Joseph Carter
Recorded in Oldham County, Kentucky, Will Book 4
I Joseph Carter of the County of Oldham and State of Kentucky do
hereby
make my last will and testament in manner and form following that
is to say
1st I desire that Mary my wife shall have one hundred dollars in
cash and
cow and calf in addition to the agreement entered into by Mary
Oglesby and
said Joseph Carter on the 30th October 1843, and a turkey carpet
and two
glass candlesticks and the pictures and all the silver plate.
2nd I give to my son Addison the Hancock Taylor tract of land per
deed
containing 205 acres with an extension of ten rods in the
beginning line
running from Floyd fork to the line between me and Stone the ten
rods not
to have any effect on the Watkins farm during Mary's natural life
and to
have possession of the Oglesby tract of land and one bed and
stead, bedding
and cow and calf.
And to W. T. Carter and S. O. Carter and M. N. Carter I give all
my Blacks
to be divided in manner and form following. That is to say they
are to be
divided by three disinterested men appointed by the Oldham County
Court, M.
N. Carter to have first choice, S. O. Carter to have second
choice, W. T.
Carter to have third choice, all the other property to be sold to
the
highest bidder to be divided so as to make our portions equal in
the whole
estate.
And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint...Stephen O. Carter
and
Addison Carter executors of this my last will and testament
hereby revoking
all other or former wills or testaments made by me heretofore --
in witness
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this
fifth day of
December in the year 1855.

A paper purporting to be the last will and testament of Joseph
Carter dec'd
was produced in court and proved to be such by the two
subscribing
witnesses having sworn to the same and ordered to be recorded,
which is
accordingly done.

NOTE: Mary Oglesby was Joseph Carter's second wife. His first
wife, the
mother of the Carter sons, was Martha (Patsey) Oglesby, daughter
of William
Oglesby. Children of Joseph and Martha Oglesby Carter were
Stephen Oglesby,
William Tipton, Addison, and Meredith N. Beverly Park Peavler
