The September meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held on September 18, 2014 in the Meeting Room of the South Regional Library, 1601 Johnston St. at 6:00 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Brenda Thibodeaux. There was a moment of silence to remember our servicemen; the Pledge of Allegiance followed. All were welcomed and guests were recognized.

There was no old business to take care of.

President Brenda Thibodeaux announced that the annual End of Year Banquet will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Bailey's Restaurant at 12:30 P.M. It was requested that reservations be made early with Warren LeBlanc in order to get an estimate of the number of people that will be attending.

The New Acadia Project was discussed. It was at the Society's First Saturday gathering in July that two ULL interns visited and discussed the New Acadie Project to locate, undertake anthropology digs, and research historical documents to discover the first Acadian settlement in Louisiana, c. 1765, in the area of today's Loreauville. Member Herb Scheuermann made a motion to make a society contribution of $300.00 to the New Acadie Project. The motion was seconded and a discussion followed. Some society members desired to contribute personally; it was approved that those donations would be added to the base amount that the society would donate. The motion passed.

President Brenda Thibodeaux announced that in October Dr. Julie Fredericks, ULL Professor of History and Director of ULL's Honors Program, would be speaking to the society about the Basques, an ancient people and culture located in Spain along the French border in the Pyrennes Mountains.

The Society's November speaker, Janie Bulliard will be unable to attend the November meeting. Dr. Mark Rees, Head of Sociology and Anthropology at ULL, will speak on Updates on the New Acadie Project.

The slate for Officers for 2014 will be announced at the October meeting; voting will be in November.

Treasurer Warren LeBlanc asked that members having used ink cartridges turn them in to him for discounts for society supplies. He showed the New Members Handbook being prepared for new members of the Lafayette Genealogical Society.

Everett Thompson informed members that the society website is still being worked on, but that it is available for members to access at lalgs. Password protection, for members only, is still in a process.

There being no further business a motion was made to adjourn. The motion was seconded and the meeting was adjourned.
