Mrs. Fannie Belle BEABOUT, 73, died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at her home in Wheatcroft after an illness of seven weeks. Surviving are the husband, George Beabout; four sons, Sherman of Sturgis, Fred of Wheatcroft, Vernon of Clay rural route, and George Allen Beabout of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Leona OWEN of Wheatcroft and Mrs. Maggie PAGE of Sturgis; two sisters, Mrs. Henry VAILES of Wheatcroft and Mattie HILL of Providence; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Black Grove Church, with the Rev. Bob WALLACE officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth BEACH, 81, were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Church of God in Wheatcroft. The Rev. T.E. ADAMS, of Henderson, officiated, assisted by the Rev. A. L. MITCHELL, Wheatcroft. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Clay. Mrs. Beach died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday of last week following an illness of several days. Survivors are the husband, John; six daughters, Mrs. Rosa Lee PITTMAN, Miss Nellie Beach, Mrs. Sarah MONROE, Mrs. Edna REDNOUR, and Mrs. Ida Bell WILSON, of Wheatcroft, and Mrs. Lillie JACOBS, of Providence; and three sons, Leonard, of Blythesville, Ark., John and Clarence of Wheatcroft.

"Granny" BEAL is dead at 101. The beloved old lady died at 2:30 a.m. last Friday of a heart condition
resulting from a siege of pneumonia. She had rallied during the week to
lend hope to her legions of friends and relatives, but her valiant fight
for recovery lost.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pentecost Church,
the Rev. William COLLINS officiating. Burial was in the Petersburg
Cemetery beside her husband, Andrew J., who died in 1940 at the age of
88.
Survivors include five daughters -- Mrs. Arah WALKER here, with whom
she made her home, and Mrs. Leeslie SANDEFUR, Mrs. Minnie BURDON, Mrs.
Cleo GRANDERSON and Mrs. Cleone HAWKINS, all of Evansville; three sons -
- Travis Beal of Evansville, Stacy Beal of Terre Haute nd.,[sic] and Hoy
Beal of Hollywood, Calif.; 32 grandchildren, 86 great-grandchildren, 36
great-great grandchildren and two nieces.
Her children�s ages range in age from 58 to 76 and her descendants
totaled 162.
On the nearest Sunday to November 1, her birthday, the Legion Hall here
annually was filled with 150 or more relatives and well-wishers who
brought gifts and words of praise to Sebree�s oldest resident.
"Granny" was born in 1855 in Warren County. She was married in 1877 to
the late Mr. Beal in the building that now is the Springfield Funeral
Home.
As each year with its special birthday celebration would roll by,
Granny always would answer "not a bit different from last year," when
asked how she felt. And she even went out and raked leaves in the yard
for picture purposes on her 100th birthday, to prove her point.
Her 75-year-old daughter, Mrs. Walker, often said that "Mama�s in
better condition that [sic] I am." And Granny almost always did her
fair share of the housework.
But her exceptional total of years, though she gallantly rallied at
times to cheer the many friends and kin, couldn�t overcome the weakened
condition after the pneumonia. And so Granny went on to a
richly-deserved rest with Him, Whom she devoutly served on this earth.

James Noble BEAN, 74, died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in Western State
Hospital, Hopkinsville. The body was taken Wednesday to Franklin
Funeral Home in Clay, and later was moved to the home of his sister,
Mrs. Bud PRICE. Mrs. Price and several nieces and nephews are the
only survivors. Funeral services were to be held at 2 o'clock this
afternoon at Hopewell church, with the Rev. J.R. KING officiating.
Burial was to be in Hopewell cemetery.

John BECKNER, 83, died at 3 p.m. Friday at the home of a son, Leonard Beckner, near Clay, following a long illness. Surviving also are three other sons, Charles, near Marion, Cleo of St. Louis, and Clarence Beckner of Shady Grove; four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Beckner of Clay, Mrs. W.L. DEVINE, and Mrs. Leonard CASH of Evansville, and Mrs. Ercel WILLIAMS of Springfield, Ill.; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hopewell Baptist Church, of which he was a member, with the Rev. E.G. SISK of Dixon and the Rev. Raymond HAZEL of Wheatcroft officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Clay.

Mrs. Anna BELL of Sebree, wife of J.E. Bell, assistant cashier of the Sebree Deposit Bank, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday in an Evansville hospital after a week's illness. Survivors are the husband; two brothers, Fred KORB, Madisonville, and John Korb, Slaughters; and a sister, Mrs. E.W. FENSKE, Slaughters. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Sebree Methodist church of which she was a member, with the pastor, the Rev. Paul G. LOGSDON officiating. Burial was in Slaughters cemetery.

Joe BELL, 88, died Friday at his home in Dalton. Surviving are the wife, the former Mrs. Maud CURTRIGHT; two sons, Guy and Thurman, of Lyon county; a daughter, Mrs. Jake MYERS of Princeton; 28 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a sister. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Methodist Church in Lyon county, of which he was a member. The pastor officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Martha Jane BELL, 96, died at 10 a.m. Monday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Beulah COWAN, in Wheatcroft where she had lived for the past 15 years. Mrs. Bell was a native of Lyon county. Surviving besides Mrs. Cowan are a son, J.L. Bell, Garner, Ark.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Springs Church, near Wheatcroft, with the Rev. E.G. SISK officiating. Burial was in Rock Springs cemetery.

A.M. (Mander) BELOW, 71, farmer whose home was near Providence, died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday in an Evansville hospital after a brief illness. Survivors are six sons, Lloyd, of Lisman, Norman, Forrest, Lynn, Carson, and A.M. Below, jr., of Indianapolis, Ind.; three daughters, Mrs. Beckham CHANDLER, Dixon, Mrs. Denver PEMBERTON, of Clay, and Mrs. Chester ROSS, Indianapolis; a brother, James Below, Lisman; a sister, Mrs. Lloyd HUNT, Morganfield; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Frederick's Chapel, near Lisman, with the Rev. W.M. FRISBY officiating. Burial was in Lisman cemetery. C.E. BELT, 64, died at his home in Clay Friday morning at 12:30 following an illness of two months. Surviving are one son,
Hubert Belt of Clay; one daughter, Miss Thelma Belt of Clay; two brothers, Mark Belt of Clay and S.P. Belt of Marion; and two
grandchildren. Mt. Belt moved to Clay from Livingston county twenty-two years ago. He was a member of the Cisco Chapel
General Baptist church in Crittenden county. Funeral services were conducted at the General Baptist church in Clay at 2:30Sunday afternoon by the Rev. E.Y. LASLIE of Mt. Vernon, Ind. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Clay.

Leslie Eugene BELT, 24, Portland, Ore., son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Belt, of Providence, was killed at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday in an automobile accident near Oregon City. He was a veteran of World War II, having spent four and a half years in the navy. Surviving besides the parents, are the wife, Joyce, and son, Craig Edgar, of Portland; a brother, J.C. Belt, Evansville; and a sister, Betty Joyce Belt, Providence. The body will arrive Saturday morning at Tapp Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have not been made, but it is expected that military rites will be conducted by members of American Legion and VFW posts.

The next issue of the paper gave these additional details: "Funeral services for Leslie Eugene Belt, 24, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Tapp Funeral Home in Providence. The Rev. W.T. CRUMBAKER, Madisonville, officiated. The body was returned to Oregon City, Ore., for burial."
Mrs. Loretta MITCHELL BELT, 17, formerly of Providence, was killed instantly Tuesday at 8 p.m. in an
automobile crash in Phoenix. Ariz., according to information received by relatives. She and her husband,
Roy Belt, went to Phoenix several months ago because of his health. He is quite ill in a hospital there.
Mrs. Belt was a daughter of the late Taylor Mitchell who died in February 1943. She was a member of Green
Grove Baptist church. Survivors besides the husband are her mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs.
R.V. HAZELIP, Evansville; brother, Charles Mitchell; grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. J.T. Mitchell and Mr.
and Mrs. Leamon EDWARDS, Providence; and great-grandmother, Mrs. Fannie WEBSTER,
Providence. The body was to be sent here following an inquest in Phoenix today and will be taken to
Tapp Funeral Home on arrival some time during the weekend. Funeral arrangements will be made
later. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.

week's paper: Funeral services for Mrs. Roy Belt, 17, the former Loretta Mitchell, were held Tuesday at
2 p.m. in General Baptist church in Providence, with the Rev. Wallace DORRIS, pastor of Evansville
Grace church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. C.W. DUFFER. Pallbearers were C.C. PHELPS,
J.W. STUART, Carlos OAKLEY, Finis EDWARDS, Rosco WINSTEAD, and Charles WRITTENHOUSE.
Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Mrs. Belt was killed on Tuesday of last week in Phoenix, Ariz., when the
automobile in which she was riding was struck by another car at an intersection. She was thrown out and
suffered a compound fracture of the skull. The body arrived in Providence Monday and remained at Tapp

Roy BELT, 29, died Saturday morning in Phoenix, Ariz., where he went several months ago because of ill health. His wife, Loretta MITCHELL Belt, who accompanied him to Phoenix, was killed in an automobile accident there on Nov. 27. Survivors are a daughter, Norma Ray; his mother, Mrs. Betty Belt, Providence; two brothers, J.W. Belt, who is in the army in Europe, and Rudy Carl, Providence; three sisters, Mrs. Herman Mitchell, Mrs. Malcolm HUNTER, and Ruth Elizabeth Belt, Providence. The body arrived in Providence Wednesday morning and is at the home of his mother of Rosemont avenue. Funeral services will be conducted in Victory Baptist church at 2:30 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Albert KEMP, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Maurice DAVIS, Owensboro, officiating. Pallbearers will be Rice HUDSON, Thomas Hudson, L.B. JOHNSON, Floyd MYERS, Alvie HOPPER, and Maurice HARVEY. Flower bearers will be Pauline WILSON, Jeweldean POOLE, Fletta Mae MYERS, Katherine HERRON, Irene Myers, and Isabel WILLIAMS. Burial will be in Lakeview cemetery.

Miss Harriett BENJAMIN, sister of J.B. Benjamin of Providence, died Wednesday night of last week in Rome, Ga., as result of a stroke suffered two weeks earlier. The brother is the only immediate survivor. Funeral services were held Friday in the First Presbyterian Church in Rome, with burial there. A nephew, Lucian Benjamin and Mrs. Benjamin, went to Rome Thursday following her death and returned home Monday. They were joined there by his brother, Curtis Benjamin, of New York.

John B. BENJAMIN, 94, oldest Providence business man, died at 5 p.m. Tuesday at his home on Benjamin Terrace where he lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Benjamin. Mr. Benjamin, who was born May 12, 1861, in Rome, Georgia, came to Providence in 1886 and started his hardware business. He was married on December 27,1888, to Miss Effie HEAD, member of one of the community's early families, who died April 23, 1947. Except for a period of two years following their marriage when they lived in Sturgis, Mr. Benjamin was in business here continuously from 1886 until his death. The business has been operated for a number of years as J.B. Benjamin and Son, with Lucien Benjamin as manager, but Mr. Benjamin continued to go to the store daily until seven weeks ago when increasing weakness caused by his advanced age forced confinement to his home. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was an elder, and actively interested in church affairs. Surviving are three sons, Kerney, of Phoenix, Ariz., Curtis of New York, and Lucien of Providence; two daughters, Mrs. Louis JONES, Providence, and Mrs. Thomas MATLACK, Lynn, Mass.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A son, Grady Benjamin, father of Dr. John L. Benjamin of Providence, died a number of years ago. The body is at the home. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 this afternoon at First Presbyterian Church, with Howard LAWSON of Louisville, minister of the church, officiating. Burial will be in Big Hill cemetery.

Miss Kate BENJAMIN, 94, sister of J.B. Benjamin of Providence, died Tuesday, December 22, in her home in Rome, Georgia. Besides the brother she is survived by a sister, Miss Harriet Benjamin, of Rome. Funeral services were held Thursday in First Presbyterian Church in Rome and burial was in Myrtle Hill cemetery there.

Mrs. Evie BENNETT, widow of the late Rev. A.J. Bennett, at one time pastor of the Methodist Church in Sebree, died Monday morning in the home of a daughter, Mrs. W.M. EARL in Toledo, Ohio. Other survivors are another daughter, Mrs. Pauline THOMSON of Goshen, Ohio; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mrs. E.H. FLEMING of Sassafras Grove section, and Mrs. Arthur ASHBY of Onton. The body was returned to Springfield Funeral Home in Sebree. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Sassafras Grove church, and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Bourland BENTLEY, 54, died suddenly at 9:30 p.m. Monday at his home on North Broadway following a heart attack. Mr. Bentley, who operated a grocery store, was a member of Victory Baptist Church. He was married September 24, 1917 to the former Emma Lee COLE, who died four months ago, on December 27. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. J. Murray BLUE, Providence; three sisters, Mrs. Jessie SCHMIDT of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Lillie RAKESTRAW of Providence, and Mrs. Maud POLLEY of Dixon; and two brothers, Walter of Providence and Chester Bentley of Dixon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Baptist church, with the Rev. W.W. JOHNSON officiating, assisted by the Rev. Truett MILLER. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Mrs. Emma Lee BENTLEY, 53, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday at her home on North Broadway, following several months' illness. She was married September 24, 1917 to William Bourland Bentley, who survives. She is a member of Victory Baptist Church. Surviving besides the husband are a daughter, Mrs. J. Murray BLUE, Providence; her mother, Mrs. Nemma COLE, Providence; two sisters, Mrs. Frank BROWN and Mrs. Clarence COFFMAN, Providence; and two brothers, Labe Cole of Providence and Kerney Cole of Frankfort. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Victory Baptist Church, with the Rev. W.W. JOHNSON officiating, assisted by the Rev. Truett MILLER. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery.

Deborah Ann BENTON, 2, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman N. Benton of Lexington, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday of last week while visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R.H. VAUGHN and Uel G. Vaughn in Clay. Surviving are the parents; a sister, Georgia Kay; grandfather, Uel G. Vaughn; great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Vaughn; and great-grandmother, Mrs. L.V. STONE of Henderson. The body was taken to Lexington Thursday and funeral services were held there at 2 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. H.C. OGLES officiating. Burial was in a Lexington cemetery.

WALLACE, Mrs. Euel FREEMAN, Mrs. George NORVILL, Mrs. Frank Norvill, and Mrs. Erlsie SIGLER, Providence, and Mrs. Burnia GRAY, Detroit, Mich.; and four brothers, Everett, Elbert, Denver, and Lester Kelley, Providence. Funeral services were conducted in the General Baptist church Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. C.W. DUFFER officiating. Burial was in White Oak cemetery. Mrs. Amelia BERRY, 94, former Webster county resident and widow of the late Robert Berry, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the home of a son, Clyde Berry, of Corydon. Survivors besides the son include another son, Fines B. Berry of Sebree; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Poole Baptist church, with the Rev. E.G. SISK and the Rev. J.E. SAMPLES officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole.

Robert A. BERRY, 71, of Henderson, formerly of Providence, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday in Methodist Hospital in Henderson. He was
admitted to the hospital the night of April 28 after suffering head injuries at the Mecca Bar in Henderson, according to officers. A short
time before Berry's death, Leroy ROBBINS, 22, Henderson, was arrested on a warrant charging assault and battery, filed by Mrs.
Berry. A report was to be made today on an autopsy performed to determine the cause of death. Berry, a Providence resident formany years, was a retired district officer of the United Mine Workers of America. Surviving are the wife, Frances; a daughter, Mrs.
William F. McDANIEL, Evansville; two sons, Charles of Gary IN; and Dale of Henderson County; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Louise
SLAUGHTERS of Germany and Mrs. Clara SUTTON, Henderson County; a stepson, Henry D. KLOKE, Henderson; and five
grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moss Audubon in Henderson, with the Rev. Donald WEAVER and
the Rev. Lyman Smith ALLEN officiating. Burial was in Fairmont Cemetery. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, May 12, 1955.
Johnny BETHEL, 74, died at 7 p.m. Sunday at his home near Dixon. Nephews and nieces are the only survivors. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the General Baptist church in Poole, with the Rev. W.W. OAKLEY officiating. Burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Springfield Funeral Home in Sebree, with the Rev. Roy RIDENOUR, pastor of Sebree General Baptist church, officiating. Burial was in Springdale cemetery, Sebree.

Mrs. Alma Ruth BILL, 51, of Evansville, formerly of Clay, died Wednesday morning of last week in the home of her sister, Mrs. Cleo BECKNER and Mr. Beckner, in Sebree, following several weeks' illness. Surviving are the husband, Thomas Bill; father, Robert Lee HERRON, Wheatcroft; sister, Mrs. Beckner, of Sebree; and a brother, George Herron, of Clay. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Franklin and Hunt Funeral Home in Clay, with the Rev. WATTS, of Sebree, officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Clay.

Mrs. Nora BIRDWELL, 72, of Evansville, formerly of Providence, died Sunday, May 20, in an Evansville hospital following an operation. She was a daughter of the late J.H. and Susan MAY of Providence. Survivors are two sons, Bill of Evansville and Robert of Clay; a daughter, Mrs. Ida BASIL, Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Ovella DRISCOLL and Mrs. Fannie REED of Chicago; and two brothers, Gip May, Evansville and Walter May, Providence. Funeral services were held in Evansville and burial was in Rock Springs Cemetery Wednesday of last week. Providence Journal-Enterprise, Thursday, May 31, 1951.
Mrs. Sallie BARNHILL BISHOP, 79, died at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar M. YOUNG, as the result of a heart attack
which she suffered an hour earlier. Mrs. Bishop had suffered heart
attacks during the past several months, but for some time prior to her
death had been active. On Tuesday afternoon she had walked about the
neighborhood. Born in Hopkins county near Providence on November 14,
1862, the daughter of the late John D. and Nancy F. Barnhill, she was
married in 1890 to Robert F. Bishop. They lived in Union county,
returning here in 1919, and she had made her home here since that
time. Mr. Bishop's death occurrred in August, 1938. Mrs. Bishop was
a member of the First Baptist church. She was a woman of many fine
traits of character. Her interests were centered chiefly in her home,
her relatives, her friends, and her church. The many friends who
called to see her since she returned here from a stay in
Winston-Salem, N.C. four months ago brought her much pleasure.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Edgar M. Young of Providence and
Mrs. L.S. TOMASSON of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son, John B. Bishop of
Morganfield; five grandchildren; a brother, D.L. Barnhill of
Providence; and a sister Mrs. John SLATON of Hemet, Calif. Funeral
services were to be conducted at 3 o'clock this afternoon at the home
of Mrs. Young, with the Rev. Benjamin CONAWAY officiating.
Pallbearers were to be nephews and flower bearers, nieces. Burial was
to be in Pythian Ridge cemetery, Sturgis.
