peddicord. The Emmart family has marriages with the Peddicords and other related families in the Woodlawn area of Baltimore County, and I know the lineage of Henry D Emmart and I share a common ancestor with him, but his wife Emma V (b. 10 Aug 1850 and died 7 Feb 1942) is a mystery that may require finding her death certifciate. In the census records she starting listing her birth place as Kentucky and then used Missouri. The birthplace of her parents varied census to census and included New York, England, England and Scotland. which would tend to contadict the death certificate information that she was a Peddicord. .

Grace Peddicord married 13 Dec 1882 in Iroquois Co., IL George Hedges. The only person in the 1880 census of Iroquois county was with a similar name was Gracie Peddycoart the 8 year old daughter of Willis Peddycoart recent searches on Family Search and Ancestry have not found the marriage record nor can I find a George Hedges with a wife named Grace in the census.
Grant Peddicord Grant was born ca. 1863-1865 in OH (Brown County apparently). His mother was Mahala (nee Thomas) Peddicord the widow of Jacob Peddicord who died apparently before 1850 (Or was away from his family in 1850 and 1860 census) they had a daughter Diana C born ca Feb 1850 and died in 1874, leaving her husband Abraham Remley and a daughter Sallie Alma. Tentatively this Jacob Peddicord is placed as a son of Nicholas and Cynthia Craighead and presumed to have died before 1850. Mahala is identifed as a widow in 1870. Grant gives his father as J Peddicord on the marriage license to Dora Fite however. Right now not sure who the father of Grant was. Given the long peridod from Diana C to Grant's birth they do not seem to share the same father.

The family appears in 1860 census as John age 35 (or 25) a laborer b VA with Mathania age 18, Lucianna age 2 and Henrietta age 2/4. She was mis-listed as Henry in the family group sheet.
Mary B Pedicord died 23 March 1926 in Noble Co., OH per death index. cet 52233. Glenn Peddicord obtained that certificate. it states she was female white married wife of J S Pedicord. she was born 28 July 1861 Noble Co parents were Wm Brownriff and Frances More. Informent was Woodie Rutherford of Caldwell. buried at Manchester Ohio Aug 25, 1926. Looking better at the records, the name on the Death Certificate is Mary Bzman (Bozman) and I originally though her father was Brownriff. There are handwritting issues, turns out she is Mary Brownrigg was married on 28 July 1881 to T J Bozman in Noble Co., OH. There is an obit for her on find-a-grave that explains why we had trouble placing her, her second husband was John Petticord of Eureka AK, This seems to be John Simon Peddicord who was born in Ohio About Nov 1851, John and Mary are in the 1920 census in Carroll Co., AK and in 1910 in Pickaway Co., OH. John can be found in the 1930 census as a widower.
Jennie Peddicord born ca 1862 - 1870. She is in the Indiana Co., PA Alms House, White Twp. in 1920 census listed as being single born in PA and parents b PA. age 50, In 1910 census she is also in the County Home, listed then as age 48 single b PA parents b PA and being illiterate. I think she is the aka Mary Jane Peddicord the daughter of John Peddicrd and Ellen Bowers, and it seems that she was not alone in the poor house, in 1910 her 12 year old nephew is also in the Alms House. Seems that John married a second time Elizabeth Wakefield and had a child Anna May (Annie) born in 1879, who was an orphan by 1896 when she went to work as a domestic for the Lutheran minister. A year later she accused the minister of rape and adultrey, then at 18 married a recently widowed James Stiffey. Six months later they had a child born Azariah who appears in the Alms house in the 1910 census. His father is off in Westmoreland County living with a nephew, and his mother - well she died in Pittsburgh on 29 July 1924.

Lucy Petticor born ca 1863 in MD, found in the 1880 census of New Castle Co. DE as a niece of May Smith age 24, who also had another niece Jane age 21 with her. I believe Lucy is Mary L Petticord the daughter of James Henry Peddicord and Lydia Ann Smith. Although Mary L is enumerated with her parents in Kent Co., MD in 1880, Lydia Ann had a sister Martha who was born ca 1856.

Charles Marion Kirkpatrich was born on 10 July 1897 in Byrd Twp,, Brown Co. OH and the parents are Ben F Kilpatrick and Sarah M PETTICORD of Byrd Twp. The marriage license for Charles M Kirkpatrick lists his mother as Melvina Peddicord. So it seems that Sarah Melvina (Mollie) Peddicord was the first wife of Benjamin. She is the daughter of Andrew Peddicord and Sarah Palmer

Sarah Peddicord married 12 Jul 1883 in Calhoun Co., IA to Philip Kagrice. Phillip was a civil war veteran born 1836 in Bedford Co., PA and died 1896 in Paton, Greene Co., IA. The key to solving this brickwall was the 1885 census of Iowa, that Showed Phillip age 48 with Sarah age 45, a William H Kagrice age 19, and Frank Petticord age 13, Nettie age 11 and Bail? age 7. This allowed me to determine that Sarah was Sarah E Taylor the widow of John Peddicord. Sarah applied for and recieved a widows pension in 1896 from Phillp's service.

So she must have been Mary Emeline One ancestry line lists her as Mary Emiline Beason b 29 May 1846 and died 8 Oct 1922, Blue Lick, Saline Co., MO other information out there claim she was a Swain. But who her father of Violet was remains a mystrey

William is a widower in McLean Co., IL in 1920, the couple outlived their 9 children, including a Clarence and Frances, but had a granddaughter Lillie b. ca 1896 in MO. I found their marriage in Montgomery Co. KY on 21 Dec 1881, Miss Lizzie Patton to Joseph William Petticord. So in 1880 in Montgomery Co., KY we find Nathaniel and Fannie Petticord with their family including William age 20. Therefore It seems this William who moved to IL was the some of Nathaniel and Fannie (who moved to Missouri)

Forence lists her parents as John Pedicord and Emma Peddicord. Well she is the daughter of Emma L Peddicord who was the daugher of Milton Ezekial Pedicord and Elasine Davis. But the father was not known. in 1900 Emma is reported as married and in 1910 she is divorced living with her parents and Florence. In 1920 Florence is living with her mother and reported to be single. So was her father named John? or that was invented for the purpose of the license?

Emma Peddicord born ca 1890 in PA, appears in 1820 census of Clarksburg WVA with uncle Thomas Peddicord. She was apparently born at sea and her parents were German. She is an adopted child in 1900 census in household of Thomas B's mother Hannah (nee Allison) Peddicord widow of Richard. After Hannah died, Thomas Benton Peddicord then looked after her and is referred to as her uncle or father in census records and listed as her father on her marriage license to Louie Wolfes.

However there is a connect William C Peddicord b 1832 in KY married Bettie Brooks 5 Feb 1858 in Platte Co., MO and in 1860 is living in household of Bettie's mother Harriet. So maybe William C Peddicord was the brother in law of Anna Brooks.
Esther Peddicord born ca 1893 in OH, her mother was Minnie Guile. In 1900 census of Williamsburg, Clermont Co., Esther and her mother are living with Minnie's father. In 1910 Esther was living on her own in Williamsburg OH. Her father was Robert C Peddicord who married Minnie Guild on 20 Nov 1892 in Brown Co., OH. This was an odd marriage as R C Peddicord was born in 1819 and Minnie in 1875, so she was 56 years younger, but R C Peddicord's will leaves money to Esther N Peddicord his daughter by his second wife, so there is no doubt he fathered Minnie when he was 74 years old. The probate papers filed 15 August indicate that RC left no widow, probate pleadings on 16 August 1900 state that notice of the will was given to Esther Peddicord, who was under the age of 12 through notice given to Margaret Guild with who the minor resides Futher diving into this family had some intesting results. The birth register for Minnie Lu Guild gives her birth date as 10 Jan 1874 but notes she was illegitimate and does not list her parents names. She married Robert C Peddicord Sr. on 20 Nov 1892 when he was 74 years old. Esther N Peddicord was born 20 Sept 1893 with her parents as R C Peddicord and Minnie L Guild. The marriage to Robert C did not last long as Minnie then married Uriah N Wisby on 12 Apr 1896 in Brown County. From the union a daughter was born 29 March 1898; her name was not given, but based on census records was Jolene or Irine M. In 1900 census Minnie is with her parents and two daughters (Esther Peddicord and Jolene? Wisby. Minnie then married 17 April 1904 to Henry Moler. In the marriage license to Henry she lists her parents as Hary? Guild and Maggie Jones. (her ex-husband Uriah Wisby also remarried in 1904). Esther Peddicord apparently married Walter Everett Stouder (b. 10 Sept 1876, d, 23 Sept 1963). She suffered a miscarriage as a result of buggy accident 7 May 1912 in Wayne Twp., Clermont Co., OH and another premature birth at 23 weeks on 13 Dec 1912 in Sycamore Twp., Hamilton Co., OH. Walter lists Esther as next of kin on his WW I draft registration in 1918 in Chillicothe, Ross Co., OH. At that point I loose track of Esther. In 1930 her husband remarried ca 1929 Maud R Malott and had three children.

She was married Jerry Mattingly on 12 Jan 1897 in McDonald Co., MO. She had several children with him, but by 1910 he is listed in the census as beign divorced and living by himself. Dora Jane Mattingly is living in Benton Co., Ark in 1910 with 7 of her 8 children and lists herself as being widowed. She then married J M Van Meter on 22 Jan 1915 in McDonald Co., MO. she was than married again on 3 Jan 1939 in PIneville, McDonald Co., MO to Chalres B Peddicord. He find the couple in the 1940 census in Elk River, McDonald Co., MO Dora was the third wife of Charles B Peddicord (24 Jun 1867 in Ind - 13 Feb 1952 McDonald Co., MO) whow was the son of Higgerson Peddicord and Eliza Torrence.
J. Brownell Peddicord married 12 June 1912 Dimmit Co TX to Elizabeth S. Budd, the date should be 29 June 1912 and Bexar Co. after reading the originial record. This is Jasper Brownell Peddicord son of John Franklin Peddicord and Anna Frederickson. Jasper died in St Bernard Parish LA in 1952. Some interesting things on Elizabeth. Found appointment of guardian for her and her sibblings Otho W Budd and Margaret Sanderson Budd in Milwaukee, Wis in August 1904. The will of her mother, Elizabeth Sanderson Budd was dated 30 August 1890 in Ashville, NC. which name her husband as Capt Otho W Budd, but states she was of Milwaukee Wis. There is a passport application in 1892 my her mother that included Elizabeth and her brother Otho W that provided dates and places of birth. It would seem that her will was probated in NC and Margaret died there in 1901, but the children were with her sister-in-law Caroline S Berry in Milwaukee who was appointed their guaridan on 10 Dec 1901. Elizabeth's father was born in PA and was an officer in the US Army.

Peddicord born in 1884 in Ohio Co WVA (birth register) looking at the record her parents are identified as Alex and Helen and date of birth 20 Dec 1884 there is an issue in that the birth register also lists a Nellie Petticord born 14 Jan 1885 to Alex and Helen. It seems that Mary Helen and Nellie are the same person, why there are two differnt entries 3 weeks apart for the same parents under different names is a mystery.

It also lists her age as 34 and born in KY. This is all fouled up. It appears in reality she is Nannie Belle Pollard, the ex-wfe of Elmer Elsworth Petticord. Her mother was Sarah Marksbury by other accounts.

An Indiana Co. PA mystery-- First off Amanda C Peddicord (16 Feb 1879 - 29 June 1913) married ca 1895 John Clevanger. On her death certificate her parents are listed as Joseph Peddicord and Nettie Brilhart. Second: Ida M Peddicord (born 1 May 1870 or 1872 on the marriage license) married John Gibson on 21 Dec 1896 in Indiana Co., on the marriage license her parents are listed as Joseph Peddicord. but on her death certificate, her son lists her parents as Elija Peddicord and Elizabeth Evans, the later did have a daughter Ida b ca 1871 (age 9 in the 1880 census) futher Elizabeth in 1920 has a grandson living with her that seems to be the son of John Gibson. There is a Walter Peddicord living with John and Ida in 1900 which I assume must be Waldo Pedditicord. I guess Amanda's father could be the Joseph Peddicord who was born 10 Feb 1857 and died 30 Aug 1918, but only seems to appear in the 1860 census with his parents and no other record found so far until his death in 1918.

I first thought this might be Edward William Peddycord b. Dec 1887 in IND who married Louise C Huebener in 1909 at Portland OR. In 1920 census Louise gives her status as Divorced and in 1930 as widowed. New finding is that he was married three times, 2nd wife was Eleanor Rieger who he married 30 Aug 1917 in Detroit while in the army. the last wife was Olga Mae Lasslett (b. 1899 in Wayne CO., MI) who he married in 1920 at Detroit MI. A death notice was published for Edward William PEDDYCORD of Detroit that indicates he was stricken with apoplexy while driving his car through the village of Fort Thomas KY on 31 Jan 1923.

In his marriage license, (issued in Vancouver BC) Edward Newton listed his parents as John W Pettichord and Lucinda Edwards.

Have correctly identified the wife of William T Petticord (b. 29 Apr 1906, died Hawaii July 1986) as Edna J LUOMA daughter of Matt/Madd Luoma and Josephine Maqi. Her parents were in Wisconsin ca 1896 to 1901 where they had two daughters born, Jennie K and Lulu M. They went back to Finland-Russia briefly and had two sons born there (John and Oscar) then came to Washington where they had children: Leo and Lilia (twins born 12 Oct 1907) in King Co., and then Edna J and Ivy
