Aerial View of Lake Providence
Hello and welcome to East Carroll Parish, Louisiana. I
am Ann Allen Geoghegan, your County Coordinator, and I hope I am able to
help you in your family history research. This site, like all GenWeb sites,
is dedicated to the availability of public records for public viewing.
Genealogy is a lot of fun, but it should not cost a lot of money for public
records. If you are being charged to view this site, please
contact me.
If you have records or sources of information about
East Carroll Parish and its pioneers, I would love to have you share your
information with us. If you are willing to look up information for other
people, please let me know so I can put the people in touch with you. If you
have comments, questions, or suggestions, you can
email
me, and we will see if we can get together.
You may also use the automatic Submission forms for
submitting to the LAGenWeb Archives. They are located
here or
here.
East Carroll Parish
An Act was
approved on March 14, 1832 for the creation of the Parish of Carroll, out of
the northern part of the original Concordia Parish created in 1809 and the
eastern part of Ouachita Parish. Carroll Parish was named in honor of
Charles Carroll in 1832, a philanthropist, statesman and signer of the
Declaration of Independence. Lake Providence was the first seat of
government. Carroll Parish was divided into two parishes in 1877. The
division solved a feud over the site of the seat of government. Oak Grove
was named the parish seat of
West Carroll Parish.
Bayou Macon formed the boundary between the two parishes. Lake Providence
became the parish seat of East Carroll Parish.

About the Louisiana GenWeb Project
In March and April, 1996, a group of genealogists
organized the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to
provide a single entry point for all counties in Kentucky, where collected
databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and
cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one
county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers
were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and
generally oversee the contents of the web page. The Louisiana GenWeb Project
is an extension of the KY GenWeb Project.
