18 October 2012 Meeting

On October 18th, 2012, the Lafayette Genealogical Society was called to order by Brenda Fuselier, President. A moment of silence for deceased ancestors and those who have served or still serving in the military was observed, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

The officers nominations for the upcoming year was announced:
President - Pat Snyder
Vice President - Brenda Hebert Thibodeaux
1st Vice President - Calise Breaux
Secretary - Betty Hollier
Treasurer - Warren LeBlanc

Since there were no oppositions, James Bourque motioned to vote this slate of officers in, Lona Bourque 2nd. Motion passed.

The LGS annual Christmas Banquet will be held December 6th, at the Petroleum Club. Admission will be $20.00.

On November 3rd, there will be tours of the Grand Coteau Grave Yard and Church. There will be two tours, one at 11:30 and 1:30.

The author of the book “Bobby Dunbar Killing” will be at several libraries for a signing.

President introduced Laura Charney, guest speaker, who gave a very information talk on digitizing Louisiana Newpapers. She also spoke on the LSU Special Collections Library and how newspapers are gathered and preserved. LSU Special Collections Library has the largest selection of digitized newspapers in the state.

James Bourque motioned that meeting be adjourned, Lona 2nd. Meeting was adjourned and members enjoyed refreshments.
