Volume 2006 Issue 7 The Minutes of the 17 August 2006 Meeting https://sites.rootsweb.com/~lalgs/  The August 2006 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Lafayette Public Library, Lafayette, LA on August 17, 2006 at 6:30 P.M.  The meeting was called to order by President Jean Kiesel.  The Pledge of Allegience was given and a moment of silence was observed. Jean reminded the membership that the end of year annual banquet is approaching and to set aside a date, usually the first week in December, and make plans to attend.  Daniel Besse is the chairman; possible speakers were discussed.  Daniel will be contacted about firming up plans, speakers, and offering assistance from the members. The first Saturday in September is Labor Day weekend; Brenda Fuselier volunteered to be available in the genealogy section of the library since it will be opened then. The society conference, Ancestral Footprints, will be held October 21, 2006 at the Grace  Presbyterian Church in Lafayette, LA.  Dottie Burleigh, as Coordinator of the conference, called upon Committee Chairmen to give a report of their committees.  Martha Luby on Food reported that Schotsky�s was very positive and accommodating and could deliver for 11 A.M.  Other servers were unable to fill our needs.  Harold Prejean reported that brochures had been mailed to state libraries and genealogical societies.  Earl Gates has secured some time on several local talk shows for publicizing the conference.  He is also securing gift bag items from the Tourist Commission and other local businesses.  Dottie reported that 20 conference slots has been scheduled for speakers.  The whole membership will be needed to help at registration, as hosts and hostesses, and, really, to circulate the brochures and talk up the conference wherever the member goes.  Jean Kiesel gave a tentative schedule.  Charles will need help setting up on Friday.  The conference will need some baked goods for the conference.  Parking will be at the back of the church and Alleman school will be open to offer parking for attendees.  Also, when the conference is over, members are needed to help clean up.  Members are asked to pre-register.  There will be tables for vendors.  So far, the major expenses have been printing of the brochures; there have been one thousand printed so far.  At this time Warren LeBlanc reported that six people have pre-registered. For the annual publication Warren requested that members please turn in information, stories, etc.  Jean suggested that each member turn in five pages for that publication. Dottie Burleigh then presented a shortened version of her conference talk about qualifications and the method of acquiring membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Dottie suggested http://www.dar.org for more information.  There is a  Patriot Lookup and genealogy area that will be helpful.
