On April 19, 2012, The Lafayette Genealogical Society held it's monthly meeting. Brenda Fuselier, President opened meeting with a moment of silence for our ancestors and those who have served or who are currently serving our country. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

New members and guests were introduced: Francis Syfan, Elaine Kellye, Betty Venable Hollier, Judy Trahan, and Bob and Billy Henry.

Treasurers report: Beginning balance $3,187.77, dues collected $60, books sold $171.00. Ending balance $3,418.77.

Warren LeBlanc reported on the storage space. The least expensive one is South Park Storage Facilities would be $30.00 a month if paid annually, with 1st month $1.00. This storage will be used to store publications, scrapbooks, flags, etc.

Jane Baker is working on the obits from 1997 to 2003.

Warren LeBlanc made a draft of the St. Alphonse Cemetery in Maurice, and will need volunteers to record each grave site. The forms from “find-A-Grave” will be used.

Brenda Fuselier, Murella Wilkerson and Vi Fontenot attended the Family Search Computer class.

Earl Gates gave a presentation on indexing the 1940 Census. There are about 8 of LGS members indexing.

Dorothy Burleigh showed a large pedigree chart that she did on her family.

Baton Rouge Genealogical Society Annual Seminar will be held on April 28, at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge. Brenda Fuselier is planning on attending and anyone wishing to go contact her.

There will be an Hebert reunion in Houma on April 21, 2012.

There will be a Cajun French Convention at the Begnaud House in Scott on Saturday, May 2-4th. There will be a music jam session on Friday, at 6 p.m.
