On Sept 15, 2011, the Lafayette
Genealogical Society monthly meeting was called to
order by President Brenda Fusilier with a moment
of silence and the Pledge of Alligence.
Guests Elaine Demitte and Roland Broussard
were introduced to the members present. Mr. Roland
Broussard donated a beautiful banner with our
Society name.
Grand Revive was
discussed, with the opening in New Orleans, then
Houma, Lake Charles and last but not least
Lafayette. LGS member Dorothy Burleigh is planning
the Lafayette GRA activities. LGS member Pat
Synder will be hosting Stephen White, renowned
author on genealogy. He will be speaking Thursday
on Cajun Identity at the Cajun Dome. On Saturday,
October 15th,
he will be LGS guest speaker on the proper manner
for genealogy research at the South Regional
Library in Lafayette.
LGS member Glenda Shaw suggested that when
there is a guest speaker for any meeting that we
provide transportation to and from meeting.
LGS member, Brenda Hebert Thibodeaux gave
a small presentation on items that were made by
Dudley J. LeBlanc.
Ville Platte will be
having a celebration of Evangeline Parish being
100 yrs old on October 30th.
LGS Christmas banquet
will be held December 8th,
at the Petroleum Club. Carl Brasseaux will be
guest speaker.
John Sellers, Genealogy researcher will be
guest speaker at the March 2012 meeting.
