On Thursday, August 23, 2018, James H. Melton passed away at the age of 77. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, known for being kind and compassionate. James was born in Tallulah, Louisiana to Vergie and William Melton. He lived in West Monroe, Louisiana during his adult life and retired from International Paper. He and his wife, Syble, decided to spend their retirement years at the Palmyra Landing in Tallulah. James loved the outdoors and spent his golden years fishing and hunting around the Mississippi River where he grew up as a child. He lived a humble life, but felt he was greatly blessed in life and shared his walk with God often. His grandchildren loved his life stories, silly flimflam vocabulary, and will always cherish memories of how much fun they had with their Papaw.

James is preceded in death by his parents, William Melton and Vergie Barnett, step father, Grover Barnett, brother in law, Bill Martin, and nephew, Richard Melton.

He is survived by his wife, Syble Melton, children, James Melton, Jr. and wife, Christie, Michelle Favinger, Judy Little and husband, Mark, Sam Whittaker and wife, Elizabeth, and Tammy Roberts, grandchildren, Jamie Underwood and husband, Justin, Alaina and Jacob Little, Michael Favinger, Sam Whitaker II, Ginger Roberts, and Chyenne Brown, great grandchildren, Madison and Ashlyn Underwood, and Aria Fletcher, siblings, Pete and Janice Melton, Anna Martin, Brenda and John Russell, Eddie Barnett, James Barnett, and Bubba Barnett, and many nieces and nephews.
