footnote by Betsy Benn

I’m not sure if you would be interested in part of this story for your web page on Wolfe County Industry.  It was written by my grandfather, Daniel Boon Childers.  He was born in Wolfe County but most of the logging he talks about seems to have been in Breathitt or Lee Counties, or in other states.  He also worked on building the railroad around Athol and Monica.  I’m not sure what counties these towns are in.

Daniel Boon Childers was the son of William Jasper and Sarah Jane (White) Childers.  He was born July 11, 1873 on Holly Creek, Kentucky, and died August 11, 1956 in Middletown, Ohio.  He married Margaret Jane Spencer, the daughter of Brantley and Lydia (King) Spencer.

My mother, his youngest child, always asked him to tell her about his early life.  Finally, about 2 years before he died, he wrote down this information and gave it to her.  She is their only child still living, and you do have her permission to use this story on the KyGenWeb.
