Volume 2007 Issue 11 15 November 2007 Meeting https://sites.rootsweb.com/~lalgs/ The November 2007 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette Public Library on November 15, 2007 at 6:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Charles Patterson. A moment of silence was observed, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Johnny Fuselier, president of the Ville Platte Genealogical Society was a visitor. The minutes and treasurer�s report are posted on our website. Les Memories needs articles for the annual publication; please submit material to Warren LeBlanc, who edits, or to President Charles Patterson. The CD is currently being formatted. Charles reminded all members that the Christmas Banquet will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at the Petroleum Club beginning at 6:30 P.M. Officers for 2008 will be installed at that time. The menu will be similar to years past with a chicken and fish entr�e, plus vegetables, salad, and deserts. With no guest speaker available and no projector at the Petroleum Club, Charles and/or Earl will be in charge of the program. Martha Luby will be in charge of collecting and purchasing our door prizes. The minister of Grace Presbyterian Church and his wife will be invited as guests of the society. The Cemetery Committee of Dottie, and Glenda have completed the pictures of the headstones at Fountain Memorial Cemetery, except for the highest crypts within the mausoleum. Glenda reported that an addendum will be made. Pictures of headstones will be posted on the society�s web page; an index will be available in our publication. Dottie Burleigh reports that the library has received the two volume DAR Recognized Patriots which is the Lafayette Genealogical Society�s commitment to the library of a genealogical book each year valued of at least fifty dollars. book to members of the society. The books are also available at Barnes and
Nobles and other venues around Lafayette President Charles Patterson and Earl Gates presented the program �What Do You Want to Know About Genealogy, Internet, or Computers?� Earl began the program by stating his objectives and goals for 2008. He suggested that each member prepare a written family history with charts, pictures, etc. with the end product a published news print paper or book that can be sold or placed in libraries. Charles told the membership about Picasa, a free download for Photo web albums and storage. Google Pack is another free download that searches ones own computer for word phrases; it helps locate information you have in your computer. There are many options available.
