The October 2006 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette Public Library on October 19, 2006 at 6:30 P.M. Following the stuffing of favor bags for registrants to the Ancestral Footprints Conference by society members, the meeting was called to order by President Jean Kiesel.  A moment of silence was observed, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Visitors were recognized and they spoke of family names they were researching.

For the first Saturday commitment to the library, Brenda Fuselier volunteered.  Regarding the December Christmas Banquet: a dining room is reserved for Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at 6 P.M.  Jean Kiesel has received the menu and Brenda will notify the Petroleum Club about the societys selection.  The names of speakers were suggested for Jean to contact.

Jean reported that a heritage day is being held in St.Martinville on November 11, 2006 to celebrate ethnic groups that have settled in the area.  The society has been invited by the organizers to have a booth to offer information, sell wares or food, etc. for $50.00 per booth.  It was suggested that we do participate to get our name publicized.  Jean will get more information from Yvonne Saloom, one of the organizers, and notify the membership.
