Mrs. Rosa Bell PLAYL, 75, wife of W.W. Playl, died at 10 a.m. Monday at her home near Providence after a long illness. Surviving are the husband; eight daughters, Mrs. Whit RICE, of Lisman, Mrs. Verna CHILDERS, of Henderson, Mrs. Everett Childers, Mrs. Elby SIGLER, and Mrs. G.B. HALE, of Upland, Calif., Mrs. Billy OAKLEY and Mrs. J.R. MARTIN, of Providence, and Mrs. Gordon HEARON, of Clay; a son, Buford Playl, Madisonville; a brother, Jimmy HUGHES, Providence; a sister, Mrs. Mary Cobb, Jacksonville, Fla.; eighteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the General Baptist church, with the Rev. C.W. DUFFER officiating, assisted by the Rev. W.M. FRISBY. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Bethel R. POLLEY, 49, former Webster county man, died at 6:40 p.m. Monday in Owensboro of a heart attack. He was stricken at his home there and was dead on arrival at Owensboro-Daviess County hospital. Mr. Polley, a salesman for Union Biscuit Company, was a member of the General Baptist church and Masonic lodge at Poole. Surviving are the wife, Lorene; his mother, Mrs. Emma BEBOUT, Salem; two sons, Ray Lloyd and George R., of Owensboro; one daughter, Mrs. E.W. LIGGETT, Sebree; three grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Polley, Cairo; and one sister, Mrs. Omer REYNOLDS, Providence. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Mike C. POLLEY, 70, formerly of the Little Zion section, died Friday night at his home in Henderson. He was born in Webster county and went to Henderson over twenty years ago. For several years he was superintendent of Audubon State Park. Survivors are the wife, Nora Ellen; and daughter, Mrs. Charles HAMILTON, of Louisville; a son, Kleo, of Henderson; and a brother, Blake Polley, Henderson. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, with the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE, of Poole, and the Rev. W.M. FRISBY, of Providence, officiating. Burial was in Fairmont cemetery, Henderson. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, February 23, 1950.

Mrs. Margaret Anna POMEROY, 73, who had visited her daughter, Mrs. Ottis MORSE in Providence frequently, died Monday, February 25, at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Jesse SHERFIELD, near Herod, Ill. Other survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Ella GULLETT, Pontiac, Mich.; a son, John Kenneth, Pontiac; a brother, Cleve STUNSON, Harrisburg, Ill.; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gaskin City Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, where she had been a member for 40 years. The Rev. Clayton HUMPHREY of Harrisburg and the Rev. BARGER of Golconda, Ill., officiated. Burial was in Ingram Hill cemetery near Harrisburg. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, March 6, 1952.

Mrs. Adele POOLE, 68, died at 2:45 a.m. Saturday in her home in Sebree. Survivors are the husband, S.W. Poole; two daughters, Mrs. Vera MOORE and Mrs. James SMITH, Sebree; three sons Wayne, Andrew and Prentice Poole, all of Sebree; two sisters, Mrs. C.W. CARY, Madisonville, and Mrs. Altha MITCHELL, Indianapolis; two brothers, F.M. BRACKETT, Indianapolis, Ind., and B.A. Brackett, Madisonville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. W.W. OAKLEY and the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Alvis D. POOLE, 43, formerly of Providence, died at 9:15 p.m. Thursday in an Evansville hospital following several days' illness. He was reared here and graduated from Providence High School. He was an inspector at Chrysler Corporation. Survivors are the wife, Jessie; father, Auda N. Poole; sister, Mrs. Ed HODGE; and brother, Orval Poole, all of Evansville. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller and Miller Funeral Home in Evansville, with the Rev. A.L. LUTTRELL officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, Evansville. John Vance POOLE, 85, former state senator from Webster and Henderson counties, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at his home at Tunnel Hill near Cairo. Mr. Poole served in the state senate at Frankfort from 1928 to 1932. Although he had been in ill health for several months death was unexpected. He was a former civil engineer and an extensive farmer. He operated a private school near Cairo for several years. He was a member of the General Baptist church in Poole. Surviving are three sons, Walter and Holloway, at home, and Dewey Poole, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Tim MEINSCHEIN, of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, U.S. Poole, of Poole; a sister, Mrs. Mollie SELLERS of Poole; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. James COX of Oakland City, Ind., officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles POLLEY of Dixon. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, December 19, 1946. Robert Lee POOLE, 85, of Henderson, former Webster county resident, and retired contractor, died at 4 p.m. Monday in the home of a nephew, Lawrence Poole, Manitou rural route. Nieces and nephews survive. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. Ila WHITFIELD, of Mortons Gap, officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove, cemetery, Poole. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, March 24, 1949.

Stace W. POOLE, 79, retired farmer and former Sebree postmaster, died at 4 p.m. Monday at his home on Sebree Route 1, following a stroke which he suffered May 30. Surviving are three sons, Wayne of Robards, Andrew and Prentice Poole, Sebree Route 1; two daughters, Mrs. Vera MOORE, Sebree Route 1, and Mrs. James SMITH, Sebree; two brothers, G.C. Poole of Veachland, and Tom Poole of Marysville, Calif.; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the General Baptist Church in Poole. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, June 18, 1953. Compiler's note: Stace Wilson Poole was the son of George Washington Poole and Rebecca A. Townsend. His wife, who died in 1946, was the former Adele Brackett, who he married Feb 25, 1896, Webster County.

Mrs. Curtis PORTER, the former Miss Jessie WINSTEAD of Wheatcroft, died Sunday at her home in Monette, Ark., following a long illness. Surviving are the husband, a Christian minister, and two brothers, Luther and Roy Winstead of Monette. She was a niece of Ernest and Charlie MARTIN and Mrs. Josie WILLIAMS of Providence. Funeral and burial were held Wednesday in Monette. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, January 13, 1955.

George Gilbert PORTER, 84, died Thursday at his home in Clay. Survivors are the wife, Madge; son Garland of Franklin; brother Hubert of St. Louis, MO; half-brother Goebel of Lexington; and half-sister Mrs. George BRADFORD of Falmouth. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Clay General Baptist Church with the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE and the Rev. Charles POLLEY officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Clay. Mrs. Nannie Crow PORTER, 58, sister of Miss Mary CROW, Providence, died at 1 a.m. Tuesday in her home in Madisonville following five years of illness. Mrs. Porter, who was born Feb. 8, 1883, in Hopkins County was the daughter of W.D. and Sarah Reams Crow. Survivors are the husband, Lawrence; three daughters, Mrs. Rudd SISK, Mrs. Nancy SCHMETZER, and Miss Sue Porter, jr., all of Madisonville, and J.C. Crow, Portales, New Mexico; and two sisters, Miss Mary Crow, Providence, and Mrs. J.F. MOUNTS, Slaughters. A daughter, Lucille Porter, died in 1926. Funeral services were conducted at 10 o'clock this morning in the S.T. HARRIS Funeral Home in Madisonville. The Rev. John Bradford Porter, nephew of Mrs. Porter, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Bedford TURNER, pastor of the Madisonville Methodist church. Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery, Madisonville. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, November 27, 1941.

R.L. PORTER, 79, retired Illinois Central Railroad engineer, died at his home in Dixon at 5 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Porter retired twelve years ago after having been with the railroad company for forty years. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ina BROWN Porter; two daughters, Mrs. H.P. SCOTT, Roscoe, Calif., and Mrs. Leland LEWIS, Hollywood, Calif.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert S. MOONEY, Dixon; one grandson; two step-granddaughters; and one brother, Charlie Porter, Stearns. The body is at Tapp Funeral Home until time for the funeral. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist church in Dixon, with the Rev. Nealey PEARCY officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery, Dixon. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, July 12, 1945.

Emilous Elmer POUNDS, 67, of Hopkins county near Dawson Springs, who formerly lived in Webster county, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Cardwell's Clinic in Providence of a heart ailment. He was a member of Providence General Baptist church. Survivors are three brothers, John M., of Louisville, J.G., Providence rural route, and Huston, of Providence. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at White Oak church, with the Rev. Charles HOWARD officiating, assisted by the Rev. Claude THRELKELD. Burial was in White Oak cemetery. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, September 8, 1949.

John POUNDS, 87, formerly of Webster county, died at 10 a.m. Monday at his home in Louisville. Surviving are two sons, Charlie and Miles Pounds of Louisville; two brothers, J.G. Pounds of the White Oak section and Houston Pounds of Providence; and two grandchildren. Funeral and burial were in Louisville Wednesday. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, September 24, 1953.

Mrs. Ivie POWELL, 57, who lived near Clay, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday in an Evansville hospital. Surviving are the husband, Lee Powell; two sons, Cecil BUCKINGHAM of Wheatcroft and Ernest Lee Buckingham of Mortons Gap; one stepson, Charlie Bob Powell of Chicago; four sisters, Mrs. Nona Buckingham of Granite City Ill., Mrs. Mamie STEVENS of Providence, Mrs. Willie KEE of West Frankfort Ill., and Mrs. Audrey LEIGHN of Akron Ohio; a half-sister, Mrs. Ora CRUISE of Mayfield; two half-brothers, Wesley Buckingham, Granite City, Ill., and Archie Buckingham, West Frankfort Ill.; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at the Union Church in Wheatcroft, with the Rev. Chester JACKSON of Madisonville officiating, assisted by his son, the Rev. Amos Jackson, also of Madisonville. Burial will be in Rock Springs Cemetery. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, April 22, 1954.

John Hulen POWELL, 78, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday at his home near White Oak. He was a member of Gum Grove church. Survivors are the wife, Anna Lee; two sons, Ruluf and Leslie Powell, Huntingburg, Ind.; four daughters, Mrs. Relus DENNY, Morganfield; Mrs. Katherine GEE, of Clay, Misses Verble and Delois Jane Powell, at home; four brothers, Henry, of Marion, Robert and Ernest, of Clay, and Dave Powell, of Lisman; and ten grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday in White Oak church, with the Rev. Nealey PEARCY of Dixon officiating. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, January 17, 1946.

Robert Morgan POWELL, 76, died Thursday night in his home on Route 2, Clay. Survivors are the wife, Maudeline; three sons, James, at home, Roland of Clay, and George of Morganfield; four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie NEWCOMB of Sturgis, Mrs. Jettie RICH, Mrs. Hattie WOODRING, and Mrs. Morris McCORMICK of Clay; and three brothers, Dave and Ernest of Clay, and Henry, of Marion. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pride Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bob WALLACE officiating. Burial was in Bordley cemetery.
