Natchitoches Parish: Middle Creek Cemetery

MIDDLE CREEK CEMETERY

Middle Creek Cemetery, established in 1872, is located between Bellwood (Natchitoches Parish) and Peason (Sabine Parish), actually being within the present confines of Sabine Parish. Being adjacent to the many small settlements of the area, it was used by families whose descendants now are situated in both parishes.

Traveling from Natchitoches, visitors should go west on LA Hwy 6 to Hagewood, and turn south on LA Hwy 117. Approximately 20 miles south, just past the village of Bellwood, turn west onto Forest Road 304. Continue about 6 miles and turn north onto Barron Road, then about 1 mile to the cemetery and Middle Creek Church.

If traveling from Many, LA, visitors should take LA Hwy 171 south to Florien, turn east on LA Hwy 118 and travel past the Mt. Carmel community for several miles before turning east onto Herrington Road (which becomes Forest Road 304 once into Natchitoches Parish).

For visitors traveling from Natchitoches, it is much nearer to use the Hwy 117 and FS 304 entrance. However, FS 304 traverses the Kisatchie Creek bottomlands and is almost impassable in rainy weather, so it is suggested that the longer Hwy 118 route be used in inclement weather.

This listing begins at the northeast corner, row 1, south, then north up row 2, etc.

Submitted by Richard Sterling, Robert Sheldon, and Nelda G. Liles, 2001.
