Columbus (Lafe) CHAMBERLAIN, 85, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at his home in Onton. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic
Lodge and was active in Eastern Star. Surviving are the wife, Lora; two sons, Arthur and Cecil Chamberlain, Evansville; two
daughters, Mrs. Lena DORSEY, Evansville and Mrs. Fannie FREELS, Indianapolis IN; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Onton Methodist Church with the Rev. L.I. CHANDLER officiating. Burial was in

Pfc. Arnnene S. CHANDLER, 28, colored, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chandler of Dixon, was killed in India on
Nov. 16 in an ammunition dump explosion, his family has been informed. He was one of seven American soldiers
killed, the report said, in the explosion which occurred 35 miles north of Calcutta. Pfc. Chandler had been in the
Army several months and was with the Ordnance Ammunition Company. Besides his parents, survivors are
the wife, Helen, of Chicago, Ill., two sisters, and five brothers.

Deborah Jean CHANDLER, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Chandler of Dixon, died Thursday a few hours after being born prematurely in Cardwell's clinic. Survivors besides the parents are grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom OVERBY of Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Will GROSS of Athens, Ala. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the home, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in Townsend cemetery.

Mrs. Eula TAPP CHANDLER, 79, widow of the late H.B. Chandler, died at
4 a.m. Wednesday at her home three miles north of Dixon on highway 41.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Oliver DUNCAN of Evansville, and five
sons, Clarence, Beckham, Thomas, Demmitt, and Bryan Chandler, all of
near Dixon. Funeral services are to be held at 3 o'clock this
afternoon at the home. Burial is to be in the Chandler family

Roy CHANDLER, 64, salesman for Grady Gentry Chevrolet Company in Providence, died at 6:45 a.m. Friday at his home south of
Cairo of a heart condition. His home formerly was in Webster County. Surviving are the wife, Ruth; two sisters, Miss Ora Chandler,
Henderson County and Mrs. Essa Mae VAN ZILE, Detroit, Michigan; and three brothers, Jess of Poole; Essel of Henderson; and
C.D. Chandler of Cairo. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, with the Rev. Guy
GORDON officiating, assisted by the Rev. John C. BASSETT. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Clay. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, April 10, 1958.
Mrs. Cassie CHAPMAN, 76, former Webster county resident, died at 5 p.m. Saturday at her home in Henderson following an illness of two and one-half years. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. C.S. McCULLEY of Sebree, Mrs. Lura MARSHALL and Mrs. Arthur JACKSON of Henderson; five sons, Frank, Raymond, Joe, Lloyd and H.L., of Henderson; 3 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a half-sister, Mrs. Elmer MAGNUSON of Meade, Neb. The Rev. Leslie Chapman, pastor of Providence Church, is a grandson. Funeral services were held Monday in the General Baptist Church in Henderson, with the Rev. Arvil OAKLEY and the Rev. O.B. CLARK officiating. Burial was in Fernwood cemetery, Henderson.

I.E. CHAPPELL, 47, Providence, died at 5 a.m. Sunday after being accidentally shot while squirrel hunting. Mr. Chappell, John GARDNER and his son, William Travis Gardner, had gone in Mr. Chappell's truck to a place beyond the White Oak section and had parked the truck and walked up a lane. They loaded their guns just before entering the woods. When they had gone about twenty feet into the woods, Mr. Gardner's 12-gauge shotgun accidentally discharged and struck Mr. Chappell who was walking in front of him. The charge struck him in the back and he died a few minutes later. Coroner J. Murray BLUE conducted an inquest with the jury returning a verdict of accidental death. Surviving are the wife, Ruth Virginia; mother, Mrs. Victoria Chappell, Dawson Springs; and a sister, Mrs. Raymond HOWTON, Dawson Springs. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Tapp Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. Johnie ROBISON of Madisonville officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows cemetery, Madisonville. Charles CHILDERS, 71, of Harrisburg, Ill., died at 5 a.m. Sunday while on a visit at the home of his sister, Mrs.
S.R. COLE. Mr. Childers, a native of Providence, had been a Harrisburg resident for a number of years.
Although in ill health his condition had shown improvement and death was unexpected. Survivors are a
daughter, Mrs. Byrdie RALSTON, Uma, Ill.; two sons, Carmon and Richard Childers, Harrisburg; and three
sisters, Mrs. Cole, Mrs. Ora SHELTON, and Mrs. Ocie STEVENS, Providence. A brief funeral service was held
Monday afternoon in Mrs. Cole's home, with the Rev. Albert KEMP, pastor of Victory Baptist church, officiating,
after which the body was taken to Harrisburg. Funeral services were held in Harrisburg Tuesday afternoon in
McKinley Baptist church with the pastor, the Rev. Childers, in charge. Burial was in a Harrisburg cemetery

P.M. CHILDERS, 87, retired farmer, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday in Cardwell's Clinic a short time after he was admitted. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Clarence DAUGHTERTY of Allentown, Pa., Mrs. Eula SMITH of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Charlie SHOULDERS of Madisonville, and Mrs. Paul JONES of Hanson; three sons, W.S. Childers of Providence, Dewey Childers of Princeton, and Lester Childers of Allentown, Pa.; two brothers, Joe of Providence, and Smith of Lincoln, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Sallie CATES of Madisonville; twelve grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tapp Funeral Home in Providence, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.
Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, February 18, 1954. Compiler's note: P.M. Childers' stone at Lakeview Cemetery reveals his name to be Peyton M. Childers, Aug 23, 1866-Feb 15, 1954. There are two stones next to Peyton M. Childers and the persons who copied Lakeview cemetery (Daphene Carlisle, Jane Overby, Lowell Childress, W.T. Mattingly and Geneva Mattingly, all of the WCH&G Society), have noted they believe these two stones to be for the same person. One stone says "Rachel V. Childers, May 10, 1870-May 11, 1948." The second stone says "Virginia Childers, 1870-1948". Webster County records list the marriage of a Poynter Childers to a Jennie HERROW 20 Feb 1889.
Mrs. Nellie Mae CHILDRESS, 69, died Saturday at 3:30 a.m. in the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Ethan CARAWAY, Providence, route 1, following an
illness of two years. She was a member of the Second Baptist church.
Survivors are the husband, J. T. Childress; three sons, Vertis PARKER,
Dawson Springs route 1, Randall Parker and Corbett Parker, Providence;
three daughters, Mrs. Ethan Caraway, Providence route 1, Mrs. Ollie
BAKER, Princeton route 1, and Mrs. Nyda CHINN, Centertown; twenty
grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were
held at Mrs. Caraway's home at 1 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Goebel
PHILLIPS of Evansville officiating. Burial was in the Mary Sigler
cemetery in Caldwell county. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday,

Spurlin CHILDRESS , formerly of Providence, died at 9 a.m. Sunday at his home in Princeton following a long illness. Surviving are the wife, Lena; four sons, Gerald of Cynthiana, Ind., Carlyn, near Princeton, Curtis of Belleville, Mich., and Clarence, Detroit, Mich.; three daughters, Mrs. Guestle COFFMAN of Belleville, Mich., Mrs. Bob GLOBKE and Miss Vivian Childress of Detroit; two brothers, Rich Childress of Providence and E.H. Childress of Princeton; seven sisters, Mrs. R.L. ERWIN, Mrs. R.M. TRAYLOR, and Mrs. Garland Traylor of Providence, Mrs. Oscar MITCHELL and Mrs. Lawrence HOLMES of Princeton, Mrs. Byrd GUESS of Fredonia, and Mrs. R.P. WHITTINGTON of Kuttawa, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Home in Princeton, with the Rev. H.G.M. HATLER, pastor of Princeton First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Big Hill cemetery, Providence.

Mrs. Anna Dorothy CHRISTIANSON, 86, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday at her home in Providence. She was a member of the Lutheran church in Winona, Minn. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude IDLETT, of Providence; three sons, Austin Ressett and Dan Christianson, Providence, and Lawrence Christianson, Detroit, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary TOTSBURG, of Redland, Saskatchewan, Canada, Mrs. Clara EDALIL, of Ardale, Saskatchewan, and Mrs. Louise GLEASON, Seattle, Wash. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Melton Funeral Home, with the Rev. W.M. FRISBY officiating. Burial was in Big Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Maude Rivers CHRISTLIEB, 79, died at her home in Auburn, Ind., Wednesday of last week. Mrs. Christlieb formerly lived in Webster County and was the daughter of the late William and Martha MARKS. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Blanche MOONEY and Mrs. Mable WINSTEAD, Dixon; and two brothers, Lee and Chris Marks, Dixon. Funeral and burial services were held in Auburn Saturday.
