Natchitoches Parish, LA: Moss Cemetery

Bellwood, Natchitoches Parish, LA

From LA HWY 117, turn west on Bellwood Church Road, then go approximately 2 miles. There will be a small road that cuts off to the right into the woods. Pass a fenced-in gravesite (Masseys) on the left and then not very far after that the road will turn back to the left. Stop here and walk down the clay road until it dead-ends into an unmarked cemetery. Local residents indicate that this is the Moss Cemetery.

There are a number of burials which are either unmarked, or marked but with no names or dates. Many of the burials are marked only by large rocks.

The cemetery is in an area of rolling hills and deep ravines. While in need of tender loving care, the cemetery has a sense of quiet solitude, shaded by large trees that are draped with moss.
