On
August 18th, 2011 the Lafayette Genealogical Society
monthly meeting was called to order by President
Brenda Fuselier with the Pledge of Allegiance and a
moment of silence for those serving or have served our
country.
Pam and
Dennis Carr, who�s forming a genealogy society in
Scott, and Wayne and Annette Tweedel�s daughter were
introduced as visitors.
Guest speaker and LGS
member, Leonard Smith, with LS3 Studios, spoke on how
he had searched and compiled his family history. His
grandmother worked at Nottaway Plantation and told him
many stories. He also used Familyhistory.com and
Genealogybank.com. He has worked for Kodak since 1975.
He showed us a very interesting slide show of some of
his work place and his family. He told us how he
compiled information from living relatives, searching
the forementioned web sites and how we should document
any and all information.
Information of the Grand
Revile Acadien/Great Acadian Awakening was discussed;
Thursday, October 13th,
with opening ceremonies at the Cajun Dome Convention
Center where Stephen White will give a presentation.
On Saturday, October 15th,
he will be LDS�s guest speaker in the auditorium at
the South Regional Library. Notifications will be sent
to television and radio
stations, newspapers, and other societies.
