I am looking for information about the FLOYD family. My great-great grandmother's name was Mary Virginia "Jennie" FLOYD, born December, 1868, in LA, supposedly near Lake Providence. Her father, was, according to family stories, a "hard-headed" Irishman, who owned a plantation. He was also supposed to have been involved in a feud, which started when he was accused by his neighbor of stealing heifers. Mr. Floyd then killed the neighbor,as well as the two sons who came after him for revenge. I don't know if this is true, but I would love to find out!

I was in Sardis, Miss. a few weeks back doing family research and came across this article in an old newspaper about a horrible murder. It states a gentleman in this city just from Lake Providence, La. informs us that a horrible murder was committed by some slaves upon the body of their master, W.H. HARVEY of that neighborhood on saturday the 21. inst. It goes on to say that the slave took care of W.H. HARVEY when he was a child. I believe this man to be my gggfather as I have heard this story from my mother since I was a small child. I do not know the date of the newspaper but it has to be some where between 1850 and 1880.  My sister and I are researching the WOOTEN family name and I think W.H. HARVEY was my gggmother WOOTEN'S dad. My sister can be reached at tbking@cwsnet. com. We would be most greatful for more information.
