The  February 2008 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette Public Library on February 21, 2008 at 6:30 P.M. President Elect Rogers Romero called the meeting to order.  There was a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance was given.
The minutes and treasurers report are posted on the internet at our web site.
President Elect Rogers Romero recognized a visitor, Mark Beyonce, who is researching the family names of Broussard, Labbe, Aubrey, and Beyonce; he was encouraged to become a member of the society.  For announcements, all members were encouraged to pay their dues.
Charles Patterson presented the program of Sharing Our Genealogy.  He discussed the value of sharing by developing a family web site.  On it pictures and family stories and histories can be shared.  People viewing the sites may come out of the wood work to contact you about your mutual families offering information, pictures, and other data.  Charles reviewed the submitted pictures of our website and encouraged members to submit pictures of their families.  Pictures of the Cemetery Project were reviewed.  Previous cemetery recording projects were discussed.  Pictures of officers, members, and society events were reviewed.
Charles told society members of picnik, a free imaging processing program.  A streamlined version costs $25 per year.  Just type in picnik and a list will come up.  This program seems to be a little better than Picasa.
On building a family web page, Charles reminded society members that the Google Gadgets that he spoke of at a previous meeting is helpful and easy to navigate through.  The value of establishing a web page is to place an individuals family and its branches in a place that can be viewed.  It is a published account of your family history.
It was announced that the March meeting will be held March 20, 2008 at the library.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
