I'm looking for more information on my paternal grandfather, AB HIGHTOWER. Some info. I've found on him lists him as A. HIGHTOWER. We always called him DAD and my father DADDY, so I have no other information as to his full name if there was one. He was born in Morehouse Parish, Bastrop, LA on August 18, 1889. His other brotheres and a sister were born in Arkansas. However, there were 2 additional brothers who left home early;one returning to LA and one going to TX. Their names are unknown. My grandfather died Jan.1965 and is buried in Cowpen Pond CEmetary, Grand Ridge, FL which is an old pioneer and Civil War cemetary according to my dad. My father is very ill with heart problems and I hope to find out some of this info. before he passes on. AB's father's name is suppose to be John and his mother's name is unknown. There is French and Indian blood in their family line and it's possible there is no recording of the family's being in Bastrop. If anyone could help me with this, I'd be more than greatful.

I was in Sardis, Miss. a few weeks back doing family research and came across this article in an old newspaper about a horrible murder. It states a gentleman in this city just from Lake Providence, La. informs us that a horrible murder was committed by some slaves upon the body of their master, W.H. Harvey of that neighborhood on Saturday the 21.st. It goes on to say that the slave took care of W.H. Harvey when he was a child. I believe this man to be my gggfather as I have heard this story from my mother since I was a small child. I do not know the date of the newspaper but it has to be some where between 1850 and 1880.   My sister and I are researching the Wooten family name and I think W.H. Harvey was my gggmother Wootens dad. My sister can be reached at tbking@cwsnet. com. We would be most greatful for more information.

My Grandparents Sarah Belle Windham Musselwhite Vance and William Dalton Vance moved to West Carroll Parish sometime after 1910 US Census. My Father James Dalton Vance born July 1912 (in MS.) graduated from Kilbourne High School. My father had one brother Henry Vance and four half brothers Otto Musselwhite, Doc (??) Musselwhite, John Musselwhite, and Steward Musselwhite.

My grandparents (Sarah Belle Windham Musselwhite Vance and William Dalton Vance and Doc Musselwhite (Not sure of his full name) are buried in Kilbourne Cemetery. Doc was killed in a accident with a logging truck. My grandparents lived out from Chickasaw ?? and I believe their neighbor was Nickel Roberts who was either sheriff or a deputy sheriff. My Grandparents sold their farm in the early 1950 and moved to Baton Rouge next door to their son Henry. My Grandmother(Sarah Belle Windham Musselwhite Vance) died in Baton Rouge around 1956 and buried at Kilbourne. My Grandfather (William Dalton Vance died in Monroe La around 1959 and was buried at Kilbourne. As I recall the Funerals were held in the Kilbourne Baptist Church the arrangements were handled by a Funeral Home in Oak Grove. One of the families in the area that I recall visiting inaddition to the Roberts was named Flowers. I believe that he taught at Kilbourne High School.

I have been unable to locate Sarah and William Dalton in the 1920 MS ARK or LA US Census. In 1920 William Dalton Father (GEORGE WASHINGTON VANCE) was living in Drew County Ark.

In 1910 US CENSUS Sarah and William VANCE were living in Grenada MS. Sarah first husband had died (MUSSELWHITE). My Father James Dalton Vance was born in Carroll County MS but in looking at the Record I appears that he was borne in Montgomery County. He always said Duck Hill or Elliott.

My Mother Irma Mora Riser Vance met my Farther James Dalton Vance when she taught at Kilbourne High School in the 1930's when he returned home to visit his parents. He was living and working in Trona California.

John Musselwhite met his wife Maude Moore who was a teacher at the Kilbourne High School and had taught my Father. John was an engineer for Missouri Pacific RR and moved to Monroe/West Monroe. Maude Retired as a teacher from West Monroe High School. Steward taught in Oak Dale, LA. Otto was an engineer also with Missouri Pacific RR. Henry worked for Esso in Baton Rouge.
