William Thibodeaux called the Lafayette Genealogy Society to order June 16, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. the new library on Johnson Street. After the opening ritual he welcomed Mr. Bill Stafford, director of reference services at the Louisiana State Archives, Baton Rouge. Mr. Stafford distributed a guide to the power point program of the collections at the Louisiana Archives. He encouraged us to make use of the friendly, helpful services of his staff in pursuing our genealogy. His presentation was enthusiastically recieved by a large group.

After a short break for refreshments, the business meeting resumed.

Earlier this month the Society toured the Lafayette Parish Courthouse. Our website now lists all of the records that are available to the public for aid in searching family records.

On Saturday, June 26, 2010 everyone is invited to take a road trip to Eunice to visit the Eunice Depot Museum. The Cajun Music Hall of Fame Museum, the Jean Lafitte culture Center and the historic Liberty Theater. Afterwards we can meet at Nick's Cafe'.

We have completed the inventor of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Broussard and they are now available in both CD and book form. For Members the book or CD is $15.00. For non members the cost is $20.00 each.

There will be a cemetery tour of St. John's July 19 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. conducted by Pete Lavegne.

Everyone is reminded and encouraged to submit their family tree charts and family histories and stories, along with pictures of ancestors.

Respectfully submitted,
