The McMillian family of Pendleton County is believed to have originated from Pennsylvania. The hypothesis compiled by researchers of our area is that Thomas McMillian of York County, Pennsylvania was the ancestor of one line of McMillians in Pendleton County. If the others are related we haven't made the connection. Thomas McMillian is presumed to have come to Kentucky with three sons, Samuel, Thomas and William. According to "Collins History of Kentucky", Samuel was deeded 7,000 acres in Pendleton County from the James Moody Survey on Crooked Creek and Fork Lick Creek branches of the Main Licking River, before 1810. His family was one of the first to settle west of Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky. Samuel married Easter____ and had the following children: William, Marshall T., Mary Broadwell, John, Andrew F., Kennedy, Samuel C. and James McMillian.

Thomas McMillian, II died in Jefferson County, Kentucky.

William McMillian died in the early 1800's. He married Rachel ___ of Pennsylvania. She died after 1850. Their children were:

1. Robert McMillian, born ___, died 1814. He married Phoebe ____. Phoebe married second in 1815 to Ambrose Evans who was also in Pendleton County. Robert & Pheobe had five children:
1. James McMillian, married Martha Cooper
2. Jane McMillian, married Henry Mason
3. Sarah McMillian, married Thomas Hawkins
4. Lydia McMillian, married James Cooper
5. Joseph McMillian, married Nancy Hilor

2. Peggy McMillian, married David Cooper, born 1774, PA

4. Hugh McMillian, of Dearborn County, Indiana

5. William McMillian

6. Elizabeth McMillian, married Joseph Gilmore

7. Eleanor McMillian, married Matthew Alexander

8. Easter McMillian, married William Alexander

Note: Peggy McMillian's husband, David Cooper and James McMillian's wife, Martha Cooper were children of James and Mary Cooper, who came to Kentucky from Pennsylvania in 1785. James Cooper was killed by the Indians.
