| Wolfe County was formed in 1860, the
110th of Kentucky's 120 counties to be created. The county was formed
from parts of Breathitt,
Owsley,
Powell,
and Morgan
Counties. Since it's initial creation, Wolfe County has twice lost land
to the formation of newer counties; first to Menifee
County in 1869 and then to Lee
County a year later. Today Wolfe County encompasses 227 square miles. |
